The September 73’, and 74’ seasons definitely served as a brutal sobering reality of a man in pain, emotional, physical, and mental, at times you forget you’re even listening to a show and feel like you’re just listening to his therapy session, you can’t help but just want to give him a hug!! A longggggg rest, recuperation, and allow himself to get recentered and focused would of taken years of stress off of his life, and boosted him personally and professionally!! The only good thing that came out of that night was firing the colonel, it’s a shame within less than a week Elvis was right back under his thumb again.
I really don’t know how to describe this show. Elvis is acting similar to how he acted in September of 1974, but has more energy and his voice is better here too. He was obviously not in a great place though. I enjoyed listening to the show though.
I’ve recently learned that the first few songs on this CD are actually from the dinner show. The CD seems to improve later on, so maybe the dinner was the bad show, and the closing was just mediocre
Even he's in bad shape in this time, he's still got a bit energy and power in his voice and he still keeps on hitting the high notes, It might not be the best but it's a great performance if u ask me.
Videos of Elvis in this condition don't make me mad at all. I am proud of you for bringing these to everyone's attention. His story is not unique in that many before and after him have self-destructed, By the date of this concert many things were weighing heavily on him. Vegas boredom(hatred), the realization the colonel would never schedule a world tour, and divorce, to name a few on the long list of things. He wasn't a happy person and everyone around him knew it. To a certain extent, even his own father sold him out. Part of Elvis died after his 1972 MSG performance. Although the Via Satelite vocals were great, I don't believe either performance compared to his MSG concerts just six months prior. Do us all a favor, and keep Elvis alive, by looking and doing your very best, every time you go stage. Elvis and his fans deserve it.
Man, it’s hard to think.. just a year ago, in ‘Elvis on Tour’ he did a fantastic version, and 3-4 years ago he did perhaps his most energetic performances ever, and this song was a real good highlight! He really needed some rest :/
Elvis was ill when he was born. He was suffering from a serious immunodeficiency (CVID)that was shutting down his organs. I have the same illness and I have no energy to do anything, so I think the uppers were the only thing that allowed him to perform. Poor man. Also, Elvis was bloated because he had Cushings Disease. And you are right Matt, he was a man who needed a lot of rest. Thank you for sharing this. as Elvis said “there is the person and there is the image. An image is hard to live up too”
Hi Matt, I agree with you. He's really not into it. He's not putting any emotion or passion into it. I think he was slurring at the beginning of the song. He probably needed a bloody good sleep. Bless him. Thanks Matt xxx 💝
Actually Matt, from “2001 Theme” to “Trouble” it’s actually the Dinner Show! That’s why Elvis seems way better after he sings “Trouble”❤ The CS recording is incomplete and spliced the the DS for the beginning of the show
I've heard him sound worse, I've seen him look worse! 1973 gave us The Satellite Show!! Slim and trim, 165 pounds, and sounded spot on! And he was still with Linda! I'm sure the King would tell you it was a good year‼️🇺🇸📻🎤🎹👑
Well, considering it was the last show after a long tour and that he obviously already was "tired" of the song this dosen't surprise me, not to mention that his divorce was just around the corner so another reason for him to be stressed out. Now, saying this show is bad I don't agree with, I think it's a really funny and at the same time serious show with Elvis releasing the things that was affecting him at the time, but putting all these things in the Mario situation and releasing it in the show, it's good to mention that the dinner show from the same day was somewhat good and in the dinner show Elvis didn't said anything regarding Mario and the anger he was having, he properly decided to do a badass closing show and released the things that were affecting him masked inside of the Mario situation that I'm sure made Elvis really mad too
I've always thought there's a tendency in some corners of the elvis world for fans to act like nigh on every single thing he did was amazing. It's both not true and damaging to his legacy in my opinion. It devalues the performances that were genuinely incredible. Of which there were many because he is arguably one of the best performers of all time if not the best. Im not saying this was a good performance but it didn't strike me as being much worse than other bad performances I've heard of this song. I'm amazed he kept the see see rider/I got a woman/amen thing going all those years. Must have been so boring for him. He does seem to always genuinely delight in JDs bomb thing though.
