    *So amazingly quiet and **Fastly.Cool** in my room! 42db is at a whisper level. I bought 2 and installed myself.Very sturdy bracket and easy to adjust to fit windows of different size. Absolutely fabulous units!!*

    2 things you can try. 1. punch a start point into the metal. If you don't have a punch you can use a hammer and a strong nail. This will also make it easier to drill at an angle. 2. start with a smaller drill bit and work your way up to the size of hole you want.

    Seems like a good idea thanks. Only thing i can think of is that the holes may get clogged up easily, has that been the case for anyone?

    I did this but i drilled the back side up through the bottom. Its draining out of the back very well, however STILL dripping into my dining room. Im thinking its time to pull it out & reinstall on a steeper angle. Thx for the video guys 👍👍👍

    Thank you for the video! Saved me money! I did it an unconventional way but it worked. My AC unit is installed in the wall and it is HEAVY. Since I don't have any guys around, I used a flat baking pan, cut off one end to allow the water to flow off and placed it beneath the AC unit. The gap between the AC and wall was big enough for me to slide it in and under . If I had a drill, I would of drilled two holes for the drain but this worked just as good. Just saying, it isn't conventional but it worked!

      Did you mean a disposable tin pan you buy in bulk in the supermarket, or a real metal pan? Is the opening you cut put at the back of the a/c so the water then runs out the back to outside the bldg.? Tks. if you can answer.

    Maybe you can also protect the inside pipes with a very hard piece of metal before drilling to lessen the chance of an accidental hole?

  • @furrybear

    I tried to drill before and I couldn't get through the metal. I'm not super handy. Could you possibly share the type of bit you used? You made it look so effortless.

    You should not drill holes too low in the ac base. Most window ac's have what they call a slinger ring . It's a ring that runs around the outer edge of the condenser fan blade and slings water up on the condenser coil to help it cool better. If you drill holes too low in the bottom , then the a/c will not hold enough water to sling up on the coil.

      Howard Alt Thanks, I was wondering why they didn't just drill through the bottom. You answered my question perfectly.

      you should not be drilling holes in ACs at all. Bad approach, Clean and title the unit and if that fails call in professions.

      Not from the Outside, but I see Nothing wrong w/ drilling a hole if theres no plug to remove- my pan has overfilled & condensation from the get go & not my first time w/ these by a long stretch. Brand New GE unit.

      @@HLJeter1966 Call Profe$$ionals ??? , a Professional took all my $$ screwing up the last one- blindly drilling a hole, I said- Dont Hit a coil! 3 seconds later- Hissssss. .

  • @ShaunBennett
    @ShaunBennett Рік тому

    yeah... I did that on a old unit. nicked the coil and pop hissssssss went my dreams. be careful and it works great. Just be sure to not put the hole too low, the ring needs to be able to pick up some water.

    Thank you for the video. Unfortunately, I was not able to remove the unit and take it out of its casing. So I tried to drill the farthest corner at an angle drilling away from the innards of the unit, but still hit the Freon pipe. My AC unit is now dead. Until I can afford to remove and replace the unit, which will be difficult, I have to assume the piping runs all along the outer-most perimeter of the unit. It's an important word of caution that even if you're following these instructions closely, you can still mess up.

    thanks for the video. im having this issue. its actually leaking within my wall and beneath the floor causing my garage ceiling to cave in badly. the mold and amount of water is unreal. :( i do have a hole already there about the size of a dime. it was sorta clogged. once cleaned, its still leaking a bit in the front, as in... dipping to the floor. the unit IS tilted towards the outside. has been. its fully mounted but i am looking for a wat to tilt it more.
    reason for my comment...
    the hole already on my unit is much larger than yours and it was clogged. based on the amount of debris i can see in your unit you are at risk for those holes to clog. so...you may keep an eye out for that or watch a tutorial on how to clean the debris out to prevent clogging.

  • @laprepper
    @laprepper 6 років тому +2

    I would drill up from the bottom and put a small plate on the inside to stop the drill bit.

  • @ardiemclelland2039
    @ardiemclelland2039 4 роки тому

    I take a pair of tin snips and cut a small square piece right out of the lip of the pan that way if any debris makes its way over it has a better chance of draining out versus clogging a small hole.

  • @YannRodrigue
    @YannRodrigue 9 років тому

    Do you know if an A/C NEEDS water inside to operate? I mean, you say don't drill the hole to low otherwise it's going to leak all the time, but let's I don't care whether or not it leaks all the time, can I make my hole lower ?

    • @footballalt
      @footballalt  9 років тому +1

      +Yann Rodrigue / You can make the hole as low as you want as it does not need water in it to run. Just make sure that the water will run away from the house or building to prevent it from coming into the basement.

    New unit, already had "Handy" man kill last one, drilling drain hole from Outside! Theyre supposed to know more than me & He was from NYC Im from Fla, HE depleted my Savings ! Never Had this prob, in my Life of window ACs! Its now tilted down right & STILL makes condensation on the bottom of plastic, Directions say there is a plug, friend helping me refused saying there wasnt one. Today I will try to locate plug again, have filled in soft foam inside, no difference, continuous, we are having 90+ weather, but, Im sure we did before too, I made an aluminum cover draping for shade over it- nothing.

    before seeing this video, I made the mistake of going straight in and sure enough it went right thru the coil and I had to buy a new air conditioner. The only thing I would say is if you drill that hole too high as suggested in this video and the air conditioner happens to tilt forward into the house, then the water may reach the top of the pan inside the house before it reaches the hole outside. I would opt for a lower hole and just let it drip more often on the outside.

      The water cools down the coils so you want some water to be there.

      Most of the new units let the excess water drain over the back lip. They use a slinger fan blade in the outside condenser coil to pick up the water and sling it onto the condenser coils and fins to aid in cooling/increase energy efficiency.Drilling holes negated this increase in efficiency. In drier climates the water may never run out the back. In humid areas it will. If the water is running inside the unit is not installed properly and/or the humidity is so high it produces more water than it can get rid of/drain. This could occur if the unit is not sealed well in a humid climate or outdoor humid air is getting it the room being cooled.

    i have the same problem.. its funny you are the only one to put a video up fixing this problem.. why wouldnt you just drill a hole at the bottom of pan? from the bottom up? why do you want water to build up inside.. dont you want it all to drain out?

    Don't you need the hole on the bottom for the water to leak out though? My air condition is slanted at an angle and water is coming out of the hole outside. Now inside the house it is still leaking below the coils and of course onto my carpet. If I have any more slant it'll be upside down on the ground LOL

    I am an apartment dweller and can’t take off from work for these people to come in. I shimmed my thru-the-wall A.C. unit 3/4”, which is overkill as, it shouldn’t need to tilt more than 1/4”. Still, the water comes in like I’ve done nothing. I’m a single woman so, it’s going to be a bear to pull the unit and do this. Consider this week’s weather, it will instead be Hell in here for me and my 2 cats. Why didn’t the guys who work here know this would happen!!!

      The fan is designed to pick water up off the bottom of the pan and throw it against the condenser coils. This design feature helps improve the efficiency of the unit by reducing heat on the coils, and helps remove some of the condensation and rain water from the pan.
