  • Buying a new or second hand bike can be difficult. Making the right choice of bike for the 90% of riding you are going to use the bike can be a batle against the passion of what you really want. In this review, let's look at the Triumph Tiger 900 that is from the generation 2019 thru 2023 and why you should consider this bike for your riding career. It may well satisfy the needs rather than the wants. The 900 is not perfect, but it is bloody good. And the distance between this version and the new 2024 edition is not as large as you think. Therefore, you could get a great bargain from the dealership or second hand. Plenty of garage queens for this bike. Please do comment and give me your thoughts.

From one pensioner to another ... and I'll be bankrupt too when my 2024 Tiger 900 GT Pro arrives in June! Good video, brilliant bike. Love the blue colour - mine will be red - I had thought only the Rally Pro was available in blue but seems I was wrong. I also plan to do a very similar route to you hopefully this summer. Just one suggestion ... don't ask me why but the the locals pronounce Llangollen klan-goth-luhn !! Enjoy the bike!

Richard does that massive sat nav screen not annoy you it would me. Recently I've been watching videos on similar Chinese bike's like Bennelli and Voge they come across as good bike's at prices Triumph could only dream of with some offering a complete luggage package in the price. Your Triumph is looking a very expensive alternative now.

Hi Ian, good to hear from you 👍. The TomTom is large but the distance from my head to the TomTom is relatively quite far. So a large screen does help. To be fair, most of the time, I nav with my phone with the Quad Lock mount but on this occasion, I thought I would test out the TomTom. Expensive Triumph - ok, go grab a coffee 😆. I need a new t shirt from Triumph Staffordshire and walked out with a brand new Tiger. The T Shirt cost me £10600 and I got a free bike (that's one way of looking at it 😆). The bike was reduced as it was pre-registered with zero miles. The price was right based on a plan of traveling the world in three years time when I reach the age of 60 and when a couple of pensions kick in. So, this bike should be a long term keeper. That's the plan as I suspect I will not be able to afford to live in the UK upon retirement however, this is not the point. Had I known how good the Tiger was, and how good the 800 Tiger was (Mark bought the 800 and we went to france - see previous vlogs from 2023), I would have probably bought a garage queen 800 with the luggage which would have cost about £6.5k. And the 800 is more economical than the 900. So, the 800 is a great alternate to the 900. That alternate makes it a bit more palatable. Like many divorced (relatively recently) men, they rebuild their wealth in cash but are often asset poor (do not own a house). This is my situ and it appears to work well for a plan over the next three years - hence why I just bought the Tiger which at the time (and still does) appeared to fit the plan and the budgets available. Hope you enjoyed the coffee 😆

That Tiger sure is a pretty looking bike. And I really like it in that blue color. Will you be hanging onto the 2 bikes that you currently own? That was really pretty countryside that you were driving through. Have a glorious day my U.K. friend!! Cheers!! Illinois, USA

Hey Larry. I bought the Tiger for a long term plan (which may or may not happen - dreams 'n' all). Based on my personal situation, and that I have a couple of pensions that start in three years, and the fact that it is so expensive to live in the UK, and that a costly divorce took all of my capital 😆 (its starting to sound like a computer program code), and I calculate my life expectancy to somewhere around 65 to 70 years............at 60, get on the Tiger and just travel the world. Stopping in places for a few months and maybe work at cafes and or teach english to support the financials etc etc. That was sort of the plan and as such, the Tiger would be the long term bike. The BSA was a bike to promote the channel but it is such a good bike that I tend to want to ride the BSA when I open the garage. I have a window of three years I guess and can take my time in deciding what to do. Like many things, each bay is a blessing and when the time comes, I will need to make some sort of decision of which today, it's not needed to be done. The country side where I live (Eccleshall, Staffordshire - 1 hour away from the great roads of Wales) is fantastic for riding. Some roads are fast, but most are not. I will miss the roads of the UK should I venture out in three years, but life must go on - and at the very worst, I have to travel to come and take advantage of your hospitality Larry 😆👍

I have to disagree with your comments on the heated seats and heated grips. Both are great. Not blisteringly hot, but more than good enough.
One thing very few reviewers comment on is how easy they are to put on the center stand. I've been riding for nearly fifty years and this is the easiest bike I've ever owned to put on the stand.
Pillion comfort is very good; my wife prefers it to the GS's I've owned in the past. I've learned to live with the crappy screen design and I'm not that impressed with the '24 version either.
They are very good value for money new, but servicing costs are expensive.

Hi Alan, great comment. Heated grips - there appears to be bikes that are great, and others that are not so great. I suspect my bike was one of the ones that was not so great. However!!!! Whilst I ride with the same gloves in deep winter on the BSA which has Oxford heated grips (which work well), when riding with the Tiger, I could not feel any heat. And this was due to the gloves being so thick on the palm side. I then purchased winter gloves where the palm material was thin (relatively) and from that point, I could feel the heat from the Tiger grips. That said, when trying the BSA with these new gloves, the Oxfords were blistering hot. It must be a supplier batch issue on the grips I am sure

Decent review, to many reviews on this bike but as you own the bike its better than someone who just takes out a bike from the dealer for an hour. I have the gtpro in my opinion grips are ok as with the heated seat which I've used over the winter.....
The tft is fine.....you just get used to it..mine is on a different setting to yours......the only negative thing is if you have grips / seat / spotlights on then switch of ignition off when you turn it back on you have to switch them all back on.....and the ridiculous service costs.....but i love the bike purchased in nov21 and 18000 miles on the clock. 👍

