Watching Leclerc shout at George in Euro truck sim and playing with Alex in fortnite in a banana costume has definitely improved self isolation I have to say
Alex, George, Charles and Lando. These guys make F1 more enjoyable to watch
Watching George purposely crash into Alex was a good laugh too
@@joelwilson4837 geooorgeeee
@@soytube1151 I love how their talent is good enough that they are all going to be around for a while too!
LemonboyGaming and kimi
Never forget kimi
He really did brought a fresh air into F1.
He humanized f1 drivers..... way to go Lando
Agreed 👍
Nah riccardo did that before lando
Bernard Steenkamp both lando and ricc
@@bernard1195 nah Seb did it before it was cool
An appropriate alternative title for this video:
"Why we love Lando Norris."
Even though Norris is the best example, I think that the new generation of drivers in Sainz, Verstappen, Leclerc, Ricciardo (he is a bit older but eh), Albon and Russel are a breath of fresh air in the sport in general. I has made F1 a sport that's better to watch, both during the race and outside of it.
Max is definately not of the same elk. Top, Top driver destined to be a champion but his personality matches Maldonado's driving.
I take offence that you called daniel old. How dare you
@@plusgood15 With ricc he shown his funnier side alot but since he left he seems to be way more serious
@@plusgood15 That´s not true. Max has a lot of funny moments even now without ric. He might be more serious about F1 overall but that doesnt make him an antagonist or whatever
@@MOo8996cz he's not an antagonist. He's just struggles to take a joke. Comes across as spoilt.
McLaren is going to have a public image gold mine with Landon and Daniel. Props to them for realizing what they had with Carlos/Lando too and starting to produce a lot more content for the fans.
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right...
great!
Norris may be the meme master, but I think Ricciardo helped paved the way for drivers like him as he emerged from that crop of F1 drivers that were so boring.
Exactly
Being funny on a press conference does not help you connect with fans.
Doing parkour on your balcony is much better :D
Tweeting memes and something funny after the race or dressing as a banana on live stream also.
So teams need to let their drivers be as funny as they want and stop micro managing them like they did in the past. I don't know if Lando forced mclaren to be more relaxed or if mclaren embraced it immediately, but the combination kind of changed the game in social media.
I feel that one part has been ignored and that is Liberty Media. They started bringing the sport much more into social media and started offering us glimpses of something else of the drivers and the sport. For a few races we even had access to the driver briefings and we saw behind the scenes. We've had video series like 'Grill the grid' and videos like ''Secret Santa'' given to us on social media. Liberty Media plays in my opinion quite a big part in starting this whole thing off.
@@LethalWalou Yeah from what I understand, drivers options of engaging on social media were pretty limited back when Bernie Ecclestone was in charge. That's honestly the main thing that was keeping me from Formula 1 in the previous years, just the old fashioned nature, lack of engagement and connection with fans. Took me a while to see the changes and get into the sport, with this season being the first I'm following really closely, already buzzing for next season.
odefinetly but its nice to pretty much see daniel ricciardo 2.0
Lando is the perfect example of how confidence doesn't have to come with an enormous ego. He's driven, but never forgets to have fun and enjoy the moment. He's makes his fans proud to be fans regardless of where he finishes. I really can't wait to see him take the top step for the first time.
An addition to Lando and twitch, the whole McLaren PR team killed it with being funny and outgoing, especially with their youtube videos
It's good to see they also embrace the goofy way of Lando's social interaction
Zak on no strings attached : Dude we got a problem ? 😂😂😂
But honestly lando got less screen time than netflix intro.
Nope. It seems like they are up the ass of Hamilton and Verstappen 90% of the time. Possibly the worst drivers to be up the ass of.
Max’s jokie side already came trough when he was team mates

I feel that Mclaren has also helped a lot with connecting with fans. Their unboxed series is amazing and so raw cut
Agree
Norris made me a McLaren fan again.
I can't wait to see Norris and Ricciardo interactions
Lando is a legend, I mod for a Twitch Streamer and he drops in all the time to say allo. He brought me back to the sport after years of disinterest.
Welcome back!
Please just don't hurt them, don't tell them mean things, be nice to them.
Lando is just a good dude. He seems like the fame hasn't gotten to his head and he's genuine. All around good dude, hopefully F1 gets more guys like this.
Can’t wait for the dream meme team. Lando and Ricciardo are gonna be a powerful team for sure, but also a relatable and lovable one.
