I love Jacksonville Florida❤ I have lived here for 5 years and Jacksonville keeps getting better and better. After living in multiple areas in Jax I have figured it out. Like most large cities there are good areas and bad areas. Jax is a huge massive city land wise. I would say 40% of Jax is low income high, crime, and neglected "Bad" areas. These are near downtown on the Westside, Downtown on the eastside north of stadium, alot of east arlington, near St Nicholas... These areas are lower income or economically disadvantaged. Generally speaking the majority of the entire west side of jacksonville is lower income or lower middle class. Where is the best places to live then? If your family is making near or over 6 figures you would enjoy buying in a middle to upper middle class area you should consider Bartram, Communities in St Johns County, Mandarin, The Beaches Jax Beach, Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, Ponte vedra Beach, Generally anything East of 295 beltway toward the beach.
This was a great trip down Memory Lane for me. I was raised in Jax, born in 1967 and lived there until the early 90s, and stayed at my grandmother's at lot, which was in Murray Hill on the corner of Post & Nelson. I would walk down the back streets to the Dreamette and then on to the public library which was near the movie theater. Did you try the Metro Diner in San Marco? It's the first one of the franchise, and was featured on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives (Guy Fieri). I went to junior high at Landon, and after band practice we would walk down Hendricks Ave and go to the chocolatier, Peterbrooke. It was started by a local woman and named after her two children. My dad was in the Coast Guard, stationed in Mayport, so I grew up riding the ferry back and forth. If you ever return, check out the Timucuan Preserve at Kingsley Plantation, and also Fort Caroline. Jax also has an arboretum near there. After Kingsley Plantation, ride the ferry to Mayport and have a meal at Safe Harbor. It used to be just a bait shop but expanded to cook fisherman's catch, and then served locals. Now they have a huge store across the street and the original bait shop is now a restaurant and counter, serving local fresh seafood and good beer. Take a drive down A1A through Ponte Vedra to admire the beautiful mansions on your way to St. Augustine. Another gorgeous neighborhood is Ortega, on the river. Beautiful Spanish-inspired mansions. The original Huckins Yacht Company is there, and many of the residents own one.
We just discovered your channel recently and absolutely love it. We live in Orlando and when international travel was halted in 2020 we decided that we need to explore more of Florida. Florida has so much to offer and your videos do such a great job of proving this! We also love JAX and would recommend a great breakfast at the Florida Cracker Kitchen, some incredible BBQ at The Bearded Pig, and some local brews and food at Wicked Barley Brewing Co. 😎
Another GREAT video! Didn't know Jacksonville had so many cool things, we thought it was just a bunch of tall buildings. Thanks for the info!! We always learn something new about a familiar town from your videos.
You supply me with so many great places to go and see. I am planning on a trip to Jacksonville soon. I really like to see old houses and neighborhoods. So, I'm looking forward to seeing Riverside. And that big tree pictured looks so awesome. I looked it up. And so, it is added to my list. Thanks for all of the great information.
We have family in Jax and have not seen any of the amazing places you mentioned. Now we have a guide to make them take us to next time we’re there 😆 thank you!!
Thanks Chad for another great vlog, I hadn't seen much from you lately then noticed that i didn't have your channel subscribed for all notifications. Fixed that.
Jacksonville Arboretum, Springfield neighborhood, and all the things under construction like Emerald Trail, Shipyards District, and Laura Trio. Also Riverside Arts Market is one of the absolute best things we have
Born and raised in Jax. This brought back many memories. Growing up late 60s early 70s access to busses, on our bikes then cars we roamed all over town and beaches. Always said Jax was 5 little towns trying to be a city. Each area was unique and socially different. 5 points had the 1st head shop, McGovern and other political signs in the middle of the traffic circle. The Edgewood theater was also in Murray Hill along with a library and Edgewood Bakery. Willow Branch in Riverside is a beautiful park, the library is worth a visit. Great video, might have to day trip back home instead of driving around it.
