7:44 We have actually known this about her from the start! Her introduction is saving Zoro in a split second from attacking a celestial dragon. She even made up a story about being his sister. Her being quick witted is super cool.
I do love how Oda drew Saturn's eyes this chapter and a lot of people have made the comparison to his eyes and Saturn's eyes in the painting "Saturn devouring his son" which is pretty fitting.
It's not talked about enough but Oda is quite the fashion guru.
you know I do find it funny that people make fun of the fact pretty much every female character is basically the same character just with different hair. I can never give it fault though considering that's based on his IRL wife. A husband fanboying over his own wife is never a bad thing

I would also argue that because you have the D., it doesn't mean you will smile. It's not a "rule". Case in point, Ace was about to be executed on the platform and didn't smile then. If people wouldn't have saved him in that occasion, he would've died without smiling. The fact that he smiled at the end is only because he had time to come with terms with his own death. The same is true for others Ds, Luffy almost died many times, but it's not like he always smile in those occasions. The smile is just a trend of the Ds to come with terms with their own death (and life).

@@lukebeich ? The idea is as they are dying, they die with a smile on their face. He wasn't "dying" yet on the execution stand so it doesn't really count. If you believe that counts then all the times Luffy didn't smile before Buggy tried to cut his head off should count too.
@ezero yeah, an idea and a narrative recurrence, but that became a "rule of the world" in the fandom. That a D HAS to smile before dying or even further that if someone smiles before dying, then they have the D. That's just an exaggeration.
It's basically the same thing as arguing that since we know that Luffy won't die in the middle of the story, because plot reasons, then it means that Luffy is immortal. That's an exaggeration. In the same way, we know that if we see a character with the D die, we expect them to smile for narrative reasons, but it doesn't mean that's a rule. I doubt that Law's family died with a smile on their face, hence we didn't see them because they weren't important.
The example of Luffy on the platform is exactly my point: if people use that as an example of a D smiling in the face of death, then you can't dismiss Ace in the same exact situation who DIDN'T smile. The fact that Ace didn't die in that instance is irrelevant, he was expecting death at that moment.
To reach the point of "smiling in front of death", a character needs time to come to terms with both their death and life. If they are not given that time, they won't smile.
Glad you pointed out Bonney quick response to chaos. I noticed her behavior in many situations but it shows up way to much in the last few chapters, she is looking to stay safe but also help other people who has helped her too. Im liking Bonney way to much the more confident and safe she feels.
Even her first time meeting a Straw Hat showed it when she jumped on Zoro and pretended he died so he wouldn't get in trouble for attacking a Celestial piece of- I mean dragon.

My hope is that Luffy stays in Giant form so we can see that panel or double spread page with Dory and Broggy standing beside a Giant Luffy. Even for just a bit, i'm all satisfied
And also, i think we gonna get something big reveal next chapter. Even if it's not the whole void century stuff, just something we can get. Plus it's Final Saga, we need this information and lore dump

the luffy, kizaru, saturn panel is one of the absolute hardest panels ever put to page tbh
Tbh, it felt as epic toe as the panel of gattsu's first encounter with the god hand in manga. Luffy is representing the power of what the world calls an emperor and that too in its full glory.
Did anyone notice on the last panel of Kizaru in the second to last page that he was getting ready to light teleport out, but Luffy had him in his grasp in the first panel of the next page? Like, my man grabbed this ninja MID-TELEPORT! Just one more reason to love Luffy!

You know...Saturn being a spider and him calling humans insects actually tracks. He drains and consumes from them until he has his fill, trapping others to do the same to them later. Arachnids eat insects, after all.

While spiders aren't taxonomically classified as insects, the word used in japanese in the manga is "mushi" which more so means "bug", the more specific word for insect would be "Konchuu". So what Merphy said does hold.

I felt very similar about Luffy 🤩🤩🤩 I'm sure someone already pointed this out, but his words to Kizaru and Saturn were an echo of what he told his crew in sabaody, which was focus on escaping vs now that he tells them they're not escaping. GROWTH
I for one, am excited for the day that Barto finds Caribou and beats him up for saying anyone besides Luffy-senpai will be king of the pirates. Considering they're basically the same character (luffy stan v teech stan), seeing that swamp smashed up against a barrier would be fantastic.
They might even become friends, ok it would be fun seeing barto beat him up

I think that a good fitting for this next chapter would be 'The Egghead Incident'. The amount of damage that this bit of information could have could shake the balance across the world. Oda could easily turn this next chapter into the chapter of the year. Even with using primarily dialog for an easier chapter to work on. All I ask is Oda doesn't gloss over and skips over the dialog.

On a more One Piece related note: it were the 5 Elders who told us that Zoan fruits have a mind on their own. And in Impel Down we learned that some of the wardens had their mind taken over by their (awakened) Zoans.
I think we are witnessing exactly that. An awakened mythical Zoan taking over the human side of one of the 5 Elders.
Well, the scientific definition of insect like that is quite new, so in cultural context saying that spiders are insects or that sun is made of fire is quite ok

As for Vegapunk smiling: You don't necessarily have to personally hold the Will of D yourself to have that trait. People who follow or believe in it deeply enough also can have the same smile. Consider Oden and (maybe) Pedro. Neither of them were Ds themselves, but had their moments of sacrifice so that Joyboy could return one day and bring the dawn of the world.
The parallel between Saturn losing control of his Zoan beast and Luffy’s humanity shining through Nika, who usually leaves him in uncontrollable fits of laughter is amazing writing. Saturn has been an imposing bastion of control and logic. Now he’s frothing at the mouth. Luffy has been laughing and carrying on. Now he’s intent, and an intent Luffy is one of the most dangerous things in this series.

I never even thought about that. Saturn calls humans insects when dude is literally walking around in spider form. Quite ironic, spiders technically arent insects, they're arachnids and they eat insects. But he's literally the closest thing to an insect there.

Saint Saturn's eyes in this chapter remembered me of the painting by Goya of the god Saturn devouring his sons, in which the god Saturn has the same eyes empty of any trace of humanity. I don't know if that's what Oda had in mind but it's very likely

Skipping Caribou was funny, but you gotta talk about the potential of Black Beard getting his hands on the ancient weapons. I always assumed the government would be getting them for the final confrontation, so forshadowing Black Beard getting them was HUGE to me.

I'm watching the dub which just completed the Sanji vs Queen fight and Sanji's line in this chapter about Saturn losing humanity by the minute hits different when remembering him being afraid he was losing his humanity as his Germa enhancements awakened. Phenomenal writing.
