The greatest actor-turned-cobbler of all time!
Is that true?
Some actors aren't paid that much
😂
Actor turned cobbler turned actor again. Then maybe dress making and cobbling?
@@funkogoodguy2613 Following , Day-Lewis took a leave of absence from acting by going into "semi-retirement" and returning to his old passion of wood-working. He moved to Florence, Italy, where he became intrigued by the craft of shoe-making. He apprenticed as a shoe-maker with Stefano Bemer. For a time, his exact whereabouts and actions were not made publicly known.
He was absolutely unbelievable in "There will Be Blood"
Agree! That movie is fantastic. I love it and his acting in it is unbeliveable
like in any movies he played in!he is an absolute beast! hope we could see his comic side too
@@benjaminyuksel7824 -- I mean for most actors, they want to be _believable!_ At least within the context of the movie.
Maybe rephrase?
Where you been bro!!!
@@user-Old_BenYour context is off cause they CLEARLY mean he is so good they can't believe someone can act that GREAT.... unbelievable has many forms of context if you are void of a narrow mind... Let's see if you get the ACTUAL context of THAT....
he was so terrifyingly cruel...I couldn't stop watching. incredible performance
Daniel is unbelievable. I’ve never seen anyone embody a role so well. He looks completely different in ever single role he plays and that’s with little to no prosthetics or crazy makeup.
I would say he's believable.
Id say he’s almost on par with Gary Oldman, almost.
His humility is what makes him great!
TBE
That’s beyond humility. Hes like oblivious to how talented he is.
Lisan Al-Gaib
Great"? No.. Mostlly favored, connected, free of contraversy, and bankable.
Humility is sticking to the script. If not, join Will Smith as an usher.
Yeah ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Imagine someone like Leonardo DiCaprio being humbled and nervous talking to someone else. That the respect Daniel Day-Lewis has from his peers
I mean he was also very young
@@nomecognome8737 No, that is the wrong take on this- the very thing I was going to write- Leo was one of the very biggest stars in the world at this point.
The OP was correct- Leo's obvious deference to DDL says A LOT about Hollywood's respect for him.
And then they cast Cameron Diaz 😂🤦🏻♀️
@@GaryMillyzwho are you to say what is the wrong take and who is “correct” ? He said he was ALSO very young. There is room in the world for differing thoughts and viewpoints.
Exactly. Well said. Thank you for that comment. ❤
Making shoes takes a huge amount of skill. These people are passionate about it.
Hey, heard Trump is good with his hands.
There’s been one hell of a lot of instances where JB got hands-on. He had a thing for smelling and touching cute young girls hair. Plus he was almost kicked out of law school for plagiarism. Then he plagiarized several major political speeches. At least Trump kept it behind closed doors and never did this kind of thing with any female that objected. Of course they were sickened /traumatized by it, but he paid them upfront for services soon to be performed. No teenage girl want JB to touch her and smell her hair! The weirdest thing about this is I’m a Biden supporter. ✌🏼🇺🇸✌🏼🇺🇸
@@spenceroman242 So?
Isn’t it funny how in life the most humble is almost always the best at what they do?
Maybe because, why would you try to keep getting better if you already thought you are the best?
It’s completely expected… as is the least humble people being terrible at their job - a phenomenon known as Dunning-Kruger Syndrome. The dumber you are, the more you overestimate your abilities.
Truly smart people know how little they know, and always seek to know more.
Still surprised he didn't get the Oscar for this role.
The committee doesn’t know their ass from a hole in the ground.
How in the world could they possibly know which roles are truly Oscar worthy and not a popularity contest?
Should have received the Oscar - his performance was excellent!!
DDL as Bill the Butcher was one of the best jobs acting I have ever seen. What an awesome character!
No kidding right
Yea he lost to Adrian Brody for the Pianist I think…BS
Daniel Day Lewis is maybe the best actor Ever. His roles always let me speechless, and most likely is because of him. He is so good.
Imagine the greatest actor of his generation being worried about doing a good job for his idol. I can not imagine anyone else playing that role.❤
It’s called authentic humility. The dude wasn’t looking for a payday and had such respect for Marty as a director he wasn’t sure
DiCaprio isnt even close to the gr8est of his gen". the dude is a glorified Zac Efron
@@Iko_onthedl I was talking about Daniel Day Lewis being worried about disappointing Scorsese not Leo. Listen again to the story.
@@Iko_onthedl that’s a bad take. Who is the top of his generation then
@@lynnette9046 okey I didn’t watch all of it cuz I got caught in the comments and had to defend Cinema. But DDL still is far from the best of his gen either way
Daniel has murdered every role he has acted in he is a straight up killer❤❤❤❤
Savage at his Craft
I bet those shoes are the best in the world. Dude just does everything to the fullest.
My favorite movie of all time is The Last of the Mohicans and its because of Daniel Day Lewis and his beautiful performance. I could watch it a hundred times and not get bored ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Nice choice! Awesome movie. Killer theme music, too.
Incredible soundtrack!
Hated that movie. Full of cliches and stereotypes. I doubt he rates it either
If you ever want to break your mind go watch Last of the Mohicans from I think it's 1939 it's a silent picture very very good
I still watch it and make everyone I can, watch it with me
Day Lewis is the greatest actor of all time. He's in another REALM.
@@djgarvey123 Okay, I'll bite. Tell me who's better?
DDL is the greatest actor of all time! Only actor with 3 Oscar's in a leading role! No discussion anymore!
@@SaintVic2287 Thank you kind Sir.
@@wanmangeng5957 I think Anthony Hopkins is masterful. De Niro, Hanks and Seymour Hoffman are all tremendous talents. It's difficult to put anyone in particular at no.1 spot.
@@wanmangeng5957 Enough other actors/actresses who are better. Ddl is great though. No need to name others, cause anyone who likes movies/theater >> knows there are plenty .
But to name a few >> Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, Anthony Hopkins, Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Joaquin Phoenix, Tom Hanks , Christoph Waltz, Samuel L Jackson, Denzel Washington, Meryl streep, Julia Roberts, Charlize Theron, Margot Robbie etc etc......😏
DDL could never disappoint the audience.
Maybe the greatest actor of all time. I still can’t get over his performance in Lincoln. A tribute to Abe.
It couldn’t have been better.
I realize how hard acting is when I see reenactors on crime or historical TV shows. These people auditioned and got the part, suggesting they were the best option. Light years from the talent level of these gentlemen. No shade, but impossible not to notice. A true artistic endeavor, not just anyone can pull off. Props.
You underestimate and ignore the value of writers. Those actors who reenact are doing a specific job, and the writing is not original or even expected to be good. It’s functional. The reason actors like DiCaprio and Day-Lewis get to BE good is because they get to work with good writers.
When people ask me who do I think is the greatest actor ever, I always say Daniel Day Lewis. Too many people have no idea who he is, which is incredible to me, the man has 3 Oscars and could have had many more! I was in 8th grade when I saw The Last of the Mohicans, I was a fan of him ever since!
When we would be leaving a bar and someone was staying behind, we would say just stay alive, I will find you!
He isn't better than Brando
@@georgestamatakis697 He's way, way better than Brando. DDL's range is incomparable to Brando's
@georgestamatakis697 I love Brando but Brandos last ten years were nothing less than horrific..He just didn't care at that point and it showed and a similar thing is happening with DeNiro and Pacino and even Morgan Freeman lately where they just appear in any low rent rubbish and doing nothing but tarnishing their early brilliant careers which is something I don't see Daniel Day Lewis ever doing
One of the reasons people ignore him is, he is so dawn good you often won't notice it's the same actor. I saw a few movies from him in a row (some Netflix collection) with a friend and he wasn't recognizing the man...
I see Daniel talking exactly like he does in his movies such a great movie great actor
Take that lesson folks. Even the greatest of their craft can be filled with doubt. Don’t let that stop you
Incredible performance from one the outstanding actors of any generation! 👏
The Last of the Mohicans is one of my favorite movies. If you haven't seen, it's a memorable movie. Even has an awesome chase scene.
One of my very favorites too.
Ilove❤❤❤❤Last of the Mohicans!
One of the very best movies ever made, but one of the world's best actors. That ALSO goes for Wes Studio 💯! Buth Daniel & Wes were perfection!
💯
Hands down one of THE BEST SCORES to a movie!!
Daniel day-lewis, the greatest actor I have ever seen!
Bill the Butcher, and Daniel Plainview are absolutely amazing characters, thanks to Daniel.
Also his character in' my left foot'
His take on Lincoln was absolutely amazing as well

