You're right, the end of Black Magic Woman goes right into the beginning of Oye Como Va, and the two are forever tethered in my mind.
me too!
What I love about Santana is he let’s everyone else get their shine!
I love Santana and was lucky enough to see them in concert twice in the seventies. If you haven’t seen their Woodstock performance, you really should react to it. One of the reasons is the drummer Michael Shrieve. He was the second youngest musician there. Not to mention his drum solo was unbelievable. He went on to be a well respected percussionist, composer and drummer. His resume is very impressive.
63 year old here, but with a 20 year old ❤. Dudes, this is one of the most fantastic songs of the 60s, known the world 🌎 over. I understand that you are kids. My son is your age. Nevertheless, he grew up listening to my hero CARLOS SANTANA, and I am frigging glad you guys spent time honoring El Maestro! Our generation was not only guitars and drums. It was inspiration, revolution, and a LOT more. Smoke one, and you will understand my point! Respect to y'all!
It Leads Right Into "Oye Como Va" Another MUST HEAR Classic..Also "No One To Depend On",, "Everything Is Coming Our Way" & "Samba Pa Ti"
Like you said. This song is a cover . It's a Peter Green song, the founder of Fleetwood Mac.
This is a cover of early Peter Green era Fleetwood Mac.
Though his covers are completely latinized and unique.
Next Santana "Oye Como Va"
(Original Tito Puente)
Except the outro, which is a cover of Gypsy Queen by Gábor Szabó.
Guys, you need to find the performance that launched Santana from being a band locally known in California to a worldwide sensation. I am talking about their performance of "Soul Sacrifice" at Woodstock (1969). Santana was the ONLY band to perform at Woodstock that had never yet recorded an album. That one performance changed EVERYTHING. Search it out.
Santana recorded their debut record in May 1969. They performed at Woodstock in August of that year. The album was released two weeks after that performance.
You should definitely check out the live version of "Santana - Soul Sacrifice 1969 Woodstock Live Concierto HQ" Carlos Santana was (I believe) 22yrs. old and looked like a kid. And there's an incredible story about how Carlos was high on LSD when they performed at Woodstock. Crazy...the life of a rock star in those days must have been...Fantastical. But this performance propelled him and his band into stardom almost overnight. Nice reaction thanks for sharing🔥🎸💖🎶🤗
Santana's first album was still 2 weeks away from release the day they performed at Woodstock so nobody knew who they were... but they walked out with 400,000 new fans afterwards! Greg Rollie performed in that as well!
@@suecook1326 Neil Schon was on guitar for Soul Sacrifice and he is lead guitar for Journey
Absolutely have to check out Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock
I was so spoiled growing up with music like this. I had no idea then.
Even my mother (who was 42 when this song came out) appreciated the genius of Santana.
It’s all about Carlos. Ohhhh so smooth!
Classic!
Carlos Santada does sing on some tracks, often in duet with keyboardist singer Gregg Rolie. "Oye Como Va", "Jingo", "Evil Ways" for example. On "Just In Time To See The Sun" he sings lead parts too.
so used to oye como va playing right after
Neal Schon of Journey also got his start with Santana. Neal and Greg both founded Journey. Neal is a damn good guitarist!
Santana’s “Soul Sacrifice” at Woodstock is absolutely epic!
"Samba pa' ti" es otra maravilla de Santana.
Just in passing, 'Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac' (the original FM !) had a hit with an all instrumental called 'Albatross' which you may have heard...
My parents were awesome about being open minded about music and art, my step dad raised me in church, but he was a huge fan of the guitar legends of the 60's and 70's, Santana and Jimmy Hendricks were his 2 favorites, it didn't occur to me until recently that, that's probably the reason he didn't complain about Metallica and Ozzy, Megadeth, Slayer, Heart, blaring from my room at all hours, I think he may have become a Kirk Hammett fan over the years , I feel blessed to have been exposed to so many artists as a kid. Makes me happy to see younger people who still appreciate the art.
