KTM 250 was close enough to the 500 I must say I'm quite surprised and really questioning the value of so much raw power on the dirt. Power's great, but if you can't connect it to the ground you're wasting it and just spinning your wheel.
Thats why the cr500 was detuned in 86. And you just explained exactly why modern race 4 strokes dominated the race scene. Linear power delivery equals traction. It just showed how a better launch, and rider can make up a big perf. diff. I like when they show actual times of each run. I think the guy riding the yz 500 had his worst launch, and time vs the 250, therefore making it much closer than if they raced last, after he got more comfortable racing. Also with minimal traction, power can be a detriment to quickness, if not masterfully managed.
As much as I'd like to see a newer version of the bike I'd like to see how the original would handle the newer bikes. My money will still be on the old skool Godzilla and the kx mayhem monster
Seems like but not in a drag race. The 4 strokes linear torque curve is far better at producing traction. Vs the 2 strokes peaky power delivery. Thats what was on display.. the 2 strokes had no traction the 4s had slightly more. The 2 stroke will destroy that 450 IF!! they have traction. In a drag race. Another 100ft and thar 450 would have walked both the 2 strokes. They can't compete on the big end. 450 turning higher rpm a power approaching red line than the 2 strokes. The 2 strokes simply make way more peak torque. Both are laying down probably at least 10 more ftlb at peak numbers than the 450.

Yo I work in powersports and ride these all-all the time. That 500 isn’t that fast off a dig, the gearing is a lot more even power and longer 3-4-5 gears. What is a yzed .I never heard of one were they just European motorcycles we have the yz over here in America
I will always be a Die hard fan of 2 strokes.
We need more Glenn !🍻
all bikes are awesome, i want to have some bikes like that, ive been dreaming that kind of bike, huhuhuh
It would be nice to see the specs of each bike at the start of the race, in text on the screen as not everyone is familiar with these bikes 😊
You need to drag race up a steep hill, then you will see the difference in power!
we need to do that for sure, Thanks for watching
Yzilla 😍🇧🇷top!
I thought the 500 4 would have done a lot better, it didn't get a very good start though.
Great vid, love watching 👍
The 250 4 did better against the yzilla than the 500 4 lol
500 4 stroke is detuned, if it were built the same way as the 450’s it would destroy both these 2 strokes
Yo I work in powersports and ride these all-all the time. That 500 isn’t that fast off a dig, the gearing is a lot more even power and longer 3-4-5 gears. No bs if they raced that kx450 vs the 500exc Id bet the Kx would cross that finish line first, however the 500 would probably have more top end power in the later gears, i dont think it would utilize it in a Mx drag race. I think their track is ass tho, it’s not as legit as racing all of these on real dirt, not wet torn up grass, this test was more of a fun race than it was any bit learning, the 250 had the best performance, and I personally think they let off on the 450vs500 2stroke race, I think the 450 would’ve beaten it- it was getting to that top end and very quickly gaining
@@imjustspeakingfactsbro4189okay? If the YZ500 was built like a YZ250, which is still very held back it would make 100 horsepower, if it were build like an 85 it would make 150. The 500 2 stroke is held back waaaaaay further than the 500 4 stroke
If the YZilla had like 500 more feet so it could slow down it might’ve been able to pull back to the Meg in the 3rd race.
500more feet and it would’ve lost to the 450
@Im just speaking facts bro yeah only cause of gearing. 2 stroke making more power and torque
1987 husqvarna wr430...........that is the quickest big bore 2 stroke I've ever tidden
Even compared to a kx500 it was next level so much torque
Try one if you can 😂👍🏻
Bikes are all pretty close. One variable that is probably dictating the outcome is rider ability.
That was a fun video👏👏👏👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching:)
Ask Alan if he gets his grey hair dye from the same place as me lol.
Hi there Joyce'y
:) We'll let him answer that lol
It's not from a bottle lol
Had to say the rear tire of the 500exc was done, think a new tire made a huge difference
Same as the kxf
Has he done a video of how much it's cost? Out of curiosity. Not seen all videos on it yet
Fun video!
you should do drags with 500 vs 700 vs the 4 cylinder ktm you build!
we can, but that has 150 bhp so nothing will get near it :)
@@999lazer nothing will get near it on the long run , but on a short drag im sure the yz500 will give it a run for it money
Megladon 4 th gear start??????👍
I really enjoyed the video. Would be really cool if you mixed up the riders on each of the bikes and did a shit ton more drag races. 👍
thanks for watching , we'll do some more for sure :)
It was a serious drag race If it meant anything, they wouldn't be doing wheelies down the main stray what a farce and EV would beat it
I believe that the kx450 is faster!!! In this race wasn't enough space to go full throttle.if you tested again with enough space you see that.
Anybody understand dropping 2 in the back and going up 1 in the front?
Do the yzilla vs husky 300tx