Christian Bale is a VERY close second.
Maybe 3rd to Pacino and deniro
@@jimmyjameson8705 DeNiro is the same guy in every movie with the same mannerisms. The movie casino, Pesci at least changed his accent DeNiro never even tried to
Daniel doesn't just act he's a method actor he becomes the role.
He employs Method ideology, but there is no such specific definition, concept, form, or technique that actually exists for ‘The Method’. Calling him a method actor is almost insulting in that sense. He doesn’t follow a specific route and style, he uses his own methodology to give rise to his creative feeling and to embody it. Yet, as he’s said before, directly, theatre and film are highly collaborative. His conception likely changes when engaging with other talent. That process is literally why shows are called ‘plays’. Because they form from a type of imaginative playing.
@@AveryMMartindamn , that’s an interesting and great analogy of plays and acting, hadn’t really considered that angle😊
@@AveryMMartin When actors refer to "The Method" we're usually referring to the Stanislavski method of acting. Some actors will use the term "The Method" to refer to the technique originated by Lee Strasberg with the Group Theater, but a lot of Strasberg's methodology is rooted in Stanislavski's teachings; so there are, in fact, specific concepts in reference to "The Method." I agree with you that it's not really accurate to call Daniel Day-Lewis a method actor in the academic sense, but the colloquial layperson's modern use of the phrase "method actor" is actually pretty accurate in that people use it to refer to an actor who stays in character even when the camera stops rolling/they exit the stage. The guy convinced the crew of "My Left Foot" to feed him and carry him around just because his character only had the use of his left foot.
Daniel, out of this world!
The single greatest actor ever.
This hit the cinemas again recently and it was a reminder that among several impressive performances, DDL’s performance was simply Oscar worthy. He was robbed that year!
In the name of the father my fave Daniel movie
Pity half of it wasn't true 😒
Good movie for sure

