Can't say enough about your calm and comforting energy that you have with your dogs, Bodie was amazing with you. Thanks for another great grooming video.
Thank you so much!! I just groomed our dachshund for the first time following your instructions. As you suggested, watching it without the sound helped keep him calm. He’s a sweet boy we rescued a few years ago, and he got so scruffy after our groomer moved. There’s a looooong waiting list bc we have a groomer shortage in our town, but he gets matted hair behind his ears SO quickly if it’s not groomed - so I knew I’d need to learn myself. I was so freaking nervous. I watched done other videos, but you’re the only one I found that was so calm and REALLY focused on building trust with the pupper. I have nerve damage in my hands and am always so scared I’ll cut my pups, so I appreciate you explaining exactly how to place your other hand and how to safely trim ears. He’s not perfectly groomed, and I know I’m going to need a lot of practice. But it wasn’t a traumatic experience for either of us, and I feel like I can really do this! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
This was a perfect example of how to groom a dog without shaving it all down like so many groomings out there! Thank you Amy for doing this demonstration and Bode is just GORGIOUS!!! I really appreciate the tips that you gave us, particularly the one when you put your left hand underneath the head to hold it away and to prevent him from reaching his paw when you were scissoring it! Great tip! By the way, would it be possible for you to do a similar demonstration on a Cocker Spaniel??? I started to groom my boy at home in the last year and watching your videos have helped me a lot as I am far from being a professional groomer! I'm just a pet mom who wants to keep her boy looking good! New member here Amy! - Cheers from Quebec!
I put my towels underdog for drying too!. I'm learning so much from you. My daughter Is certified groomer, but impatient with teaching me! You are a Great teacher. So glad I found you!!
Yay! This is the moment I have been waiting for. I have been searching UA-cam for an up to date dachshund grooming tutorial with no luck and finally one has arrived. Thank you Go Groomer! 😂
I am so glad I found your channel, Heidi is the first long-haired Daschund I have had. Previously the four other Daschund I had with shorthaired so this is all new to me. I am trying to learn how to do this as I can’t seem to find a groomer in my area that doesn’t totally take all her hair off. Sure wish you were in my area. Thanks for taking the task of showing us the correct way. I will continue to watch this one over and over again as I am in the green stages of doing this.
You my friend are absolutely fabulous for sharing this!! I’m a first time viewer and I will definitely be following you and your videos. Thank you!!!!!!
Great Video. I learned to groom my elderly soft coated wheaten terrier when he became too stressed at the groomers. Now my daughter has a miniature long haired dachshund. She wants me to groom her. Obviously, it's a much different grooming routine. Winnie is almost 2 years old. Her hair is VERY fluffy around all 4 hips - just big puffs of hair. I 'want' to thin it out a bit, but I'm afraid to. What would you suggest?
Loved your tutorial 💕 We have 4 long haired Daxie’s (in South Africa that’s a cute name we use). I now groom them myself at home and appreciate your instructions. I’m especially impressed by the towel! It looks like a Chamois leather?
OMG this was so helpful to me as a dachshund breeder. Thank you! I literally paused every few seconds and wrote everything down haha. I will be referring to this often.
I was recommended this account and it looks awesome. She has so many videos and she is so knowledgeable, I was expecting to find a video about hairless dogs and how to take care of their skin, but I can't find any. Does she have a video about hairless dogs?
Great video! I just rescued a long haired miniature chi weenie. I have never groomed one before and I’m nervous. I’ve only had her for 5 months so have been waiting so she can acclimate to us ,and our home. She has a lot of long fuzzy/ fluffy hair on her hind legs near her butt so I’m not sure if that should come off or left on and trimmed?
I'm going to ask what might be a silly question, but I'm a newbie when it comes to trying to be a home groomer. My question: Are the coats of Long-haired Dachshunds and Long-haired Chihuahuas pretty close to the same? Would the methods here work the same or is there a difference that would require different methods? Thanks for all you do, Amy.
Love your video, so much tip. I wanted to home groom my long-haired chihuahuas . Looking up and down for grooming video, only yours shared the best. I still facing problems with my chi lower back fur… it use to be smooth straight layer .. but now it have this curvie and “layered hump” texture. Dunno what’s the problem. (If only I could share you a pic, hoping you can help me with that.
@@GoGroomer thank you. I will try again. It’s kind like a lot of “wave” down the lower back. Maybe a few months back I trim a bit down that area .. causing this..
@@GoGroomer Thank You!! I have argued about it being used from day one and because I'm a rookie they don't listen. It isn't safe for birds because it removes oil from the feathers so they are no longer waterproof. It cases burns in the eyes on birds. I am the only bather who refuses to use it on a single dog. I say change your soap if you need to grab a Proctor and Gamble product at a "professional" grooming salon.
Thank you for this! I learned that my dachshund mix is more dachshund than I thought! Even down to the "pants"! Lol. I had trimmed those because it just looked like so much hair but now I will consider letting them grow back. I bought some pet thinning shears from t.j Maxx yesterday. And I was really anxious to start to trim his hair but I did not properly wash him first, I am so sorry 🤭🤭🤭 I am a truck driver and it's not that convenient for me to give a dog a bath but I couldn't help myself and I started trimming away while using a variety of brushes and combs and I'm so proud of how he looks. And thank you for opening my eyes and letting me realize how much I could actually trim off of him. I thought I was going to take away what made him "him" if I started trimming the really cute crimped hair around his ears and I definitely knew that his flag tail tail was off limits so thank you for confirming that. And he had a little bit of hair on his paws. I kind of need to go in between his paw pads. I don't have my pet shaver with me on the road. And then when I was done I cleaned both my dog's ears, my other dog is a Chihuahua mix. I have been meaning to do that for a while. I really enjoyed trimming him up. It felt like a good bonding time. Thanks so much for this video😊
Thank you for another great video! Just one question, when cutting off fur from the entrance of the ear, would it not leave the ear too open for like insects or a grass seed to enter?
Take aways: stop using scissors, make much more use of blending scissors. Keep brushing and checking for evenness. Keep touching dog to make sure she is comfortable and knows you're in it with her. Thanks for this. My doxy is terrified of the groomers and we've had to take on her grooming ourselves. The first time I did it, she looked absolutely awful, and my family still won't let me live it down.
Even as a professional, I evaluate my grooms afterwards to look for areas of improvement. Look at your finished groom and assess where improvement is needed, then implement that in the next groom. That’s how to improve 🙌
She's just commenting about where you were going to use the face towel from the bath to later on in the groom which you asked just after the bath. I myself use bath mats on my table, my havanese are so hairy and the water they collect just soaks through everything and I do use a absorbing towel too. Ah, the joys of full coated havanese🥰
What a sweetheart Body is!!! It makes my heart so happy to see how gentle you are with him.
Your voice is so calming, and I’m sure all your furry customers feel reassured by it, along with your gentle touch. Thank you for this!

