Ange Postecoglou vs Craig Foster Argument (Full Interview) TWG.mp4

- This is the full interview of when The World Game interviewed Ange Postecoglou at the time he was managing the Australian youth national soccer team. During the interview, him and Craig Foster, chief football anylist for The World Game, got into a heated argument over Ange's position at the Australia Youth Club, Foster pointing out that he wasn't getting the results he should've and therefore should retire, Ange believing he should stay. A short while after the argument, maybe a week or so later, Ange Postecoglou got sacked; guess he should've listened to Foz after all.
Hello to Foz if you're reading this, very nice argument you have given us here, good that you're not afraid to get stuck into people, but we haven't see an argument on TWG for ages, please start one, pleeeeeeeeease. - Спорт

I watched this as a teenager live. I was very swayed by Foster, it felt like he had the balls to destroy him. Now in hindsight it's so opposite. Ange stood his ground with real character like a boss. The best manager this country has produced, an amazing man 👏
@Coachteach yeah me too I think it's how we were spoiled by the golden team of Australian football with the likes of viduka, cahill, Kewell, etc. and the results they achieved, we foolishly believed the formation of the Aleague alone and the results of the national team would improve the quality of our football over the years and we expected the same level if not better results. also Les and Foz were really the only football show in Australia at the time so anyone who cared about football tuned into them religiously. They also shared a passion for the socceroos and Australian football that most Aussies who followed them shared.

Ange was correct in pointing out the systemic issues in developing youth football where the players are lacking the quality, which had he been listened are only now trying to be addressed and confirmed by Mark Viduka and others now. Frankly, it wasn’t about the coaching but the player development and quality of those players. It’s systemic and it’s incorrect to blame the coach when the development isn’t there. ten years ago Ange knew that but the commentators can only see in front of their noses.

I think in retrospect, Ange has a very fair point. Football in Australia has come a long way since this interview was taped, what I think Ange is trying to say is that (back then) when you have to play a country like China or Korea which had domestic leagues of a much higher quality than Australia's was, you have to expect that we're going to struggle when they're used to being able to push themselves in a competitive environment that we lacked. Ange stood his ground well, comes across as a very honourable man. Sadly lacking these days.
Used to love this show. The 6 hour coverage of football on Sunday 12-6pm and MOTD/PL highlights show on Monday night were pretty much all we had...
Ange held his ground and defended himself well. The issue with youth level results is that because the players are always transitioning into and out of the squads, the greater determinant of success as these levels is out of the coaches hands. It is dependent on grassroots football and the emerging talent in that country. Once this is in place, it is more the structural aspects of teams and football institutions to develop these talents and recruit those the age ranges (12-21) that may have initially missed out or been following other interests and suddenly display the ability to play professional football. Then, once this is all in place (see places like England, Spain, Brazil etc.), can a coach really have some impact on results and outcomes (except for the truly exceptional coaches). I think this was the underlying argument that Ange/Foz were having here but had a slightly different position on this, though they did have the same underlying view.
In any case, Ange never stood out as truly exceptional (top division quality yes) but many will finally see more of his ability this year and in the EPL. What worked against him in the video above here, worked in his favour at Celtic, i.e. their success is less dependent on their coach and more on all the structures and processes in that neck of UK, at least domestically (generally speaking, compared for similar positions in say EPL, La Liga, Serie A).

