  • I have a lot of rain barrels on my relatively small suburban homestead and I use the Harbor Freight Tools Drummond non-submersible water transfer pump to water my vegetable garden and my growing fruit tree orchard.
    In this video, I discuss the pros and cons versus the 12v DC model, which I also own, as well as how to quickly hookup the pump to get water flowing.

    Getting myself educated on these little devices. Thank you for the product review very helpful. Harbor Freight has some great things.

      Thank you. Yes they do. I’m pretty selective about the products I buy from there but so far I haven’t had any real problems. I did review a Vevor pump on my channel also, and while it’s a few dollars more ($10-$20 if I remember right) it was more powerful and robust than the Harbor Freight model. Still, this HFT one is a good choice for the money

      They do! I've got a few hand and power tools from HFT. Most have served me well :)

    Get a 1/2hp pump and bury some garden hoses and hook them up to you ground sprinklers. Then you can have a beer while watching the fruits of your labor water your garden! Just be sure to blow them out before winter. I use the same pump (1/8hp) on my 125gal fish tank. Hasn't failed me yet.

      Ha! I’m all on board with any excuse for having a beer. I actually have an underground sprinkler system I built with pvc pipe - I even have a video on the manifold I built to send the water to different sections of the garden - but I think this pump might be too powerful for it. The garden hose idea would work better

    Great video. What happens if you stop the water flow at the sprayer nozzle? Will the pump still function normally?

      It works but my concern is the pressure will build up and burst the hose so I typically try not to allow that to occur for too long. Even with some stronger pumps I have, moving from one area to another has been fine to let it run but I try to release the pressure relatively quickly

    man seems loud, wonder what the db rating is. have you tried the other pumps under same brand?

    • @HomesteadDIY
      @HomesteadDIY  2 роки тому

      It IS loud lol! I have not tried others. This one is working well, in spite of the noise, but it is a small one so that may account for a part of the ear-bleeding racket.

    can this b used in the house for your kitchen bathroom n laundry?

    • @HomesteadDIY
      @HomesteadDIY  Рік тому +1

      I don’t see why not. As long as your not allowing debris to pass through that will clog the impeller and only pumping non-corrosive liquids, it should work fine I’d think

      @@HomesteadDIY you want a diaphram pump for home use or garden use, these are just meant for moving water unimpeded.. These can't really build up pressure and will continue to run if the outlet is shut off which is bad for the pump. Diaphram pumps have built in shutoffs and can supply house pressure ( around 70-90 psi).

    Do you need to lubricate the intake before use or nah?

    • @HomesteadDIY
      @HomesteadDIY  7 місяців тому +1

      Not lubricate, but prime the pump with water otherwise if it runs dry until the water hits it could burn out the motor.

    drummond very stupid.............my just bought not too long and it has no sound when turn on and no water coming out.........I think it was overheated because it felt so hot when touch.........so what is the problem with such situation???

    • @HomesteadDIY
      @HomesteadDIY  Рік тому

      Did you prime the pump with water first? These pumps need to have water in them to start. Also, you may have something stuck in the impeller. If you use it to clear a pond for instance, if a small pebble or nut gets sucked up it can jam the impeller. In that case you need to take off the cover and clear out any blockage.

      @@HomesteadDIY I used it watering my flowers in my garden in the morning and in the evening I tried watering again but the water not pumping and the noisy sound is gone when I started turned on the on button…. usually when I turn on the on button there is a noisy sound on right??? now there is no noisy sound…. beside the Drummond felt very hot when I touch it…. so do you know what was the cause in this situation???

  • @alexthai2456
    @alexthai2456 Рік тому

    I don't like this brand because of the noise

    • @HomesteadDIY
      @HomesteadDIY  Рік тому

      Agreed, it is a noisy pump, though it gets the job done for an affordable price. If you only need to use it occasionally you can tolerate the noise. Regular use just might make it too much.