Daniel was insanely good in that role
Love Daniel Day Lewis ❤ He has made soooo many great movies. Love them all
Goat actor. There are none better imo.
Fantastic video. I always appreciate being educated on such topics as a man.

Great film. Would not have been the same
Sick actor. One of the best to do it.
Daniel Day Lewis is a legend
Great performances by Daniel & Leo. I could feel the raw death.
Daniel Day Lewis is so down to earth. Love that guy
Mean Streets is criminally underrated. Johnny Boy is De Niro’s best role imo. So it doesn’t surprise me that’s the film that inspired the world’s greatest living actor, DDL, to become an actor.
Every single role he plays, it’s impossible to think of any other actor that could of played that role,
One of the best movie characters of all time.
Watch DDL in My Left Foot. Brilliant actor
Daniel day lewis is one of the best of the best in his craft
Daniel is on another level
Apparently when he shot last of the Mohicans he totally lived his character 24/7 in dress in the food he ate where he lived
And that was why his performance in that movie deserved an Oscar!!!!!
Daniel Day-Lewis is so underrated and honestly it The Last of the Mohicans was an incredible film and he was perfect in it😊😊😊😊

The restaurant scene in my left foot is one of the finest performances I've ever seen.
Daniel Day Lewis completely stole the whole movie from d'caprio and everyone else.
No one came close to him
The man turned around and gave an Oscar worthy performance in the movie
He is incredible in every movie that I have seen.
What a thoughtful individual
“Shall we walk?” And they walk.
“Shall we sit?” And they sit.
Daniel Day-Lewis is the kind of person who when he speaks, you do.
When I listen to him talk. It reminds me of the character from bonfire of the vanities, the shallowness. It's overwhelming, but what's worse. Are the giggles and laughter at his well if you don't know?

Great actor. Great film. The very end scene in the cemetery breaks me up.
What a story.
What a story Mark
And then he played one of iconic character ever
“He’s a cobbler”
And everyone died laughing.
???
Exactly, what funny about it? People have lost humility so much... I blame the out of control capitalism,.. people care only about status and money.
Bunch of idiots
Exactly my thoughts, I thought it was canned laughter at first. It wasn't a joke, it was an interesting story... nothing funny.
It was the juxtaposition of going from a world famous actor to being a random, little known cobbler in italy. They're two jobs that couldn't have any LESS to do with each other, making it funny that he'd chose it given his prior experience.
@@CreepyConnorthe laughs were over the top and sounded like they were mocking it and/ or not believing him. Its nothing to get in a frump about.