Lead vocals and keyboards is also fo founder of Journey with Neal Schon who also he recruited as a child teen guitar prodigy to be in Santana. This song is fire and breaks as an outro I to the intro of the Tito Puente cover by Santana of Oye Como Va. At the time Santana did Tito's cover he was not happy with their version. As time went on, he came to be more okay with it's success.
You can recognize Santana's playing with one note!
Gentlemen, if you want to hear Santana at their finest, please check out Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock, long version. You won't be disappointed. The drummer - OMG!!! Santana tells that story that he was high on acid during the performance (he thought they were playing much later in the day and would have time to recover but it didn't work out that way) so the whole time he was playing he thought the guitar was a giant snake he was wrestling with. You can see it in the video but it's amazing he didn't miss a note!
soul Sacrifice and Evil Ways ❤️❤️❤️❤️
That drummer was MIchael Shrieve. I believe he had just turned 20 years old. That performance launched Santana to worldwide fame. They were the ONLY band at Woodstock that had never released an album. That kinda changed. LOL
Ok, ive requested on several other reaction pages, OPEN INVITATION IS THE ULTIMATE SANTANA BANGER. Will literally leave you breathless.
It leads into Oye Como Va
Hey guys, good selection. Saw Santana March 18, 1981, great concert, so fun. This song has a such a groove to it. Smooth vocals, great guitar playing. Great reaction!
And yet Again more top notch music from the 70's!
" Every instrument kind of goes its own way"
Speaking of Fleetwood Mac... ✌️
I was about 7 yrs old when the Santana Abraxas album came out and used to have an older brother who was in high school. He used to get in gang trouble all the time but he was cool and used to let me hang out with him sometimes. One day he was listening to this album in his room and smoking one of his weird little cigarettes that smelled terrible and I went in to hang out. Black Magic Woman was playing. I sat on the floor and picked up this album cover and it folded out. What I saw I will remember forever. That was the first time I saw t1tties, not breasts, t1tties. They were huge and on full display. I don't know what the look on my face was but my brother began laughing. I remember being scared thinking I was about to go to Hell and didn't know what to do but my brother told me it was OK and I could look if I wanted to. It was all too much for me and I think I short circuited. I don't remember what happened after that but I do remember this song playing. This is a great album and is one of my favorites along with this song. I love this song. I have the album cover framed on my wall. It always reminds of the day a little boy picked up an album cover and entered a new world. I told my friends I had become a man... at 7 years old.
Holy Canoli, a SEVEN year old boy terrified about going to "Hell". Great job, religion.
I mean, Judaism was no bowl of cherries (I have a persecution complex that is not a lot of fun, especially when mixed with the survivor's guilt), but at least I never had to deal with that. My sympathies.
(And congratulations, lol)
Great story!
There you go, that’s Shrieve on the drums.
One of the reasons I really enjoy watching your reactions - you research and delve into the history, line-up and the complexities of both the song and the artist. Keep up the good work guys!
Oye Como Va is an awesome song! Try it!
One of my favorite Santana songs is a relatively minor hit called Open Invitation. It’s a more straightforward rocker and I hope you guys get to hear it someday.
Journey guitarist Neal Schon played guitar on 2 Santana albums, then he and Gregg Rolie formed Journey. In 2016, Neal Schon & Gregg Rolie played on Santana's 24th album Santana IV.
First song I ever played professionally. Good memories, thanks. Now some Foghat. Driving Wheel.
Funny that you would mention Gilmour. I was just thinking how emotional Santana's guitar sounded, and how it reminded me of the ease with which Gilmour plays on our emotions. And here you are saying essentially the same thing! Great minds... ;-]
Their Tanglewood concert is fire!!
Santana sang early in his career. I saw a video of their performance at Woodstock. He sang there.
The Godfather of Latin Rock. What a masterpiece!!
5:09 you three are bopping your heads in rythm to this beat..So cool 😎✌🏽
Devil Woman from Cliff Richard could fit the Halloween vibe. It’s definitely a catchy pop song released in 1976.
