The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is a happy and loving dog breed. She makes an excellent gundog or family companion, and she suffers from comparatively few diseases. With her sense of humor and lively nature, she’s a good match for an energetic family that’s looking for a dog to be part of its daily activities.
The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon was originally used for hunting and would flush, point, and retrieve water fowl, game birds, and even hares. She's been described as the "supreme gundog" and is still actively used in this role. She also makes an excellent family companion and enjoys any kind of work. Many Griffons have been successful in agility, tracking, and obedience.

Great video, we have our first German Wirehair Pointer, and is five months old. Live in east central Minnesota. Excited to work with her and hunt ruffed grouse and pheasant with her this fall.

Just lost my boy rescued from Spain with a self healed pelvic fracture. We gave him a wonderful life in the uk in Staffordshire . He was my best friend such a wonderful dog sadly I have just had to have the poor boy put to sleep I miss that boy so much
I hunted my Griff till he was 11. He enjoyed 2 more years of retirement but we still took daily walks out in the fields. He was a trooper and and a best friend. RIP Magoo.
Not yelling at a Griff is ABSOLUTELY true. They melt. Strangest thing. But keep it in mind if you get one! One my second now, and both are the same way. : )
They are soft dogs, but that is one of their best qualities. They are always wanting to please their owners.

I have a duetch drahthaar. And she is by far the best hunting companion that I have ever had. And she is a hunting machine and loves everyone ❤❤❤❤❤

I owned one her name was Heidi, she was one of the best dogs that, I have ever owned. She was fearless and able to anything, such as agility, retrieving and was a hell of a watch dog. and had no problem holding her own in the dog park with rude dogs. I miss her and would like to have another one in my pack again.
Thanks Sir for showing your dog and your passion. I just love my Griffon there are truly a superior versatile gun dog. Just like to add Korthals was durch but the breed was completely developed in Germany. After WW1 the kennel went to France and got recognized as a French breed - a True European breed if you ask me. Anyway good hunting!
Great video, new to our family a wirehair pointer and in love with her she very active my labrador girl is very jealous of the puppy its hard to keep them both happy! Cant wait to take her hunting

I personally wish this documentary was more specifically about the actual "Wirehaired Pointing Griffon" breed and less about the particular hunter/dog owner personal interview. Their matching beards are cool! Really "SO MUCH" left unsaid. I informed my Griff puppy that she's going to have to be able to hunt all day in temperatures just less than 100 degrees and she gave me her usual head tilt. She gets hot when temps are in 70's. From what I am learning Griffs much prefer cool temperatures?

Anyone use their griffon for waterfowl? I just got a pup and wondering how to train
Anyone have any experience using these dogs hunting rabbit? - I used to have a GSP that was great on rabbit. He would point then slowly flush em. He always knew where they were from a good distance away. But he was always cold and shivering here in Wisconsin.
We have a griffon living in Ontario and he prefers weather around -10c. I’ve never seen him shiver even in -20c. His pointing is second to none, and their drive is very impressive

Haha its so conflicting seeing a dog killing a bird but happy as heck while doing it. My Boston/chihuahua mix found a headless rabbit in the yard one time & was frolicking around the yard, shaking it about...sooo happy with the treasure he found, almost as big as him...😅

Living with a hunting dog means that you need to hunt with it whenever you can. That is something that people forget. A lot of dog breeds are meant to be used for hunting or originate from hunting breeds.
Kaj Sjöqvist No it doesn’t, as long as you give it ample exercise it can lead a perfectly happy life. Our Pointer has at least two hours of full speed running a day and she was perfectly fine in our couple acre back yard. Just because you have a hunting breed doesn’t mean you need to hunt. You need to understand the energy and prey drive.

Shooting game for the pot is simply lovely. Working with a dog to flush and retrieve game is immensely satisfying and tremendous sport. Are you a vegan?

Alan Mac I don’t hear many people describing their hobbies as “satisfying”. I mean, it’s not necessarily the first word one would look for in describing sport. Very strange.
@@genesiskravitz8621 Nothing strange about it. Sitting in a duck blind or walking the uplands with a heightened sense of awareness while building a deeper connection with the land and all the wildlife is extremely satisfying. It is healthy for the soul, most of the time hunting is not about the kill. The harvest and consumption of sustainable harvested wild game is another added benefit however. Simple fact is hunting pays for conservation in the United States, I don't believe everyone needs to hunt but more should support it. I never grew up hunting nor did any of my family members, I was more in the watching nature crowd, but its benefits are many. I have found being an active member of our natural word, instead of passive, to be extremely satisfying and watching a dog that has been bred for hundreds of years to do what it is in its DNA simply can't be topped. For myself upland and duck hunting is about the connection with the land and the dog.
