- Channel 4 live music show The White Room had some stunning guests in its time. Few were more electric than Prince, who performed 'Get Wild' with side-project New Power Generation in April 1995.
This lineup is probably the best band Prince ever had - Bland on drums, Hayes on keys, Sonny on bass

Love it Love it Love it. I'm 58 and grew with Prince through all the changes. Every time the critics didn't like something, a lot of us loved it. He said we were evolving with him because he couldn't stay 19 forever.

Prince crushes the bass on this jam.
He does...but he's not actually doing that much. And that's his genius.
If you watch closely, there's another bandmember playing the main bass parts...Prince is just playing a few small accents here and there to add another (perfect) layer. No regular guitar either, which Prince is known for, just two layers of bass. One playing the main bass lines that you wouldn't ordinarily pay attention to, and Prince playing very basic but killer bass guitar fills and accents.
Genius.
The genius of playing, effectively, lead bass. Not many people can do it.
Man, I just love seeing him thumping and plucking the one eyed bass....
He pumped out so many class songs in this era (I don’t give a shit about chat positions), The Good life was another huge club hit and most people I met wouldn’t believe me it was Prince
This was the time I got into Prince. Everyone was hating on him for being pretentious but I thought the whole name change and covering his face was brilliance. Love this song and performance. Thank you for posting!
Same - my dad was into him so I hated it because, well, it was my dad's music. Plus the screaming on tracks like Darling Nikki used to scare me - I wanted everything to be nice and crisp and clean like Stock Aitken & Waterman or Michael Jackson. Then when everybody was slagging Prince off for being a weird shortarse maniac changing his name to a symbol, my contrarian self decided to properly dig into dad's record collection and see what all the fuss was about.

Warner Brothers owned his music, his rights, and his image. They told him everything he could and could not do. This was part of a transition when he was leaving to be on his own.

If he covered his face, and didn't use the name Prince, his record company couldn't do shit about what he decided to do. That was what the whole slave thing was about.
He did all the work, they owned everything and kept most of the money.
He got to the point where he couldn't take the injustice of it all, anymore. And Prince being Prince, took on the entire music industry and won.

He did that when he was only known as The Symbol. With the legal ongoing with his contract at the time. He refused to show his face or even speak in interviews then. Mayte spoke for him. That’s the reason for the scarf.

It was his last musically interesting period. Sonny T really pushing him to go further and further. After this, I mean... Paul Gambaccini put it really well: Prince has ALWAYS had a great sound, but at the beginning and end of his career he didn't always have great songs.
@@peterfalconeri agree. Most fans love his "Purple Rain" era, but "Love Symbol", "Come" and "Gold Experience" eras were his, imo, best and most creative. Also, regarding your last sentence: I think that's due to his inability to step outside of himself. Just because you can do it all doesn't necessarily mean you should. I mean, if satisfying himself were his only.interwst, then, yeah, do it all but from a Fan's perspective, Prince could have done more interesting work had he worked with other producers, really good.ons.

yoda purple. I don't know...after the unfortunate baby incident. .he dropped her like a STD virus. He totally disconnected himself from her in a bad way..and it could be that experience was just too much. Losing a child is devestating and they lost 2....but, I believe when Prince loved you...he loved hard and when he didn't want to fool with you..you knew it!

yoda purple I never said he didnt..that's goes without saying, because of she and alot of other questionable talented people he supported ..I'm stating my opinion. .I think she wasn't asset in his shows. Prince was who he was...and I love his music. Nobody really knows what occurrred, but when she was on that reality show she spoke about how he never talked to he and distanced himself,..that was HER words, plus she has given many other interviews saying the same.. I'm sure she'll speak more on their relationship in her book, which I have purchased, either way...it's not taking away his credibility as an amazing artist. I've been an admirer/follower/supporter of his since 1979, so let's be cool and enjoy his legacy. .it's all good.
