      Where can I buy the
      sump pump Zoeller M98?
      And if I use the perforated French drain pipe does the end of the pipe grounded do I leave it open or put a cap or wrap it up with something
      Before I buried it?

    I am a diy, I decided to try the Drummond 1/2 hp. Single family home basement w/ basin & sump pump. I was considering a 1/3 Zoeller and a 1/3 everbilt sump pump. I didn't like the Liberty because it has a magnetic pump switch. Magnet in water, its bound to fail in my opinion. Drummond had a great value and its cast iron. I have had it for 2 weeks and it works great. It clears the water in one cycle in a few seconds, it's quiet and powerful. I recommend it. So far so good. I hope it lasts many years. If your wondering I don't think 1/2 hp is too much for a home. I will clean it once a year with a brush it should be fine. I shall see.

    My sump pump is a must and is needed with virtually every moderate or greater rain. I trust your expertise Chuck. Harbor freight is always a purchase that I need to give strong consideration. On tools, my opinion of Harbor Freight is that to get through a house project or two HF is a worthy buy but if it's something that I'm going to frequently use and am going to be dependent on then I'll spend a few extra bucks elsewhere. I'll try it out from what your video shows Chuck.

    Chuck I’ll tell ya buddy I hand dug a hell of a deal 3 feet deep and around my house to put in a drain I also sealed the foundation with your recommendation of sealer I’ll tell you I learned so much from your videos when I ran into a problem I had already seen you solve it. It was awesome. You saved me thousands of dollars. I had to work like a horse for about 4 days but I got it done. Thank you again I love the videos you are an inspiration for sure

    I ended up going with a Drummond 3/4 horsepower submersible sump-effluent pump to replace a failed Everbilt 1/2 horsepower pump recently...the pump is used to pump "gray" water out of a septic system. One thing I've noticed is the "tethered" float switches on effluent pumps fail quickly, usually within a year or two, sometimes less. These failed switches either cause the pump to run constantly, or not at all. The Drummond has a snap-action float switch that simply works better than the tethered floats I find on most other effluent-sump pumps. The Drummond ($199) also costs $130 less than the Everbilt which is a great price considering the pump is rated at 3/4 horsepower with 5400 GPH of outflow, compared to the 1/2 horsepower Everbilt rated at 3180 GPH outflow. The Everbilt is priced out at nearly $330 by comparison. The Drummond 3/4 HP effluent pump does an excellent job...runs relatively quietly and removes water faster than the Everbilt. The switch on the Drummond is also more reliable. Overall the Drummond pumps seem to work as well as Liberty or Zoeller, at a fraction of the cost. As a general installation tip...always drill a small hole in the outflow pipe somewhere before the check valve. I've seen pumps destroy themselves over the years from airlock situations.

    Don't forget to use the 20% off coupon when buying the HF pump! Been using the Drummond for over a year now in a sump without issue - bought a spare for the inevitable failure, but so far, so good! If you need something with a lot more kick - there's a '2HP' Hallmark pump that runs on 240v for $160 now - also been fantastic pump for me.

    Appreciate your vids. I ended up putting a French drain and a catch basin with a sump pump in my crawlspace by myself. I ended up getting a 40% off coupon from harbor freight a couple weeks ago for any drum and pump. I got the half horsepower cast iron model for $80. In my test I did it seemed to pump out pretty good. We'll see when I get a little groundwater in how it does. But for the price hard to complain. Especially since you can pick up an extra for such a cheap price. Thanks for all the insight you share, super helpful when I did my crawl space work myself.

    Nice video but I would have liked to see them tested under a load by making them lift the water by 25 feet this would tell which pumps are truly 1/3HP. The second test is how long they will last since they are all cast iron. How good is the coating that protects the iron inside and out.

    I always like to look at where I have to return a product to under these extended warranties. Harbor Freight, you just take it back to Harbor Freight, the Zoeller, you probably have to send it back to the mfg. to get it warrantied. Now, if you have a Zoeller mfg in your city, well the Zoeller would probably be the better deal.

    Good demo! I just installed a ridgid 1/3 hp in my basement. What are your thoughts on the pump?

    • @dubester1982
      @dubester1982 3 роки тому +2

      The Ridgid line are rebranded Wayne pumps. I have one of their cast iron 1/3 hp pumps, and I can share my experience. Like many pumps, the switch is the failure point, and isn't covered by the warranty. Mine went after six months, my basement flooded, which is never fun. I bought a Zoeller and also a Hydrocheck electronic float switch. It's two sensors, never needs to cleaned, has been tested over a million cycles, and a 5 year warranty. For the hell of it I left the Ridgid in the pit with the float zip tied and it's been rock solid for 18 months, Zoeller sitting on a shelf in the box. I live in New England so it gets a workout with the weather and high water table. The two sensors let you select the on and off points, and has alarms that will let you know if you've got an issue. The Levelguard switch is excellent as well, and even simpler. Peace of mind knowing the main failure point is out of the equation with any pump. The pump itself is actually very solid, and the top intake pretty much eliminates the airlock possibility. I've since installed a backup Ion pump too. flooded basements suck

    Recently bought a new house that we've since found out was built on a natural spring. We live on a wet hillside so you can imagine we need good drainage and sump pumps. I want something quiet but still a workhorse, now that it's getting drier it's time to install new pumps, in this case, what do you rec? I can't find anyone local who I feel is unbiased or who really cares about our situation. I'm talking about crawl space pumps here, not yard pumps. The yard never takes on water unfortunately the basement has in the past (from what I can tell). Any guidance will be appreciated.

    It’s really hard to compare longevity though. 90 days warranty on the Harbor Freight or 2 years for $30 more! Zoeller has 3 years warranty so it’s almost a wash. I would go Zoeller.

I want to get another Zoeller but pumps are sold out everywhere although I did see a Wayne 5yr. warranty one at Ace. I went to HF yesterday and seen the SP you were comparing and I'm intrigued. I don't know what HP my Zoeller was 1/3or 1/2 but it's in my garage right off of a 6in step up walkout basement. I've learned so much over the last few weeks so when I finally get a pump I'm going to make where I can detach it easier for cleaning and maintenance, something that was never done on the last one. Built to work out of the box, but not made to last any substantial amount of time to justify the savings in price. If you factor all the time I've personally wasted buying and then subsequently returned only to buy name brand else where, harbor freight has definitely stolen parts of my life which I will never get back

    "Vertical float". Why do they always make the vertical float so short? You know that the thing that kills electric motors is the starting surge, don't you? Why do you want your pump to run for less than 10 seconds, and when the water is really flowing into your sump, the pump has to start every 20 seconds? Stupid design...all of them. 😡
