      Think this Bond film opening scene is the scariest of all, you know how all Bond films have a prelude scene with Bond in some other mission unrated to the main mission in each film, this opening is the scariest of all, and I saw it when I was seven years old xD xD xD

    The father of a friend of mine in College was in the Secret Service during WW2 and for 25 years after. Things were worse than rough until they started to become ''less Stone Age and into the Supersonic Age on espionage'' in his words, but still as cutthroat. He said after more than 15 years 'retired' that however funny the whole series, specially during the Roger Moore years, this scene provided a more poignant short vision of their profession and was one of the most triggering to him and rich with Genius subtle details and clues, included the whole poetic irony of the heroics to "deliver their Trade merchandise"....the absolute loneliness you have always surrounded by the Enemy, as close as inside the wolves jaws themselves. "We were just a bunch of third rank layer officers, indeed clowns disguised in a thousand identities, costumes or whatever needed and accents regardless our original nationalities and own personal politics if any, in order to be pawned by the Superior Powers you help to remain another century or decade longer, feeding you scraps and maybe a pension. But once you are into it you give it your all and more, because it becomes your life and your life in this lifestyle is in fact on the line at high risk of Death (shot in place or worse if caught alive), it heightens your survival instincts in all its days, hours, minutes with the downside of addictive dependency to it and keep returning for another mission. But it definitely you see yourself bare to the bones like that clown, more than as Bond in his most smarmy smokin suit strutting through casinos full of gold diggers and suave killers. Probably that's why many do not recognize this scene was the most realistic Crown Jewel (secret analogy embedded inside that Faberge masterpiece too) of the whole franchise, like a Russian doll of beauty crafted inside the many layers within the scene in so brief, almost comic sketch smirk of the tragic last minutes of a fallen agent in full clown outfit, more common than 007 fictive odds of survival.

    Remember that his abilities should be equal to those of Bond.. He didn't even take the knife once he hit the one knife-thrower, or from the wall at 1:50..

    • @ElComanchero
      @ElComanchero  8 років тому +4

      +toad g That's an interesting question. It's fair to assume that he was at mental and physical peak in order to be a 00 agent, and he does show his melee fighting skills when taking out the other twin.
      His actions afterwards are confusing, though. As an agent he had a chance to knock out or even kill the other twin right there, instead he leaves him be and escapes against enemies with ranged weapons. Perhaps he panicked? That would seem odd from a top agent, as well.

    • @YD-uq5fi
      @YD-uq5fi 8 років тому +6

      ElComanchero The thing is, a) he doesn't kill the other twin when he had him, and b) he doesn't use the thrown knives that missed him and can now be used by him.
      007 would have prevailed in this situation easily. But 009 was helpless... 009 didn't even have Q's gadgets on him. We have to assume that 009 was in a comparable league as 007, since 006 truly *was* in Goldeneye...

      toad g I agree, he must have been better than good to be 00, suppose Moore's era took thing less seriously than the rest, and didn't take that into account. Nevertheless, still enjoyed it, this scene among the best :)

    People misinterpret this film's inclusion of the clowns as if the franchise has now firmly imbedded itself into self-parody. Taking it for granted that 00 agents are too suave and sophisticated to go as lowly as child entertainers for infiltration, not seeing that it's the VILLAINS going that lowly to use a wholesome family circus as a front to pull off nuclear apocaplyse.
    And by josh, this agent forfeiting his dignity to put on that frown makeup is the least he's willing to pay to unveil this most sinister plot.
    "Why does this clown not smile?" It's because he carries with him the darkest secret. That the most joyous and innocent event will carry the greatest doom.
    2:53 And even his dying moment is like beggar's final act passing on his most precious possession "Please, who EVER you are, finish what I failed to complete." And Roger Moore, putting on that same suit and makeup, possessing the same role as 009 in the beginning, did exactly that.
    Though as far from the opposite as it gets, I think this is equal to Licence to Kill as John Glen's and Michael G Wilson's best work together in the franchise.

    You would need a considerable amount of arm strength , velocity and superb aim to throw a knife into somebody from that distance. Then it has to penetrate through thick clothing . Unlike Hans and Franz , I doubt knife throwing was this effective. They should test that theory on myth busters.

      Are those knives weighted differently than regular circus-throwing knives? They sure had velocity. I like your idea.

    • @2ndltalfredludlow
      @2ndltalfredludlow 9 років тому +6

      No, not really. They only said 007 replaces 009 on the mission and that he died with a fake faberge egg in his hands. What his mission was remains a mistery and his location is even weirder... If they were to replace the genuine soviet jewelry with fakes, the thing supposed to be in Moscow(or India). If they were to smuggle jewelry to the west with help of the circus, the egg should have been real. It also doesn't make sense that later on Kamal smashes the "real" egg, discovering the homing divice of Q. But i don't mind these plot holes, i love this film. It's my favorite James Bond film :D
