Hi Nigel, I have been watching all of your spitfire IX 1/24 scale build over and over again both from the point of view of enjoyment but also helping me navigate my our spit. After some 7 weeks I completed this tonight and delighted with my first model for over 40 years and feel your videos have both inspired me and been a valuable guide. I’ll probably have a rest for a few months then look at my next challenge. Thanks Richard
That's great to hear Richard, this is exactly why I make these videos and go into so much detail.
The end result is amazing 😍 I really like the engine. The subtle pre shading under the camo is awesome. Excellent video build series 👍👍👍
Thank you so much 😀
Very well done Nigel 👍👍👍
Nice clean building, museum quality!
Wonderful! Torquay military museum is building up its collection.
Excellent! Well worth waiting for each segment. Guess I'll have to build my own now!
Amazing job again Mr. Nigel!!
Beautiful build..done the kit real justice
Beautiful build Nigel 👏
Beautiful Spit Nigel. Agree with you that the 'As New' look is better.
Beautiful! Really enjoyed it. 👍♥️
Stunning mate.
Outstanding clean work.
God brother, Ive been modeling for over 60 years and I learned a ton from these 20 vids. Thank you for sharing. I'm working on a 1/32 Tamiya Corsair and having a ball. The one main thing I need to learn from you ? Patience .... 69yo and its still a challenge for some of us. lol
It's funny that I made a comment on a brother modellers channel on the same aircraft that it looks so good under paint and decals, that you feel the same and are leaving it pristine. I thoroughly endorse your decision. Lovely work Nigel and a thoroughly enjoyable build. For the panels, I would try a tiny spot of Blue Tac on each one. That should hold them.
Beautiful
Hi Nigel you have done the rest of us a great service that have bought the takom ah-64 d or e you have exposed these problems bad instructions bad decals and so on I have roughly 150 US dollar in this kit with aftermarket and I need to buy decals I think takom needs to a acknowledge these ridiculous mistakes and then make it right!! Thank you for bringing this to light in my case before I started building it
I would happily work with Takom to get things better.. I mean really.. fitting little grab handles and stuff before even fitting the sponsons??
That would be great takom and others would benefit greatly if they reached out to you with your wealth of knowledge and expertise I was so excited to finally get to do an Apache I watched 3 reviews and they all said this appeared to be a great kit I guess you don’t know until you get into the build thanks again Nigel
Great job!
A great build Nigel. You again took a plastic kit and brought it to life. Thank you for taking the time to educate us as you worked through the 20 episodes. 55:05
Well done sir 👍👍👍
Spitfire is gorgeous Nigel
A model to be proud of Nigel. Thanks for highlighting the pitfalls to look out for. This non-weathered piece ought to really stand out on a shelf full of weathered models. If I were to put it in a diorama, it would have 1/24 scale figures looking at it in a museum setting. 😊
Knocked it out of the park again Nige, I bet the photos don't do justice fantastic finish
Thank you Andrew
Congratulations on a job well done! She is museum quality.
I think you need to look at more models....
Nigel, What a lovely end product. You did a beautiful job. Thank you.
Super! Looking forward to building one of these after I research the purchase and use of magnets 😊
Stunning!
Thanks Steve!!
Beautiful job Nigel, looking forward to your Havoc build. Cheers mate!!
Looks great 👍
That’s one cracking build Nigel
Nicely done, she looks like she's fresh out of the Spitfire Factory..
She's a marvellous bird and a credit to you Nige, got mine in my stash and I'm really going to have to get her on the bench.
Thanks Phillip.
What a great job. We are fortunate to have you share your talents, knowledge and thoughts. Well done Nigel.
What a belter Nige. Beautiful work! And lovely to see an un-weathered one for a change.
Thanks Phil
Great video my friend the spitfire is stunning really like the museum finish I agree the decals are amazing and really transform the build really enjoyed following you build it and learned plenty along the way thanks so much for sharing these amazing videos 👍👍
Excellent build, Nigel.I'm itching to get going with mine, and will rewatch all 20 episodes to remind me of your work. Thank you for sharing, and inspiring.
Great build, congrats Nigel 🎯
Thats cuffing lovely Nige.
Beautiful work Nigel. Thank you for taking us through your build process. Always appreciated.
Dear Nigel,
That is a super finish- absolutely magnificent!
The alloy was called “inconel” and I must credit Finsbury for knowing this!!
Kindest regards,
Z
Looks great and it is great to see you finishing it.