He just sang an exhausting song b4 and was out of breath....thats all....I never heard Elvis ever sang out of a hospital bed 😮...where do you got this information from?...Elvis is singing it in a jamming style going from low to high nites...only experienced singers know that and hear that....not talented persons who are used to autotune and artificial singing will never hear nor feel music that way
I would have to disagree with you here, it's not his best version but any song that was sung at the Houston Summit '76 automatically takes the cake for being the worst performance of any given song
Who cares about this we all know ELViS was between a rock an his lying manager! The spark was gone Elvis wanted new challenges the aloha concert was the last challenge Elvis got. parker wanted money and that was it. Let's look at the good! He did way more good than he ever did bad don't we all want to be remembered in a positive light!
Couple of things. This song was a regular on the set list and I hate that it is. Elvis' shows were about an hour long and this would get milked for 5 or 6 of them, it seems. I like the song, but not the inclusion of the "amen" element. I know why Elvis does it -- to highlight JD -- but it's the same schtick every night, or twice a night. Typically, this is the second or third song in the set, so there's a very good chance that Elvis wasn't completely clear-headed yet (a good example of this is the In Concert performance where he is in fine form after the third song). But about the technical performance of this version: I like it. I like that he did something different with it because it was always the same thing every night (and sometimes twice a night). The slurred words are obvious, especially at the beginning, but some of the other stuff -- it's great to hear a different version of a song I've heard 500 times. I don't know if Elvis was yet in trouble, but I would say it was about to find him.
The whole reason he was getting pills was because he *was* sick. He had a slew of health problems. Also, he had just completed a tour which is *exhausting* for any performer. Yea he was taking prescriptions in excess but when you have no time to recuperate as a performer, pills are how you soldier through the pain.
I don't know why you picked this version out as particularly anything out of the ordinary! This song became very tedious as the years went by...with so much BS with... well well well wellwell well etc and JD Sumner on Amen... I usually skip "I got a woman" when listening to any Elvis show....but this version here , while a bit weak in intensity is nowhere near as nauseating as his later versions were, which went on for about 12 minutes...so I don't agree with you or understand your reasoning.
I don’t hear what he’s saying either. His voice is softer and he sounds slurred on some of the lyrics. What he sounds like is he’s tired as heck and let’s just get this over with.
How old is this guy about 16 or something he just hasn't got a clue about Elvis take some advice keep your mouth shut and close your site and leave it to us fans would have been there from the beginning not after he passed
Hard to imagine a 38 year old man having to work for 6 weeks before taking a 6 month vacation, the guy lived to party, work was something done quickly for money to spend. When he died he'd been on vacation for 6 week's, the sedentary lifestyle and high living is what killed him
Not sure why you are saying Elvis needed rest. This notion that he was overworked is total nonsense. Even in his busiest year Elvis worked about 110 days and rested 250 days. So saying he needed rest, considering he was only 38 at the time just baffles me. For instance....1973..Elvis does Aloha from Hawaii....two shows and spends 2 weeks in Hawaii where I am sure he relaxed as well as worked. He takes off the next 2 weeks and then does a 3 1/2 weeks in Vegas. He then rests for almost TWO months before going off on a 9 day tour on the road and 2 weeks in Lake Tahoe. He then rests another month before going off on another 9 day tour. He then rests another month before starting his 3 1/2 week residency in Vegas which lasts until September 3rd. He then is OFF for the rest of 1973. If that is overworked, we must be living in an insane world. This notion that Parker overworked Elvis has no merit to it and has become almost fact because people refuse to get up off their rear ends and do a little research. Elvis was NOT overworked.
