Hi Mia, for historical context, this song came out in 1983 and P Diddy’s Missing you came out in 1997. This 1983 version was the USA music charts #1 song of the year. It was #1 for six weeks. This song was HUGE! Glad you reacted to it and thank you.
It's a little bit more than just a sample since the ENTIRE chorus is taken from the melody and beat of Every Breath You Take. It would more accurately be a contrafactum since it put new lyrics over it.
@@CynicalGear Yeah we are still allowed. Just cuz Diddy did it, doesnt mean you cant discuss his music, or even like it. I dont really get into alot of rap or that sort of music he made, but others did, and they are still allowed to like it.
I'm just floored that you never head of the The Police. But Mia, despite what most people think about this being a romantic song, Sting (the lead singer) actually wrote this as a stalker not accepting a breakup. The creepiness is the intent of the lyrics. Sting also wrote it in the same house that Ian Fleming wrote James Bond. And most importantly, as others have said, Sean Combs' is no "version" of this song. He just sampled it and pays Sting something like $5,000 a week or something.
Stalkers, obsessed energy vampires this song will always be in their top ten favorites. Police had some great songs. Sounded even better back in the rocking 80s 1983 more specifically. 😊
Diddy sampled this song without Stings permission & Sting sued him. Now he pays Sting $1,800.000 a year & supposedly it’s till 2053. This song brings me back to my early teens..if I can recommend Sinéad O’Connor- Nothing Compares to you
To be fair, the 1990s was an era where rappers and DJs thought they could just "sample" other artists with impunity. The laws hadn't quite caught up with the music until "Ice Ice Baby" came up in the spotlight.
the song is performed in a romantic kind of way, which resonates with many people. But when you pay attention to the lyrics you realize it is about something else. That's the magic of the song.
Sting now claims this song was written about Big Brother as in Orwell's 1984. But when it was originally released, he said the melody woke him from his sleep and he wrote the song in minutes - recovering from a bad breakup. It's a melancholy melody that fits perfectly with the emotions of letting someone go that you never wanted to lose.
Hello Mia..I love your reactions to CLASSIC bands, it makes your channel expand on a generational level..👍...from THE POLICE what to tell you..that STING, singer and bassist, transferred the band and at the solo level continued his success ..also to tell you that The Police is a band that has had too much success... that is why it is a very remembered band and also that both STING and Stewart Coppeland (drums) and Andy Summer (guitar)..they took the band in the middle of a relationship..LOVE/HATE.. on that Hate/Ego/Fights between the 3 of them, the perfection of THE POLICE is based...ANOTHER LIKE AND EVERY DAY I THEY LIKE YOUR REACTIONS MORE...👍👍
Sting (the lead singer) is playing an upright bass which is known as a concert bass. These kind of basses were widely played in the Jazz standards from the 30s and 40s. Obviously, pre-electric bass guitars and bass pianos. The concert bass is mostly used in orchestras and symphonies. On a different note, one of my all time favorite Police tracks is "Don't Stand so Close to Me". I like the original track and the remake, both versions are performed by the Police.
The Police were one of the most popular bands in the 70's and 80's . One of my favorite songs since it was released. You should check out more Police, they are amazing. Also one day the right man might just play this song for you Mia
There is a thin line between obsession and stalking. One shows dedication to someone you love ,and who loves you back, and the other is the former, but without the latter.
Written by and sung by Sting. He is on vocals, on upright bass and synthesizers. Andy Summers on guitar, piano 🎹. Stewart Copeland on drums. P Diddy sampled this. He pays a ton to Sting each time I'll Be Missing You is played. I met Andy Summers. He is upset 😡 that he does not get paid enough when the P Diddy song is played. The Police were in a mess. Infighting. They broke up 💔 after the tour of this album. Meanwhile opening act Bryan Adams was on the rise. Spanday Ballet was also on the rise. They recorded the album True in The Bahamas 🇧🇸. The Police recoded in Montserrat 🇲🇸. Suggested videos 📹: 1 Dire Straits and Sting perform Money for Nothing live at Live Aid. 2 Phil Collins and Sting sing Take Me Home 🏡.3 Bryan Adams sings Run to You. 4 Spandau Ballet performs True.