I would love to make a new cocker spaniel video. I have to find one around here, not a lot to choose from here.
@@GoGroomer 🥰🥰💕

Bodie is so cool. I have seen him play with Otter and they are great together.
Beautiful! I will treasure this video and use it for reference. Thank you so much for sharing this video and information. Thank you for your help

Thank you this help with tiding up and doing sanitary trim how to comb I am going to watch this a couple more times

one question on something i wasnt clear on; the 'U' that you trim on the underline, is that curved up, or down more like an n?
That’s awesome! I’m glad to help! Such a wonderful dog breed. 💖
From the back foot toe, up toward the last rid and down toward the chest under hair. Suttle.

I love him…a sweet boy. What are the adjustable clippers you use? And the feet clipper?
He is cool! Everything is linked in the description of the video for your convenience.

Is there a less-expensive alternative to the sapphire grooming shear?
Kenchii love

This groom would cost around $50.00.
Is that a Les Pooch Gold slicker you used in the tub?
Yes indeed

I’m not sure if I understand but I suggest when you dry your pup, try to straighten the coat to lay flat. 🙌

I like the adjustable clipper metal blade clippers. Send info please
Would you use dawn dish soap on your dogs?
Never, it will over dry out the skin and cause dry flaky, itchy skin.

Use towel on table as you finish drying and do nail trimming etc
You guessed it!

My svissors got damaged. Ii need to buy new sets. What brand do you recommend? I am in Scotland.
They can be readjusted by a dog grooming, share sharpening service.
Thank you for another great video! Just one question, when cutting off fur from the entrance of the ear, would it not leave the ear too open for like insects or a grass seed to enter?
Not an issue to worry about 😊
I do that with the towel as well.
