I stand with the UAW. The request for fairness is NOT TOO MUCH! Treat people with respect, dignity, and fairness. People only complain about the “little guy” get paid.
The big 3 made 21 billion in profits in the first half of 2023. UAW Labor costs which are 5-10% of a vehicle breakdown like this...we'll use a topped out employee making $32 an hour as an example. which WE ALL KNOW not everyone makes that lol 146,000x2080 hours = 303,680,000 hours worked full time for the year. 303,680,000x$32= $9,717,760,000 So the total labor cost of 146k workers at fulltime MAX PAY is not even 10 billion dollars for the entire year! (I know there are some skilled trades and SBU workers who make more but there are groups who make less as well) So what would happen if you gave every single person a 40% wage increase? well let's do the math because that's what intelligent people do lol and for arguments sake let's do it all up front to make it easy numbers wise $9,717,760,000 x 1.4 = $13,604,864,000 for a grand total difference of $3,887,104,000 (for all three companies combined) oh and by the way this is for the entire year of wages!! So to make these numbers more accurate, let's break it down so it's also in line with the first half of 2023. $13,604,864,000 / 2 = $6,802,432,000 or an increase of only $1,943,552,000 So...These MORONS in the media who can't even do basic math are over here saying our companies are going to go bankrupt these companies with our ludicrous proposals and yet here it is people right in front of you the broken down math on a full 40% pay increase if every single worker was making at least $32 an hour assuming tiers are wiped out and everyone was full pay plus the pay increase all up front rather than spread out over 4.5 years of contract. Let's add in the FICA tax for SS and Medicare OF 15.3% / 2 = 7.65% X 32 = $2.45 an hour 401k contributions of 6.4% and $1 an hour = $3.05 an hour Dental, Vision, Disability, Life Insurance are all extremely negligible costs probably only adding up to about $1 an hour but let's be friendly and say $2 an hour. $1,500 bonus yearly (for those who get it) is like 0.72 an hour So what are we at right now? just a hair under $50 an hour....you can't count vacation and sick days etc. because I based the hours formula on full 2080 hours which is 40 hours a week by 52 weeks in a year.