Such a classic! I suggest "Roxanne" "Message I A Bottle" "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" "I'll Be Wrapped Around Your Finger" "Don't Stand So Close To Me" "Walking On The Moon" Sting went solo and did "Fortress Around Your Heart" He had a wonderful solo career. Also, Blackstreet--Don't Leave Me and No Diggity are both good. If you want another wedding song, I suggest Sheriff--When I'm With You.
OMG...only JUST hearing The Police?? Wow! They are an amazing band! I started out as a Beatles fan, then a Hard Rock-into-Progressive Rock fan, by 1980. BUT! I got into a band around this time (drums) and we were learning the Punk Rock and Hard Rock songs of the time (late '70s early 80s). I discovered The Police around this time because my favorite Prog band, Rush, really loved the Police! And, if Rush loves them, then they must be great! You will love them (just like you will love INXS, when you hear/see them!), so keep going down the rabbit hole!
About time you listened to The Police! Sting *vocals/upright bass/bass, Stewart Copeland *Drums/Percussion, Andy Summers *guitar. The song is written by Sting. Give Roxanne a shot next, then try So Lonely, then try anything. Very few misses by this band under the name The Police, and Sting is just about to wrap his current tour if he hasn't already with a brand new release just a few days ago.
the top song of the year when it first came out in 1983 and many bride and grooms first dance was to this song without realizing it is a 'stalker' song...lol
This came out as an intense breakup song that Sting said he was surprised he got away with it. It seems, for instance, like the song "Reasons" from Earth ,Wind, and Fire, that attaches beautiful soul music to a one night stand, the stalker mood of Sting's broken lover is covered in lush whole notes and ethereal chords. In most songs, listeners tend to feel the music and then grasp the words after...
Sting wrote it when he was in the midst of a painful divorce from his then wife. So you could say it's a stalker song, although when we are in that dark place we're not always thinking clearly, right? Better to write a song about it than to actually become a stalker. What is funny though is that the song is popular at weddings. (I'd be deeply concerned if it came up at my wedding - a bitter divorce song). The song holds the distinction of having the most radio airplay ever. (It might have been surpassed since then, I'm not sure, but probably not). So Sting is making quite a lot of dough from this song alone. And The Police is one of the biggest bands of the 80s - essential listening for anyone interested in the decade.
"The Police" made great songs: Roxanne Every little Things she does De Do Do Do King of Pain Message in a Bottle Spirit in a Material World (one of my favourites) There's also Sting (the lead singer): Englishman in New York Shape of my Heart Fragile
I was a young teen when this came out and it's quite strange that for 20 years this was considered a love song and romantic. And for the last 20 years, it has turned into a song about obsession and stalking. Works either way for me and an amazing song. Continue through their catalog: they made some great music and Stewart Copeland is one of my top 5 favorite drummers.
This song isn’t romantic at all. In fact it’s actually about an obsessed and possessed lover who is a borderline stalker. It’s actually much more sinister and darker than you think Mia. Message in a Bottle or Roxanne would be the next songs you react to the Police
Police were a great band, Sting had a pretty prolific solo career after the Police as well and Stewart (drummer) phenomenal, not so much on this but other stuff. For Sting, check out Desert Rose. I think you'd like.
Love your channel. The police have a lot of great songs. Everything she does is magic, King of Pain, Don’t stand so close to me. I look forward to your reactions every day
"Sting" is playing the standup bass. This song was the biggest hit of the year in 1983. You should really check out "Roxanne by them, about 5 years earlier, it was their first hit. Total classic.
If this is the kind of song that hits your heart that you were looking for then you better react to the righteous Brothers!!! They will blow your socks off especially when they sing” you lost that loving feeling”😘😘😘👍👍👍
"A band I've never heard of before... called The Police..." 🤯 🤦🏽♂️🤦♂️. Wow. Bless your heart. p.s., The song that you want dedicated to you is *Adore* from Prince.
