Riding The BIGGEST V-TWIN (20yrs ago...) - Honda VTX1800

  • After sitting for 10-15 years we finished sorting out our low mileage VTX1800 and take it on it's first ride. When released, the VTX1800 was the largest v-twin in the world. Even today, with over 100 hp and 120 lb/ft of torque, this VTX still has more hp and torque than a new Harley with the Milwaukee eight.
To get this far we had to clean the entire fuel system including the tank, fuel lines, fuel pump, and injectors. We replaced all the fluids and then fired it right up....after spending an untold number of hours polishing chrome. Lots of chrome...
Be sure to go back and watch all the videos that got us here and tune in next time for the new project reveal!

4:24 Actually, the front brakes are 3 piston calipers. The middle piston is linked to the rear brake pedal. When used correctly, you'll stop the beast on a dime. Awesome bike!

I had the 2003 1800 C in Champaign color with factory tribal over that. it was a really good bike until I did an air charger air cleaner, Vance and Hines slash cut exhaust, and a power commander and had it dyno tuned.. then it became legendary, 125hp 150 ft lbs. of torque.. those brakes are hands down the best you can get.... stop on a dime and give you 9 cents change.. the torque was next level.. and it would walk away from any other v twin made easily.. the only bike I actually regret selling and I build custom choppers and even now you would be hard pressed to find another factory bike that can keep up// every other oil change I put new tires and foot pegs on it.. those tires didn't have any chicken strips on them because you can throw that bike to either side until metal parts were being ground of.. I honestly believe it is the best v twin ever made.. congratulations and enjoy

That's awesome man. I remember watching your fuel pump video. Your the reason I was able to save like huge $$$ on fuel pump repair on my 07 1800. You did good on your 05.

Just discovered your channel and this series. I subscribed and watched all the VTX episodes in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed them. What a transformation! I own an ‘03 VTX 1800c and learned a lot that’ll come in handy when I work on it. You’ve got some crazy good skills! Thanks for the all the info.

I recently bought an 02 VTX 1800c. After riding my suzuki Boulevard C50 (800cc) for the past 5-6 years I finally decided it's time for a bike with more power, and holy shit does this monster deliver on that! As you could probably imagine, owning the same bike for a good few years or more tends to give it some sentimental value, but all it took was one ride on this badass bike and all my love for my Suzuki went straight out the window (or my helmet I suppose, lol).
What I don't understand is why on God's green earth did Honda STOP making this bike?!?! It's a full on V-Twin Muscle powerhouse, and yet is also very reliable and insanely cheap when it comes to the amount of horsepower you are getting. My VTX only has 20k miles on it and I have no doubt that it will easily live to see another 80k-100k, but if Honda ever decided to bring this bike back to life, I'd be buying a new one in a heartbeat. These things are pure bliss for your soul.

Hey man, I rebuild and resale old bikes. But I’ve always dealt with carburetors, never fuel injected. This was a very informative series on fuel injected motorcycles. Thanks for making this. I’ll try and tackle an injected bike now

It baffles my mind when I see such a fine cruiser with such low miles. I do a minimum of 500 miles a week on my combo of Honda ST1100 and Kawasaki Concour1000. I just spotted a 2002 VTX 1800 for sale near me with 27K miles for $4000. It is fully geared out with very cool bags and windshield and a sissy bar. No Vance and Hines unfortunately, I love that sound. Need to sell one or both of my current rides to make it happen. Hard to be patient when the bike I have been wanting is available and I don't have the cash on hand.

oh man you got the brake system wrong! The dual disc calipers in the front are three cylinder and one of those front cylinders in each caliper plus the rear caliper is controlled by the foot brake. The hand brake controls the remaining cylinders in the front dual brakes. The main reason I bought this bike because it can stop rapidly for its weight, impressed me so much I bought the bike.