@@johnclaba1457 I’m not a colonel hater by any means and I don’t believe he was overworked, BUT this being said, this is closing night of working a month straight, two shows a day, so anyone’s bound to wear out at that point, especially considering his health at this point
@@MattStoneAsElvis Yea I hear you. I think this is more on Elvis....the drug dependency is what wore him out....not his schedule. I have no feelings for Parker one way or the other, as well...My beef is with Elvis fans (of which I am one) in general....they just seem so misinformed and through that misinformation, have created this fake Elvis world....where Parker was the villain, and Elvis could do no wrong....when in fact reality said this: The schedule Parker laid out for Elvis was fine for ANY 38 year old man. It was Elvis wrecking his body with narcotics that made this schedule overbearing...not Parker...and here is what I will never understand. I get it that after Aloha, Elvis got into a boredom rut....ok...so why didnt he fire Parker or demand a new direction in his career? He could have fired Parker and not one court in the USA would have sided with his manager. Yet he chose just to endure as his career, after Aloha, just seemed to crater away. I truly dont get why this was Parker's fault. Parker was there to make money for Parker and Elvis and he did that very well. It was up to Elvis to guide the artistic part of his career.
Preparing to make a lot of people mad lol
Elvis is Elvis, through and through and that’s the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between!
@Little E Studios I would still take this and any of the end of 74 shows over most of 76 and 77, when he was rough in those years he was ROUGH
Sonny said Elvis was on a steady decline after the Hawaii Satilite Show. I guess this kind of shows that.
@@charlierossinc8706exactly all of you need to understand how sick he was instead of being negative and saying horrible things about him.
He’s slurring and sounds half asleep. But no missed notes. So even “bad” Elvis is better than most people’s best.
The September 73’, and 74’ seasons definitely served as a brutal sobering reality of a man in pain, emotional, physical, and mental, at times you forget you’re even listening to a show and feel like you’re just listening to his therapy session, you can’t help but just want to give him a hug!! 73 sounds stoned but 74 he's angry and revved up, not in a great way
Coked up Elvis > Stoned Elvis
Elvis changed the way he sung songs so it kept the show alive and different. Elvis will always be the best ❤❤❤
Are you crazy, kid? His voice is good, he just changed the key of the song! Nice job, fantastic show as always! Long live THE KING ELVIS!
The key didn’t change lol, it’s still in E

This was a good performance. I liked it.
In fact after "Aloha" the downhill began!

This is one of my favorite shows but this rendition of I got a woman is quite awful
Matt have ever had an off night while performing?
He's not "sick" nor needs rest, he's mixed too many narcotic pills in the midst of _"TCB"_ and glitched himself silly
The whole reason he was getting pills was because he *was* sick. He had a slew of health problems. Also, he had just completed a tour which is *exhausting* for any performer. Only losers look to knock someone as loved as Elvis. Jealous? Much? 😂😂
This kid doesn't know squat about Elvis and his style.....zip it dude
he just sounds bored xD damn.. somewhat sleepy too i guess
Def high as a kite; it’s a wonder he didn’t do a face plant & pass out cold on stage.
Not to bad. I guess you don't need a brain to post on utube.
He was very exhausted you can tell colonel parker worked him to his death pills didnt help either
Wo i said he never showed how sick he was on stage? Lol
JD sounds like a Moog Synthesizer. Wow!
Sounds like he didn’t want to sing the song 😂
Dinner shows he always came out slower. The pills & waking up drowsy most likely going on here.
He really rushed that amen part to whole shot
Does he need a rest or to just lay off the pills? I’m guessing the latter.
Click bait, Elvis sounds fine !
Compare this to any version from 1969
YOU CAN HEAR HOW IT SOUNDS LIKE HE JUST WOKE UP
Not up to par but Not that bad

He did drugs
Elvis was so sick but Parker didn't care. Elvis had to preform so he could play payroll and Parker could pay his gambling debts