Dear girl, in those days (80's) that is what guys were doing or saying to the girls they love, now is not even close for comparison... I am a teen of the late 70's and early 80's and to be romantic was the staple of life....
The Police were huge in the 80s and 90s though definitely check out some of the lead singers solo stuff, really good, Sting is his name, Desert Rose and Fortress are to of my favorites from Sting but as for the police they had alot of really good songs some with a bit of reggae sound
New to your channel. It's great. You need to listen to Steelheart's I'll never let you go... Slaughter's Fly to the Angels ...and Skid Row's I remember you. Have a wonderful day 😁
Hahaha hi mia ..love the laugh I couldn't help but laugh too...great reaction..I laughed cuz the funny thing is you got the lyrics right away...when this song first came out ...there was actually some people that didn't ...and when they finally did they were like WTF ..🤣😂....I actually love this song and the beat is fire..the police was a great band..and the group you were talking about is .." Ah..Ha."....take on me ..which you have to do the mtv acoustic version..just hits different....or actually if you can please do a reaction to Tears for Fears..." Head Over Heels ".. ..take care..🙏
The most misunderstood song in history. It was THEE romantic song of 1983, and was many couple's wedding song. But....... Sting bursted a million bubbles when he revealed that this is a straight up stalker song. The other song as misunderstood as this one is "Reasons" by Earth Wind & Fire. Please listen to that one.
2024 Still the most played song in the history of radio. Maroon 5 did a song with a dark theme similar to this (Animal) and thankfully most people can tell the difference between entertainment -v- reality.
Mia. Once again, you’re doing an awesome job on your channel! The Police are a hugely popular band with quite a few amazing tracks. You should try “Wrapped Around Your Finger” “Synchronicity” “Everything She Does Is Magic”
This is one of their very successful songs. Having said that it’s far from my favorite. They have so many good songs, especially in their early albums.
In 1985 there was a girl in high school that had a crush on me and she would call my house and play this song over the phone. Years later she contacted me on Facebook to apologize for stalking me and I never heard from her again
This band is amazing and they were big back in the days. Sting did a lot of big hits too. Actually this song once was dedicated to me in the past by a girl I met, and to be honest, that was a little scary. But hey, I would dedicate this one to you😅
Sting, the songwriter/bassist, once received some correspondence from a fan. The guy basically told him: My wife and I--- this is *our song.* Sting was like--- 'Whooo! What kind of a relationship do you guys have...???' :D :D :D
Hi Mia, I'm an older musician and The Police are in my top 5 if not #1 Bands with this and songs like Every little thing she does is magic, Don't stand to close to me, Message in a bottle & many more
Their older stuff is more fun. "Canary in a Coal Mine", "Driven to Tears", "Synchronicity", "Roxxane" - some really good stuff. The Police were great at generating musical hooks. Sting is playing a stand-up bass here. He generally plays bass guitar.
Gotta love The Police- check out "Message In A Bottle"- Sting is the stand up bass player, Stewart Copeland is the drummer, and Andy Summers plays guitar, and they are awesome!
Walking on the Moon gets my vote for next The Police song. Desert Rose is my vote for a solo Sting song. Sting said he was surprised the song became such a hit. According to him the music and lyrics were so generic it shouldn't be a hit. But he did say, "I never contradict people about what the meaning of the song is. I think whatever it means to you, that's what the meaning is."
This song was played on the movie "The Replacements" staring Keanu Reeves. Sweetie, I dedicate this song to you...😊..keep up the great reactions and have a blessed day 🤙
You will have to go down the "Bad English" rabbit hole...The best songs on the albums, IMO are not even the popular ones....much love from Houston......🙏🇺🇲🙏😎🔥🔥🔥😎
Sting plays the double bass (about 6 feet tall) which is what you would typically find in music from the big band era, not the '80's. But he makes it work, doesn't he?
