Here is the sad reality. A lot of the old movies are being censored on streaming platforms. They literally cut scenes they have deemed not up 2024 standards. Wokeness is killing all media and movies. I will keep my collection.
I still own DVD's and HD DVD disks because they come with the original uncut and alternate versions of the movie, plus a lot of cult classic DVD movies are still unavailable on bluray and streaming services so this is the main reason why I still own DVD's. Great video.
Some time ago I watched a DVD movie with my friend's bluray player, and the video quality was so much better that way, when nothing limits it. DVD players with scart connector were the reason to somewhat bad video quality. Nothing wrong with DVD's, there is absolutely no need for that extra quality, the movie is what matters. Bad movie is bad, no matter how big the resolution is. I have a lot of DVD's and I have no Blurays and I never use netflix or similar things.
My main reason I buy dvds still is because of everything getting censored on streaming sites. So I like to try and get full uncut version. I also back up my collect onto a hard drive so I have a digital copy.
I've just started collecting again after years of streaming and I can totally get on board with this. I have bought about 500 in a month, charity shops are a GREAT way of keeping the cost down.
I've never bothered with Blu-rays even though they have better special features, but I have thousands of DVDs. Right now I'm actually watching the old TV series The Pretender on DVD. I really prefer to own physical media. Whenever I go to my local public library which has a good-sized DVD and Blu-ray collection I'm always checking out DVDs. As long as DVDs exist I'm going to be a consumer of them.
Good arguments for both. Personally I have no issue using DVD, Blu-Ray or streaming. All my favourites I have on all major formats. But if I saw a DVD for 10p, I’d pick it up as well!
Absolute useful! It is easy to rip them and have accsess to the Movies everywhere! I am not buying as much, as i am not the big Movie Watcher, but i what i buy i want to store somewhere digitally.
Well if they are (obsolete) I have no idea how I ordered the boxset of Ugly Betty on ebay this week. 24 hour turnaround.. Already halfway through season 1. Until the actual players are no longer available I'm sure DVD's will be around. And if vinyl is anything to go by, there's a few years in them yet.
if you want to keep your dvd for a very long time you will need to keep your disc in a vaccum chamber with no exposure to any form of particles that accelerate the Plastic rot that some cheaper made disc are prone to. while it is much easier to keep the movies for longer period by having it stored on a much more reliable medium that can stand up the test of time. the cheapest solution is to rip all your movies and simply write them on brand new high quality material Dvd. the industry, when having to manufacture millions of copies of each movies, will cut corners and sometimes use the cheapest of manufacture process. high quality material Disc, can last for 100 years without Disc rot, Theoricaly.
As a serious movie collector, I gave up on the DVD format a couple years ago. (unless there is no blu-ray release). For me, there were 2 reasons...mainly. #1 Durability. Compared to blu-ray, DVD's are like handling fine China. #2 Fidelity. As I own a 4K TV (and are a bit of a quality nerd) I don't even like streaming 4K content, as the video and audio are sub-UHD quality. Bottom line, If I'm going to waste 2 hours in front of the 'boob tube', I'm going to make it as worth my while as possible.
Oh I get you totally , I have many bluray movies that I just don't want to watch on dvd , back to the future , aliens , terminator b, predator , ect , I just think some movies are just fine on dvd , i have a western called open range on dvd and to thisb day i think the picture quality is just amazing

I agree totally
Absolutely , and Disney is the main culprit

Great video.
Thank you , alternate version is f the movie is a big incentive to go back to dvd

Im sure the bluray player upscales your dvd disk ,makes it better
Absolutely!

I toyed with the idea of backing up , but it would take me forever
Director and actor commentaries are the best part of DVDs. I have to make a "Sophies Choice" when I watch Fight Club.
Absolutely , but recently I had to purchase a bluray of the same movie because there was no commentary , a real rarity
I've just started collecting again after years of streaming and I can totally get on board with this. I have bought about 500 in a month, charity shops are a GREAT way of keeping the cost down.
It's great isn't it , walking out with so many movies , however I have to be careful I don't buy just for the sake of it

@@AndrewSnarls amen
I like the movie trailers you get on DVD's. The amount of good or obscure fillms i would of missed out on.

I'm the same , lethal weapon I have on VHS , dvd and Blu-ray
I was waiting for the pile to fall over, did not disappoint
I knew people would be watching that lol
Yes.
BluRay / 4K the way to go.
Absolute useful! It is easy to rip them and have accsess to the Movies everywhere! I am not buying as much, as i am not the big Movie Watcher, but i what i buy i want to store somewhere digitally.
All great points
I have hundreds of dvds I've collected over the years, I don't collect them anymore but I don't have any intention of getting rid of my collection.
I don't blame you
I'm in NC and a few of the Targets in my area are getting rid of both DVD and Blu Rays.
It's very sad to see , I think u will always be able to get movies , but mainly on line or specialist stores
many of my movies are DVD only in my collection

I think dvd will be around for a while , and when it does disappear we have a massive catalogue to search for

The dreaded disk rot
I don’t think so I collect a lot for home cinema and recent and classic movies on dvd blu ray and in 4K
4k Blu-Ray dvds have a better visual quality than streaming. So they're only obsolete if you're happy with mediocrity.

I hate streaming I rather watch dvds
Yes they are obsolete. And yes I agree streaming sucks. Blu Ray and 4k formats are far superior.
Of course , but sometimes it's absolutely fine to pick up a cheap dvd and enjoy the movie lol
i still buy vfs and dvd
What is a VFS , is that documentaries
@@popculturepedestal it's a @popculturepedestal, (very F*****g stupid) it's called a typo, but you've never done one