One of his biggest impacts was the amount of milk he consumed
Riccardo began the wave of humour and personality, and Lando, George and Charles evolved it. Also the time theyve had to stream has helped too

In terms of character... Lando is coming close to kimi's entertaining charisma. And personally that is a high remark
Kimi....charismatic? The guy who barely speaks? What? Kimi is great and all, but charismatic is perhaps the last word I would use to describe him.
@@Thumbsupurbum Kimi is charismatic without trying to be charismatic, but yeah I wouldn't say the 2 are alike
You must be describing some other Kimi in a parallel universe?
Who’s here after his podium at Austria?
Yesssssssss
Me. And I'm btw FROM Austria as well. :)
Another one the next year :)
I’d say lando, Alex George and Charles all fall into the same category of being very good young talents but also going to the fans as opposed the fans having to come to them
Han Solo he’s boring, like another Schumacher or Hamilton, as soon as he gets true success he will become a tax-evading prick
Mahesh M V U he does still have a lot of fans
@@gcar5214 You know that he literally drivers with Lando in an iRacing team together.
@Mahesh M V U Well. You got to be a prick if you want to be the best. Just ask Hamilton.
I love how the camera switches to Grosjean as soon as the narrator begins talking about F1 drivers' lack of a sense of humor.
If Carlos leaves Mclaren for Ferarri I would be hurt. Sainz-Norris is the best duo
It’s probably gonna happen. But at least we might get Daniel at McLaren

Lando has been killing it on twitch, his F1 results are so good too idk how people would complain.
Back in 2019 when I was 1st getting into F1 I didn't know anything about the drivers and their backgrounds but when I 1st heard Lando Norris's name I immediately knew he wasn't like the other drivers and he immediately became my favourite driver
Couldn't agree more. Wasn't quite alive in the 60's but feel like this is as close as it will get to the kind of friendship between the drivers they had back then. Good vid 🚘👍
Lando, George, Alex, and Charles are breath of fresh air, even Max personality is showing, they should be able to enjoy the mundane press they do, this championship been so enjoyable so far.
Who’s here when Lando got his podium in 2020?
Used to watch f1 when I was younger and stopped watching for a bit, now with the new wave of younger drivers, it’s so much more entertaining and enjoyable. Lando deffo got me back into it
Great work from Henrik Rigner who's behind McLarens youtube series Unboxed. Quality filming, cliping and ideas to catch the behind the scene and the drivers!
At the end of the day, we all gotta remember that he's still a normal human being more or less like the rest of us but of course we gotta see how he's gonna grow n evolve in his F1 journey
People who followed F1 on Dutch tv have known the openness of drivers for a lot longer. Rubens Barrichello, to give an example, was joking with interviewers since the mid-90s already. It's not really that drivers are not open and joking, it's more the approach that interviewers and other outsiders have to drivers. If people feel good with a person, they are a lot more open. Or else they'll go into their serious mode, and just answer the questions. The most important thing is: let people be who they are, and don't try to make them something they are not.
true or false from ziggo haha
Today Lando got his first podium in the 2020 Austrian GP!!!!!!!!!! LandoOoOOoOoOOOOo
THE LANDO EFFECT
Mclaren made the duo of the century, Lando and Danny Ric, the 2 most funny drivers in a team, scew 2020, i'm looking foward to 2021 already!
Who's here after Lando's podium finish, and 5th finish after overtaking 3 drivers in the last 2 laps. And is so happy for himhh
Now who's rewatching after a P3 finish after a last lap dash then followed by taking 3 positions in under 2 and a half minutes in the last 2 laps. A true talent, member, social star, an streamer and someone we love and relate too.
Who is here after Austria P3?
Danny Ric and Lando has certainly paved the way.
Also, the impact of Drive to Survive which was jarring for some drivers and teams, but also awakening on how to best work with and present transparency and imperfection. It helps with WTF1 (and similar) inspiring other journalist with their goofy interview formats to allow the Drivers to open up, Red Bull and their seasonal stunts, all working in a direction for the sport to be more colorful and engaging with the fan base that is always hungry for more.
It’s helped Lando become a marketing dream for the sponsors - he has become an asset, it could help his career. Perhaps Hulkenberg have had a better career if he had been better at promoting himself.
Marketing wise he would be a great fit for RedBull. He "targets" the same audience as the drinks do. Driving wise he is great and he and Max Verstappen do work together well (at least in the virtual world). Can not imaging he is not ranking high on RedBull's list of drivers.