    • @bankruptpensioner
      @bankruptpensioner  4 місяці тому

Thanks Stuart 👍. It's a great bike but like most bikes, they are not perfect. One does get used to the TFT but it could be better I think. It's good to see you have done so many miles. Let's talk about servicing - 😆. It is expensive. And these are my thoughts so i am not trying to be prescriptive here. Oil and filter changes, I do these myself and the total cost is usually about £60. It is easy to do. The 900 will need a value shim check at 12k. I won't be doing this as I feel it is unnecessary and is just a way of perpetuating revenue generation for the manufacturer. All the manufactures do this. This is my thought. I will probably have a look at this when the bike gets to about 50k miles unless strange noises appear from the top end. Based on my knowledge at this time, I know when I replace the Tiger that it will be worth nothing and will be well past its warranty. But if it lasts ten years, which it should, then that is ok with me. So, in ten years, the evidence of service history will be academic and irrelevant. I suspect the damage to the bike over the ten years will eventually mean that when I am in the far east traveling the world, that someone will take out the engine from the bike and put in in a motor boat 😆. The Tiger would then be replaced by something like a 125 step through. Is this 'method in the madness'? 😆

19:37 Hi Richard, thanks for your reply, I agree on not intending to check the valves. I also didn't get them checked at 12000 as I find the cost an absolute rip off, when I purchased the bike in Nov 21 I was told it would be around £400 some 2 1/2 years later its now £800 + extra if they need shims, to be honest I'm not sure whether or not I could do valve shims etc.....I change oil regularly and changed the front pads at 15k and I'm going to replace the spark plugs in the next couple of weeks as they're original. I have a nexus nexlink to reset service indicator and would rather do these things myself than taking it to any triumph dealer as I know its being done to my satisfaction. It runs superb and have no plans to change in the foreseeable future....by the way I can recommend the the cool seat cover which are great improving comfort for longer journeys from (COOLCOVERS.CO.UK) I have no connection with the company, they come made for your specific bike. Looking forward to some warmer rides in the next few months. Perhaps see you around in the summer, don't see many caspian blue tigers around, I'm in Stoke too. Enjoy the tiger.

@@StuartRShaw-vy5tz Hey Stuart, prices are crazy. From a business perspective, get the rider to buy and then recoup other costs over time with high prices for servicing. On the understanding that most people (mainly men of we are open and honest) can't use a screw driver, never mind a socket set.

Nice daily ride! It can get you both around town & out of the rough stuff if you are unlucky enough to get there. (Sadly, we ALL get there, intended or NOT!) Like you said, who's going to be comfortable enough to pick up the pick after a fall? All the ADV prefixed bikes are almost too big & top heavy to begin with! [End of rant].
Like you, I prefer to control my destiny w/ my bikes- so, either go new or 'garage queen' because they are so good right out of the box! I went GQ on my 2015 Indian Scout 'full dresser' & paid the GQ tax to boot. But, I did the Aprilia all shiny & new.
Man, those Triumph's - they just hit me directly in emotional touch points. I can see the love of a well-owned Bonneville T100 or T120, the excitement of a sunny PM ride on a Chrome Edition Thruxton RS (would a QS work on this bike, or what?!) What can I say, I'm addicted to the symphony of their 3 cylinder, in-line engines (765 R/RS, 1200RS/RR). I did NOT consider the 660 for ownership, as I was spoiled by the years with 675RS...
Is sensible the ultimate choice? Maybe for your 1st bike: can get wet, goes to store with you often, might commute, etc...But, all other bike thoughts involve the possible possibilities!!!

@@bankruptpensioner Why Change? The Tiger 900 is a superb motorcycle with added skills over a standard bike. It has that Triumph feel of genuinely good dampening/handling, well detailed w/ logos & badging & anyone who respects Triumph will value as highly as T120 or say a Thruxton RS!
Now, if after a year, the 'Ole Tiger is getting a little boring? Well, feel free to spice it up with a T100/T120 or (my personal favorite, the lil 900 Thruxton). The fancy, new RS has all the toys, but its purchase price reflects: Ohlin's rear shock, Brembo M50 calipers,...rich for my blood.

Hi Graham. The 800 has a strange advantage of being more economical than the 900 (from my experience). Mark and I went to France, he was on the 800 and I on the 900. Every time we filled up from a near empty tank, I would fill an extra 2.5 litres on the 900. Therefore, whilst the 900 is higher in the euro class, ironically, it appears to be less economical than the 800. Bizarre 😆

That bike is overkill for British roads. Too much HP, expensive dealer serviceing, chain drive. Poor choice for a commuter bike that you will be racking up lots of miles just going back and forth to work. Belt drive is so much better than a chain drive. Mine last 100,000 + miles out of one. Brembo brakes need serviceing every 7,000 miles. Adventure bikes are for a different kind of poser. Shim under bucket valve adjustment is expensive. Really a race bike with turn signals. Good for track days not a touring bike, not a good commuter bike. LCD display don't last for nothing. Like a LCD calculator that the numbers faded out. Electronics waiting to have a expensive failure. ABS costs $2,400 to fix for example. No thanks.