Another exceptional build Nigel. Your Stuka was so good I went out and bought the Border Models Kit. Haven't built it yet but I will be using your videos as references. Thanks for sharing your work.
She's a stunner Nigel! 👍
I hope you find a museum to have her displayed within... That is an amazing build, and it deserves to be seen by everyone at a suitable military aviation museum! 🙂
It's been a great build series; many thanks for taking us along for the ride. 😉 🙂
As it happens, it is going to Wendy as she loves it and I know she'll look after it.
Another work of art. Excellent work Nigel
Absolutely brilliant build, now if only Airfix would do the same for a 1/24 Hawker Hurricane !
I'm sure it wont be long...
STUNNING Mate👌👍🫡👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏, don't think Jess will be too happy you used her blankie though😏😬
That was on old towel of mine Brendon.. If i used Jess' blankie the Spit would have a fur coat lol.
@@NigelsModellingBench 🤣🤣🤣,I know what you mean mate, I have 2 Huskeys🙈😬
You have created a work of art and I have enjoyed watching the 20 episodes of the build. I only wish that I could emulate the quality of the build on my own model.
Of course you can.. it just takes practice.
Lovely model Nigel, I followed your build of this Spitfire as I build the same kit, your videos were invaluable to me saving me making so many mistakes. I have learned so much so a really big thank you for having such a great and informative channel.
Hi Nigel - Enjoyed watching this whole build (It would make a fantanstic displace or historical diorama)...👍
Hi Nigel, the Spitfire is absolutely outstanding, you have done a brilliant job, well done, very best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia 👍👍👍👌
Congratulations on the finished kit, It looks excellent and The series has been great! Thanks for posting.
Found this one the minute it got online, and again enjoyed your build! It’s beautiful!
Top job on each part of this one, Nigel!
Really enjoyed watching the build
Thanks Alistair.
Great build, as usual. Have one in my stash got from Santa
Awesome! Thank you!
Thank you Nigel for the best build series on the Airfix Spitfire.
I have been taken my time working on three kits so that refinements/modifications can be made as well as waiting
to gain aftermarket parts. Ordered the Airscale cockpit detail, Sutton harness, placard and data plates as well as
Anyz resin line/spark plug kits. One model will be a George Beurling KH B using the EagleCals decals.
All three of the kits have the fuselage molding of the rivets done without the problem you had.
The small criticism I have to add; the lack of further engine bay plumbing info that could have been in the instructions to aid the modeler that would not have raised the price of the kit. Maybe there will be a aftermarket set for that.
Sounds like you're building a beauty there John. Thank you so much for your very kind words.
Good call on the weathering👍
Quite stunning. Truly a work of art. Congratulations. Really enjoy your videos. Thanks.
Thank you Peter
Nice to see this one get across the finish line, she looks lovely mate! Nice job and sure someone will take you up on your offer to put it on display.
Another great build Nigel! Great series 👏
You were right about not weathering your build, looks fantastic as it is, I'm not a big fan of over weathered aircraft myself.
Superb! You’ve done a wonderful job with a great kit. And I like that you’ve not weathered it, it’s great to see a Spit in almost factory condition!
Thanks Jim.. glad you like it.
Lovely build Nigel 👌👍
I’m sure with your artistic, modelling expertise you could scratch build up a diorama base 👍
hi nigel been waiting for this video will comment later when ive watched it a few times thanks nige
It looks fantastic, great series!
I remember my brother 3o odd years ago a the point off completing the original 1/24 Spitfire there was some of the gun covers just would not fit properly he lost his patience with it and use it for target practice with his air rifle witch was a shame Because of the work he put in it. 2 days later he bought another one. Revel kits I have issues with. Anyway really enjoyed watching this build. Ttfn
I could have launched this one a couple of times....
Nice build.
Lovely work as per normal Nige! I agree about the undercarrage, it was the only thing that I stuggled with doing this otherwise lovely kit. I've really enjoyed watching this series of Videos mate. Thanks for all your hard work.
Really nice camo job Nigel, looks fantastic my friend keep up the great work .
Kind words indeed. Thank you.
Lovely build Nigel, like most of your work. How about that little museum that Zinzan posted a video about recently?
I'm afraid it's gone to Wendy now. Maybe I'll donate another Spit to them?
good effort Nigel maybe antenna wire
I dont think the MkIX had an antenna wire buddy??
🍻👍
Hiya Nigel.. I've watched a couple of YT videos of people making this kit, and you're the first to (correctly judging from the pictures) mention the wheel flat spots being wrong. It looks like the model was designed with the fuselage parallel to the ground as it would be if the aircraft were at speed, taking off or landing. However the majority of modellers would I think chose a static pose with the tail down so the flat spot if stuck in that position would be entirely wrong.