I think a big part in this is played by mclaren, allowing lando to do all this and also the inboxed videos they post on every race weekends with behind the scene footage.
Pretty McLaren signed Ricardo partly because he's Soo good on camera.
I think verstappen and ricciardo at red bull were also very funny sometimes
I feel old when i see these same age guys driving F1, lol.
I think the timing for his entry together with a host of his mates from the lower formulae hasn't hurt. Without that, his online persona wouldn't have translated into his "official" interviews quite as much. The Sky Team tapped into that very cleverly as well, with the dual interviews where George and Albon for example would criticise each other's laps. If they didn't have each other to interact with in that way, none of it would have mattered much for one individual's perception in the public eye outside the steamers community.
Finally, someone's talking about this!! I noticed this too and thought my God, F1 are so lucky to have him!!!
I love Lando, he’s in my top 3 drivers for sure. His skill and personality are both amazing!
6:13 charles streaming in a banana costume will never fail to make me smile lmao. it’s such a fun and iconic moment, i love him
Danny and lando oooooooh yeah
I'm a 50+ year old life long McLaren fan and I think Lando is a spectacular addition to the team! even before he joined I was hoping he would be picked for the team and was happy to see him there. As a rookie I think he did just fine with what he was given and so happy to see him grow with the McLaren. The young rookies (the F1 Boy-band) are a fresh new start and makes me feel that F1 has a great future.
I lost my marbles at the "F1 Boy Band", LOL!
That was THE best definition of the current batch of drivers I've seen.
This video is exactly what I've thought about Lando's new influence in F1. Before him, everything was so corporate and serious, it felt as if there was such a massive detachment between the fans and drivers due to their television personas, but with streaming it shows the true side of them that they often keep hidden away from the public eye. I would have never imagined Leclerc's true personality to be so different than what was portrayed previously (in a good way of course).

Here after his first win ❤❤ you've come so far lando 🥲❤
Last year was one of the best years off-track that I remember and this lockdown hasn't been as bad because drivers followed Lando and started streaming and having more fun (as said in the video). I can't wait to see Lando together with Ricciardo in 2021
Imagine saying Lando does not take F1 seriously because he's showing happiness and entertaining us which is literally what he's supposed to do, race for our entertainment.
I have interviwed Lando in 2017 and I knew he will reach F1 and so many people will follow him. A very nice person to chat and closer even some of his fellow colleagues in Argentina. Cheers
watching this video 1 week after posting.
With DaniRic confirmed for next year, McLaren PR team has to be going bannanas. Either their are OMFG wtf have we done wrong to deserve this, those two can not keep a straight face for 30 seconds, or OMFG next year is going to amazing. XD
I can not way for next year with those two on the same team XD
As for the video, spot on, could not agree more.
Anyone watching this after his first podium in Austria ~
I love lando I always watch his streams and is entertaining him and his relationship with other drivers, I've loved watching all there content during lockdown
Fast forward to july 2020 ! Lando 3rd in the championship after a p3 and p5 finish 💪🏽 I'm so happy for Lando and McLaren 🎉
having these drivers streaming, talking to people, showing their jocky and fun side is more relatable than ever before, in the USA no one had any idea what the driver would be doing at all before or after every race. Personally seeing all these postings, streaming, interaction with fans has brought me closer to the sport, F1 is an amazing sport when you get to see the ins and outs of the drivers and their teams.
What he did during the lock-down was great.
With the lockdowns everywhere it has been great to see the drivers being themselves in different scenarios to normal. Really enjoying the iracing and rfactor too and Lando has made big impacts even in the iracing Indycar events with his win where he dominated despite spinning. Shows his driving ability. With Lando, Charles, Alex, George and Matt from WTF1 doing their streams it is encouraging to keep following them whatever they are getting up to, they are hilarious! Great footage in your video and you are right about the PR machines, very false, hopefully Lando, Charles and friends get to show their awesomeness, well done 👍🏼
0:39 that's probably the best way I've seen anyone open the champagne on a podium
Well said he's a breath of fresh air. I'm a huge Lando fan
lando has a bright future streaming hope he makes it big and becomes a big f1 driver
Could not agree more!! For me it’s really energised F1! Great vid :)
I think Drive to survive helps see the drivers personalities also
Good to know that one of my favourite twitcher doing great on his side job👌

He's really funny with the Dutch media tbh 😂
@@kemismits6158 Indeed! The interviews he did in Dutch were often great.
