Great video! I've worked in this industry for over a decade now, and you got a few wrong points there buddy, investment, having good hardware, games being graphically intensive and having a big team is just few aspects on why games are called AAA. The whole AAA term comes from the stock, bond and companies rating system, which in layman's terms means high investment and high reward with less chances of defaulting., so AAA means least chances to default, AA a bit less, and then it goes on. These are on my personal observations from me working in the industry here, one of the two biggest reasons why the Indian gaming market hasn't boomed is because India has always been a servicing hub for both VFX and games for 25 years, aka, foreign companies come here, use the cheap labor, and get things done while their core creative team stays in USA, Canada or where ever, India is one of the best countries at it, ngl, so most people holding the upper management position are corporate guys who have experience on paper of 2+ decades but most of the time lack vision (we have personally worked with them when I returned to India) and focus on how to make profits via said games. Second is the culture, India doesn't have a gaming culture, parents tell children to focus on studies rather than playing games, even if they have a laptop or a pc most of them do not buy games due to lack of purchasing power also as you mentioned taxes on consoles, entertainment tax, etc. (one of the biggest reasons why Nintendo doesn't see India as a market). So kids mostly end up playing mobile games, free to play games or pirate games, which leads to upcoming devs having a narrow field of vision of what projects are supposed to be, or driven by money. Only 0.3% of the indian population is on steam on a global level, another huge factor why investors feel like the games won't sell. Now I don't know about how the funds for game development is being allocated by the government, but from what I've heard they're dividing it as a competitive games and non competitive games, I might be wrong. Of course I've started an indie studio myself and we've pitched to a few places which did not yield results but not giving up, things will change over the time!
Thank you very much for your detailed response, it's always good have a perspective from a person who has experience working in the industry. Some of the points I didn't include were mentioned in my previous videos, also I hope you achieve success with your studio and game. I will be looking forward to it, as I also stated in one of my previous videos, our gaming culture is just not there yet, I don't think Gaming was even considered as an option until 2017, PUBG phase was an eye opener to the general public about gaming in a way that's serious, I could be wrong on that tho. Thanks for the clarification on AAA definition as well, much appreciated!
@@ThePhaganax I am glad you liked my response though I couldn't go all detailed, I have been making videos myself but its not to the quality of what you're making. I don't think many people and game developers I've worked with in the recent past play anything apart from first person shooter or the one's that are trending online. PUBG and other mobile games revolving around the TDM, MMOG, BR game mechanics took off due to Jio coming with cheap internet on the mobile devices and then COVID lockdowns happening which forced parents to get their children phones.