Black Magic Woman" is a song written by British musician Peter Green, which first appeared as a single for his band Fleetwood Mac in 1968. ( British As usual. ) The original Fleetwood Mac were British., the two original British members , Mick Fleetwood and John McVie are still with the Band today, hence the name Fleetwood Mac, Peter Green suggested the name after he left the Band. 👍
I think this song is best described as an oxymoron: Mellow intestity... it's smooth but rough. It just went places you didn't expect.
GOT A BLACK MAGIC MARKER!
A MUST HEAR Classic By Jorge Santana's Group (R.I.P...Carlos Younger Brother) Malo "Suavecito"..TRUST ME!!
Yup
Love this song - takes me way back. You are right, Santana is ageless! Thanks so much for posting and for your reactions - fun to watch you guys bobbing back and forth to the smooth, cool beat.
Hey, y'all this is a pretty good cover. I remember when it came out. I was working at Tape Hut on Preston Hwy., in Okolona. We had a stereo room and this was cranked up most of the time.
On another note, a very excellent cover of Peter Green's original is done by The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band Live, With Rick Vito on guitar and vocals.
Oh forgot to mention... contrary to the album cover the Magic Woman was not Black. She did Black Magic.
Probably my favourite cover of any song, I don't really compare the two as they are 2 different songs to me so I can enjoy both equally (well nearly equally, the original is still my favourite)
One of my favorites!
Btw the ending is Gypsy womanly Gabor Szabo a jazz guitarist.
You’re right about the personality of Santana’s guitar playing. There are a few that you recognise immediately because of the distinctive quality of their tone and technique, and he’s very much one of them. Knopfler is another, you should react to Telegraph Road or Sultans of Swing ( the Alchemy live versions) or Your Latest Trick, the latter if you want Ryan to swoon.
The lead singer/organ/keyboardist is the same one as the one on Journey when you did Feeling That Way/Anytime.
Good to know THANKS
First, the weird thing is - i was listening to The Best of Santana this afternoon after work running errands... I thought of you doing this song. Here you go... Second, The anticipation... 😂 Each time i came on it got delayed a half hour. So i will join in tomorrow.
Had some issues with UA-cam yesterday! We wanted to put this one out sooner!
Thanks guys...
Not only Greg Rolle, but a young Neal Schon. Who was the lead guitarist of Journey.
This song is a masterpiece !
I also like I'm winning such a different Santana sound!
Live version of Batuka/No one to Depend on and Mirage are great too
Lynda from rural Maine, love ❤ you guys. Thanks for keeping me young.
I had the Abraxas album in 1973, played it to death, with headphones of course.
I'm so pissed! I had brain tumor surgery and it took my hearing on my right side.. music will never be as good again...fukkin sux! I'm 78 and lived thru the best of genres! Until 1998! Damned Tumor! Still enjoying what I can hear. But it. never will be quite as good...
Hands down, Carlos was the best concert I have ever been to. Gregg Rolie was one of the founders of the band. Went into the R and R HOF with all of the original Santana lineup.
The bass player is very talented and Carlos is of course. 😊
I took this record from my brothers' bedroom, back in the day, and "forgot" to return it, I still have it in my collection.
Air guitar intro.... yes I did
Highly recommend Santana Europa reaction....no lyrics but instrumental lyrical.....meaning its a vibe song...A Must do
The singer is gregg rollie you heard in journey the keyboards
Greg is a great musician and has traveled with Ringo Star’s All Star Review. The song was done in the 1960’s and the original Peter Greenes’ Fleetwood Mac!
Sheila E got her start with Santana as well. Then Prince saw her and encouraged her to go solo
Check out how different The Santana guitar tone is from the first album. He started using Mesa/Boogie amps which had just became available.
the whole album is something you have to listen to. I once smoked a joint while I was driving listening to the album, must played a few times that night got lost getting home, that was about 35 years ago
😂😂😂😂 been there, on the scenic drive!