In the P. Diddy (formerly Puff Daddy) version, they used the music and the chorus with some changes to the lyrics. This has been done before - Vanilla Ice's Ice, Ice Baby used the music from Queen's Under Pressure, MC Hammer's Can't Touch This used the music from Rick James's Superfreak, Madonna's Hung Up obviously used the music from ABBA's Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) and Lordi's chorus in Hard Rock Hallelujah used the music from Alice Cooper's Poison. Sure the lyrics is creepy, but the music and Sting's singing makes this song work so well and it's still one of my favorite ballads! Would it make you feel better If I said that I would love to dance with you to this song?... ;) =)
Hi Mia, for historical context, this song came out in 1983 and P Diddy’s Missing you came out in 1997. This 1983 version was the USA music charts #1 song of the year. It was #1 for six weeks. This song was HUGE! Glad you reacted to it and thank you.
There is only one version, this one. The other isn't a version it's a sample
It's a little bit more than just a sample since the ENTIRE chorus is taken from the melody and beat of Every Breath You Take. It would more accurately be a contrafactum since it put new lyrics over it.
I don’t think we’re allowed to talk about the sample version anymore.
@@CynicalGear Well Sting gets a check every week for it so. Its ok
@@CynicalGear Yeah we are still allowed. Just cuz Diddy did it, doesnt mean you cant discuss his music, or even like it. I dont really get into alot of rap or that sort of music he made, but others did, and they are still allowed to like it.
@ yeah, I know we can, it was clearly just a joke.
I'm just floored that you never head of the The Police.

Everything she does is magic
dope one
"roxanne" or "message in a bottle" are classics
DON T STAND SO CLOSE TO ME is a POLICE song STING wrote about himself being a high school teacher and some of his students having a crush on him
The instrument is an Upright Bass
Diddy stole it and is paying sting $2000 a day for life
For those who choose to not drag their minds through the gutter, this is a beautiful song.
Of course, there others who listen to it as Sting himself intended it - which is straight up obsession song.
Stalkers, obsessed energy vampires this song will always be in their top ten favorites. Police had some great songs. Sounded even better back in the rocking 80s 1983 more specifically. 😊
Wrapped Around Your Finger is another great "love" song by The Police. It's my favorite song by them. I think the songwriting is immaculate.
P. Diddy (the diddler) sampled this without permission and has to pay Sting a few thousand dollars each day. The song is actually about a stalker.
Not surprised.
Diddy sampled this song without Stings permission & Sting sued him. Now he pays Sting $1,800.000 a year & supposedly it’s till 2053.
This song brings me back to my early teens..if I can recommend Sinéad O’Connor- Nothing Compares to you

Wonder If Diddy can still pay for it today considering the situation he's at.....
the song is performed in a romantic kind of way, which resonates with many people. But when you pay attention to the lyrics you realize it is about something else. That's the magic of the song.
As I know Sting himself payed attention to the lyrics to late. He intended to make a sweet/sad romantic song.
Leadsinger and songwriter Sting loves when people say they got married with this song. His response: "Good luck!" 😂
"This is the kind of love I'm looking for. " song is about the kind of love where you break up and he won't leave you alone.
Read my comment, fits you also
This is most romantic song about stalking your ex-wife. I recommend never to act on these feelings.
Sting now claims this song was written about Big Brother as in Orwell's 1984. Back in the day, newlyweds danced to this, then Sting revealed it was an Obsessed Stalker Song
Now a stalker who winds up getting married to his Obsession? Romantic but creepy same time
The only woman I know who wants stalker love....................
There is a thin line between obsession and stalking. One shows dedication to someone you love ,and who loves you back, and the other is the former, but without the latter.
#1 wedding song! That bass was used by 50's rockabilly music, btw

I have heard this song a million times, and I never in my wildest dreams thought it was creepy...rather It's a beautiful emotional love song.
It's a song about stalking.
It is genius song writing. It all depends on how you perceive it good or bad.
Obsessed Stalker Anthem!!!
This is a stalker song. But many people used this for their weddings
A Real Big Base Guitar as played by Sting Masterfully
Would it make you feel better If I said that I would love to dance with you to this song?... ;) =)
