Eddie Murphy is the greatest of all-time. I was lucky to be raised in the 80’s by absolute comedic geniuses and he was tops. He made my dad and I cry from laughing so hard while he was dying of cancer when I was a teen. Thank you for the great memories, Eddie! It’s so interesting looking at this from today’s perspective. When Johnny asks what he spends his money on and makes suggestions you can see Eddie calls out Johnny for perceiving him as a stereotypical simple black male who likes shiny objects, even the using caricature accent that racist films used to give black people, all to drive home the point to Johnny. But he was smooth with it and had it flow through the conversation without much notice of the audience, all while being funny the whole time. Some people just have that kind of charisma