@@drummerboy1390 what dae you mean trying to destroy team bus ? Did destroy it mer like, animals !!!!!!!!!!!!! And 2nd best in Scotland ya dancer
My mate used to play with Craig Foster years ago for Adelaide city junior team or reserves and he always mentions how Foster gave him a headbutt after a tackle haha
What’s that prove? Absolutely nothing! Only proves football is tough game and you have never played at high level by being surprised that it can be violent.
@@worldclass3895 dude, its a 5 year old comment. Chill
Not seen a TV interview last this long in a while. Interesting to see actually
Where is Craig Foster now? Do not question my integrity, mate! Ange ball will live forever!
Most genuine Scottish football fans including Rangers fans are saying Ange has been a breath of fresh air for Scottish football, the style of football he has brought to Celtic is not only highly entertaining to watch but it’s also highly productive as Celtic now sit six points ahead of second place Rangers who also have had a great run this season in European football.
Australia’s loss is Scotland’s gain and Scottish football fans are loving big Ange 💚🏴☘️🇮🇪
I'm an aussie and I'm glad he went to celtic and not rangers. rangers are an openly racist team
Australia is an openly racist country
@@cardamundo295 maybe, but it’s big, and you can’t say that about rangers
@@snowyren5135 hahaha luckily I'm not a rangers fan so I won't argue with that. Top response 👌
@@snowyren5135 if being the most successful club in world football doesn’t make you big I wonder what does? 55 titles and still going strong
@@johnrussell552Scottish league is a bum league, your comment just proves that 😂
I’m loving that this interview is now being watched all over the universe
Amazing interview
Ange won The Firm this week and has grown so much since this interview. Can't say the same for football in Australia.
Yeah agree....he has and had then a big vision for football wherever he coached ...too many pea-brains like Foster and others in Admin who love themselves too much...they should resign their positions in my opinion...
@@glen8461 Those positions shouldn't even exist.
This is brilliant! You don't see this stuff on tv anymore
Craig Foster not only thinks he knows everything about football, but he also thinks he’s a genius on aboriginal issues, immigration policy, dealing with illegal immigrants, war, and the Australian system of government - which he wants to radically change. Unfortunately his opinions on those things are about as good as his opinion on Ange’s coaching.
I am. Glad I found this interview. I love the way he stands up to the snob reporter. We need this at Spurs. Give the players a good kick up the ass hopefully
Craig is n was a passionate football critic, Ange was humble to improve and demonstrate he is a good professional.
Thanks Craig for doing you job as great as the response of Ange doing and improving his role to success !
If he joins Celtic then I’d love to see him talking to Andy Walker
Spurs fan watching this and...fuck yeah...this is who we need.
Not attacking him personally but asking him to resign at the same time :)
Ange is and always has been a class act
Every Aussie football loves Ange, always will! Look at his history from south Melbourne to Celtic n major honours every team along the way. Then on the other hand the biggest pest n “BS” talker in Aussie football history.
I hear you brutha!
Ange proving to all of us it's not where you start it's where you finish , easy to criticise not easy to persevere and improve, fair play to Ange
Geoff Shreeves in a few years: "Are you gonna take responsibility for Spurs not winning a trophy?
Ange is probably the best Australia has, Craig's expectations of australian football is hyper unrealistic, it's all about baby steps. Ange bailed after he qualified and is in a nice comfy job in Japan. Good on ya ange
And he just won the championship. Well done Ange
Fuck Ange. He is the worse coach Australia ever had. Absolute shit
Matthew Shaune won a Asian cup, don’t know how you come up with that one Einstein
Not sure how expecting to win against China and Laos is a hyper unrealistic expectation. Should be stock standard at any level. Those excuses too are trivial at best
@@robertmcnamara434 have you seen what Laos did in the main qualifying matches, I bet you haven't.
I'm on Ange's side here
This has aged well hasn't it??
After this interview Ange's life was seriously negatively affected, both in a professional and personal sense. He was really concerned that it would define him and his career and he hit rock bottom. However, despite Foster's inappropriate treatment of Ange, he pulled himself up by his bootstrings, came back even stronger and like the true gentleman that he is, was willing and able to move forward and reconcile with Foster, no hard feelings.
And this is what we love about Ange, who not only shows us that we can pick our lives up when faced with injustice and adversity, but that it is better to make amends with others instead of holding grudges and hatred. So not only a superb mananger but a brilliant human being and role model!
Well, that escalated quickly.
