George Jackson Churchward 4-4-0
3440 / 3717 City of Truro
Built in 1903 at Swindon and now part of the National Collection, the locomotive is currently on static display at STEAM - Museum of the Great Western Railway in Swindon. On 9th May 1904, the locomotive was 'recorded' travelling at 100mph, hauling the 'Ocean Mails" special from Plymouth to London Paddington.
Footage dates back to 2005 at the Llangollen Railway's GWR Gala, 2007 at the East Lancashire Railway's 20th Anniversary Gala, 2009 at the Betton Grange's Steel, Steam & Stars II Gala, 2010 at Didcot Railway Centre and Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway celebrating 175 years of the GWR and 2012 at Railfest at the National Railway Museum in York.

Defiantly my most favorite British engine next to the Stirling Single, very nice video, thanks👍
Had the pleasure of being [one] of the drivers of City Of Truro in 2010 - she will never run away due to the stress cracks in her frames due to oscillation and boiler repairs. The NRM have made the decision at lest for now that it would be best she service as a static.
The locomotive has not had a full General Overhaul since leaving Swindon Works in 1965, there comes a time when you are on borrowed time and poor Truro has had that fate.
One of my favorite famous steam engines. Sadly, she'll never be overhauled again.
It'll

A real thorough bred with style.
I've got the 00 gauge Bachmann model of City of Truro with the Indian Red Frames, and numbered 3440. I hope, when she runs again, she will be repainted into Mid-chrome Green. That is the livery which draws a somewhat bigger crowd.
the fisrt clip of it running made me think 2020 was not so bad
If only wish if City of Truro was return to serviced.
"He's to famous to even notice us"
So what's her condition now? No longer running or in service?
On static display at STEAM Museum of the Great Western Railway in Swindon
