    Some things to note when using a salt block. 1. A hot salt block imparts almost no salt to the meat, just a terrific sear. You will still need to salt your meat as usual. 2. Using the block cold to serve anything WILL impart salt flavor to the food. 3. It will hold that heat for 3-5 hours. So remove the food from it soon as it's done or it will continue cooking. 4. Clean up it easy, using only a scrub brush and a little water. Maybe a scraper if really burnt on. No soap needed at all.

    I've been researching this after getting one as a gift. Results are all over the place, with some people experiencing good salt transfer and some saying they didn't get any salt transfer. And while I know you're getting lots of criticism for it but it seems like those who carved their steak on the block got more salt and those who took it right off the block didn't get much. One guy put oil on his steaks before putting them on the block so I'm sure that's why he didn't get any salt flavor. I've been watching videos for most of the morning on this thing and I'm more confused now than I was when I started, lol!

    • @BaumGrillinzBBQ
      @BaumGrillinzBBQ  3 роки тому +4

      lol! It can be very confusing! I’ve experienced that the more moisture the food has the more salt flavor it pulls from the block. 👍 give it a try and see what happens!

The company I got mine from puts almost no information on the box, so finding your video was great! I see you used the holding stand. • @billw5823
      @billw5823 5 років тому +1

      Once you use the block a few times, it isn't as much of an issue to bring up the temperature slowly. My first few times, I was very careful to start at low, then medium, then high. However after having several of these, once you cook on them a few times, you can start at medium and let it warm for a few minutes and then go to high.

    +Baum Grillin'z the salt block seems like it would work well with a gas grill. What's your opinion? Also, how thick is the block and approximately long does it take for the block to cool off to a point where it can be picked up with a bare hand after it's been taken off the grill?

    • @kevinpotts123
      @kevinpotts123 6 років тому +4

      RedondoBeach2 definitely let that thing cool down all the way before trying to clean it because if you don't it will definitely fracture, which no one wants. When you clean it after its cool, use only water and a scrubby sponge, never use soap.

    Does the block impart any or enough salt flavor?

    • @BaumGrillinzBBQ
      @BaumGrillinzBBQ  4 роки тому +1

      Oh yes very much so! The salt block uses the moisture in the food to impart flavor. So a steak will really absorb the salt flavor! If you do try it and find that it’s too salty you can put down a thin base layer of oil to reduce the salt flavor a bit. Hope that helps! Enjoy!

    Can this be done on a regular stove?

    • @BaumGrillinzBBQ
      @BaumGrillinzBBQ  5 років тому

      Yes it can! Make sure you do not heat it too fast. Place it in a cold oven and turn heat up to 250. Once you hit that temperature remove from oven for 30 minutes. Then return to oven and set temperature to 400. Once you reach 400 pull out of oven and place on a heatproof surface. You are now ready to cook! Enjoy and thank you for watching!

    can you use other stone for cooking ?

    • @BaumGrillinzBBQ
      @BaumGrillinzBBQ  5 років тому

      Some people do cook on stones. But you have to be very careful as some types of stones will explode (air pockets inside rock make them burst) make sure you do research prior to cooking on any stone.

    How do you clean it?

    • @BaumGrillinzBBQ
      @BaumGrillinzBBQ  5 років тому

      Moisten the salt block with a damp sponge (do not use soap). Scrub the block with a soft brush or green scouring pad and wipe clean with a sponge. Try to keep the block as dry as possible - the less water the better. Repeat until the block is free of any cooked on food! Hope this helps!

    Is that salt block reusable? Does it ... melt... with time?

    • @BaumGrillinzBBQ
      @BaumGrillinzBBQ  4 роки тому

      It will last you a very long time if you take good care of it! Many many cooks can be done with one. It will get smaller over time as you cook because the salt will dissolve....

    Is there really a huge difference using a salt block vs just adding salt at the end?

    • @BaumGrillinzBBQ
      @BaumGrillinzBBQ  5 років тому

      I believe so.The salt block really gives it a good flavor. I don’t know how to explain it. I suggest you give it a try and see for yourself! They sell smaller blocks so you can try it without spending too much.

      Absolutely! Sizzling hot only. Cooled down steak is a far less enjoyable experience.

    Why didn't you use your house oven at different temperatures and to bring it up to 500 degrees in stages. It's easier than doing on the grill. No cracking the salt block.