The Lead Guitarist of the band Journey Neal Schon was the rhythm guitarist in Santana along with Keyboardist Gregg rolie
Great choice! I thought when you Santana speaks with his guitar we’d cut to Family Guy cartoon of Santana ordering subs at an Italian delicatessen😄
Queen just released a new song, with Freddie singing. It's kinda lost song they found from 1988, and released it last week. It's already number 1in 22 countries. Called "Face it alone ". Can you react to it?
Not only is Carlos killing it on guitar, but David Brown on bass is ridiculous
Next song is “Oye Como Va”. Even more of a Latin Vibe in my opinion. Think you would even like it more.
Journey's guitarist Neal Schon played on the two albums after Abraxas.
If you like this feeling, listen to anything by Buena Vista Social Club.
They are an amazing traditional Cuban musical group - I don't have a clue what they are singing, but it sounds exquisite.
This is a Santana staple almost always played in concert and there are many versions of it. I think I'm partial to the version found on the Moonflower album. Part of that album is live, and part is studio. It's Santana in peak form. The album that follows Abraxas needs to be heard too. It has an actual name but everyone just refers to it as Santana III. Just start with the first track and keep going. You'll thank me later.
Yeah, as I've written, I can't imagine why the label thought they needed another singer for Journey, since Gregg was on the radio singing this (and the other Santana songs) CONSTANTLY. But then Journey sold about ten trillion albums with Steve Perry, so what do I know?
And yes, once upon a time, Fleetwood Mac was a purely British group (that had about as much luck with guitarists as Spinal Tap did with drummers), before they moved to America and (later) added Buckingham and Nicks. Peter Green was a fine guitarist and songwriter. You could listen to his version of this as a comparison, or try some of the other early Fleetwood Mac hits, such as "Oh Well".
And if you think THIS is cool, dig out the footage of Santana at Woodstock. They go even further than this.
Greg Rollie on keyboards and vocals, and a very young Neal Schon on rhythm guitar. Two great musicians who would leave Santana to form Journey...
Santana Europa
The 1st guitar solid is played by 19yesr old Neal Schon (Journey)
Listen to the album. Oye Como Va is one of my favorites. And you can hear it in a scene of The Big Labowski. Hilarious.
Great musician! Great great song! Enjoy your channel! Keep it going! One of the best in my opinion! I’m a pro musician singer songwriter! For real. I dig your love for music as a musician we pray a song will become iconic. Thank you for being such so objective! 🙂🤗🦃🎸☀️🌵🇺🇸🙏
You should have done the live version from Tanglewood 1970 which is fantastic.
I'd love you to review Peter Green playing and singing Black Magic Woman - I think you'd get a lot from listening to the original - there's a place for both
i recommend you react to
Santana - Oye Como Va (Audio)
My Favorite! New sub+1 from Chile
_____________________________________
Okay guys, read the title again! It is TWO songs…that finish is Gypsy Queen, which is also a cover by Hungarian guitarist Gabor Szabo……!!!!
Brilliant again.
He sings Oye como va
PLEASE REACT TO :
*SANTANA - OYE COMO VA (AUDIO)*
same album
Oye Como Va is the next song that follows.
Black-light posters, incense, weed and Santana!
Gypsy Queen I mean - late night brain cramp
I'm sure you know this by the time you see this, but they were also at Woodstock. Soul Sacrifice.
Watch Santana at Woodstock he sings Evil Ways, and supposedly he was stoned on something, mescaline, I think
Neil schoon guitarist for journey was also in Santana
No tengo a nadie, fabulosa rola
That's "Zatanna" lol. Wikipedia says she first appeared in Hawkman #64, from 1964, so she was not actually named for the band.
502' dudes oh you need to listen Santana "song of the wind"smooth Latin jazz thanks peace be safe johnny
They need more 60's & 70's Santana first before immediately jumping to the 90's pop album.
Jingo,
Oye Como Va
Ha, my bad, I thought you were suggesting their 99 hit with Rob Thomas " Smooth" 😆
Forgive me your suggesting was fine .🙂
Zatanna Zatara made her first appearance in Hawkman #4 (November 1964). I don't think there is a connection.
🙏❤🌹Dave🌹❤🙏