Ironically, Kimi Has the opposite Effect, quiet, and stoic but, We love him for it..
except when he’s plastered, then he’s Extroverted af.
It all comes back to drivers being able to be themselves. Kimi might be stoic, but it's genuine. He ain't stoic because the PR department wants him to be. One of the things they do well in the US is that drivers personalities are more highlighted (While sure often there are fabricated or overdone). Not everyone will like it, but it gives fans more to connect with.
Stoicism is the best way.
That's just Finnish people in general lol
I think this change has also been spurred on by the Netflix show diving into each driver's character and backstory a little more and showing more of the behind-the-scenes drama
Fantastic video and very nicely summarised
Great Video mate! You have a rare insight about topics which I rarely see about F1! Keep it going!
Thank you :)
6:49 look at the guns on Lando.
This video is awesome, best content I’ve seen in awhile
Well, for me Lando Norris's sneezes are remarkable.
Looking at this video after the first 2 races of the 2020 season. And no, Lando is on TOP of his game.
Been following the McLaren team in 2019 via their videos. Love the team and how they interact with each other
Great analysis. Hadn't noticed this and agree. Doubt a kid who's dream was to reach F1 isn't going to take it seriously. He's just brave enough to be himself. Respect for Lando. He's left himself kind of vulnerable. Protect and respect him, please. Stay safe!
0:38 hope that is his trademark celebration. Pretty cool
As someone who is a newer fan of F1 id have to agree. I liked Ricciardo instantly when I saw his personality and watching Norris embrace the meme and his streaming I grew to like him a lot as well. I am sooooo stoked they are teaming next year. In general, though there were some drivers I didn't like at all and seeing them loosen up has made change my position on them but without a doubt ill be a Norris and Ricciardo fan for a long time. Great video!
I remember finding his stream a couple years ago before I was even into Formula 1, instant fan.
Social media and the F1 Netflix show really really helped ramp up the business. I used to be passionate with F1 but got bored later on. And recently, I watched the Netflix show and now I feel more connected to the aport than ever before
I wanna see Lando Norris and the most serious no-nonsense OLD dead inside guy in (kimi raikonen?) F1 in one team.
Fast forward 2024, you got it 😭 his teammate is the most no nonsense kimi-esque on the grid now
I couldn't agree more. Lando has changed the relationship between drivers and fans in a very positive way and I personally love it.
i've just started watching f1 after seeing lots of funny videos of the drivers. There are some really cool and funny drivers in F1, like Lando, Verstappen, Riccardo, Vettel, Sainz and I have really enjoyed watching them derp around, so now i kinda feel compelled to watch them race too :D
I LOVE this video. I grew up on F1 (with my father and uncles being a fan of it) but it has always been just a sport, a cool sport but I never had an idea of the personality’s of the drivers. Until Lando. I find him to be so interesting and charismatic. 💚🧡
Who’s here after his podium
Can't wait to see the next season, Mr Smile and mr Laughter being together 🧡
It really started to change around 2019 not only with Lando but also with the help of a show called "Drive to Survive" which is also doing a great job at humanising the drivers. That and quarantine. Leclerc playing fall guys in banana costume? I'm in xD And it makes you more engaged in the sport really. Back in 2008 I knew couple of the drivers, was big fan of Alonso, Massa, Raikonnen but outside of that you really didn't even remember their faces. Right now I can say something about any of the current drivers, because they are so damn recognisable. I know how they behave, what are their interests outside F1 and what....well...drives them to still pursue their dreams. Every one of them has an unique story to tell. You can see they are more like a family to each other, especially the young generation, that actually comes from one place.
I met him a few years ago when he was racing in the toyota racing series in Nz and have been a fan since. Was so stoked when he got signed by mclaren because it was my favourite team to start with anyways. Absolutely stoked honestly
I watched F1 through my life every now and then due to my dad being a F1 fan but not really getting into it but since he joined I started following his twitch later on in the year and then all of a sudden I became a huge F1 fan and I love the sport as much as my football if it wasn’t for lando I probably won’t be as F1 fan like I am now
Great video man, I've been watching the unboxed stuff and his channel. I totally agree with you man !! I hope he has a good career in this and does really well.
I think there are two things in this... Lando himself is an amazing character. His online presence is amazing. The other part that helps in this is liberty media, which opened up the chance for Lando to also bring f1 stuff into online. My opinion only, but good timing the two met in a good period for increasing online presence of drivers