Caveat: You made this video about a year ago and the other videos I've seen are newer. Perhaps Airfix realised their mistake and retooled a later version with the flat spot in the right place?
Yeah, even the magazine built model has the flat spots in fresh air.
Another model finished stunningly, I have to ask though, what happened to the rotary-drum ammo feeders for the Hispanos, didn't the doors fit over them?
I explained the situation with the ammo feeders in this video. They pop in and out.
Looks very very nice! Nigel. I'm doing the 1/24 Airfix Harrier Gr3, wish me luck!! Any advice? Well done great video.😊
Never done that one buddy, I should really because I used to make major components for the engines for them.
Beautiful kit, and beautifully made! It would be wasted on me, so im building Revell 1/32 Spitfire, all good so far! What are your thoughts on chipping, ie hairspray method or fine brush application? Thanks.👍
Hairspray buddy.
@@NigelsModellingBench thank you Nigel.
Lovely job, she is looking fantastic!
I'm a lot further back with mine, can I pick your brain? I'm having a trial fit of the engine and it's cradle, everything is exactly as per instructions but the whole thing seems to want to sit about 3-4 mm left of centre as viewed from behind. Did you have any fit issues to work around? Best wishes to Jess!
Hi Jason. I seem to remember the upper holes were tight and required a little force to get them in. I didn’t ever glue the engine bearer into the airframe!!
@@NigelsModellingBench oooos!! I've found the problem, the upper legs of the engine bearer were a bit tight, but the lower ones on mine seemed quite a loose fit. So I used a drop of CA to hold them, the starboard one must have crept out a bit as it dried as it is now a couple of mm out of the bulkhead. So the whole assembly leans to the left!!! Big newbie error!!
Great model Nigel. Still love the camo. I think you were right to keep it unweathered.
Glad you like it Wendy.. would you like to own it?
What do you do with all your finished models
Place them on a horizontal surface somewhere around the house.
I know that people get very uptight when I criticise over weathering, but the chaps who did the fighting insisted on their aeroplanes being in tip-top condition. It's only when the plane is down-rated to a secondary task that they start to get beat up. We also need to realise that the average fighting life of a spitfire is less than 50 hrs.
I just think it looks lovely and crisp and didn't want to dirty it up.
That's not remotely factual. All you have to do is look at pictures. Combat aircraft were just like anything being used constantly. Weapons clean, glass clean, maintenance consistent to included guns. Everything else didn't matter. You can literally see that in pictures. Look at ground crew loading the mgs or cannons? They don't care about anything but the weapons and ammo. And it got worse depending on where aircraft were stationed at. Forward air bases all had dirt airstrips. Raining, sun, dust all played parts in wearing out and dirtying up the aircraft. You can't look at museum aircraft and think that's the way they looked. Reality is completely different
You mentioned using flat clear. I tried to used (airbrushed) AK flat clear recently and it left a horrible white film over everything! I went back and repainted and its "ok" but really close to a complete failure. I thinned the AK flat clear with Mr Leveling Thinner. I have some Tamiya flat clear that want to try but I'm obviously gun shy.
I use AK super matt straight from the bottle.
I've noticed that with AK matt, but I find it vanishes as it cures fully.
I have original Alclads and new no difference whatsoever IMHO..pipetts and airbrush only..never try to pour it it's basically fines in thinner..dont hang about spraying and thin coats till satisfied. Some of their metallics but not all have always had very little "pigment"...always been the same with those Nige, And aqua gloss on top that's always been the script.
Thanks Hugh, I have never had a problem pouring the old Alclad bottles, it seems the neck on these catches the pigment? I always use Aqua Gloss on metallic finishes that I want to stay like chrome, look at all my U/C legs for example. I have also played with using different gloss colours under the Alclad to achieve a different look. I found this manifold colour to be the worst of all for the minimum amount of pigment...
@@NigelsModellingBench Never decanted it myself Nige..waste of paint always just use a pipette...suppose mig are skimping to make cash..Ikept my old alcad bottles and just topped them up. Onyhoos a very nice build end of days..well done.
Heating tubes to stop the guns freezing.
Yep.. isn't that what I said?? If not, it proves I'm losing the plot!!
I know people have been raving about this model with its new mould video# etc bu5 it just looks like a typical airfix model good but never excellent.
really oh ok just an antenna post then ?🤔
It has an antenna post...lol
