    exactly what I was thinking of building without the cutter but direct drive from tractor. Have given me additional ideas. thanks for posting.

    Mostly tulip poplar but some locusts Lucas is probably one of the hardest woods we have here in western North Carolina to split

    That is an old style fire wood splitter. We had one when I was a boy eighty years ago only it was powered by a water wheel.

    Is the differential locked on the axle or does just the mass on each side keep both axles turning when shearing or splitting? Thanks

    I bought the rack opinion and bearings from the super split company and they cost me about $560
