Sallie Martin was known as a tough business lady and she just was known for having an ornery, "don't mess with me" personality. It was she who set up Professor Dorsey's music publishing house, stepped in as his business manager, and helped him to establish his various conventions and what-not. There is a scene in "Say Amen Somebody", where her and Madame Willie Mae Ford Smith get into it over what exact year the National Baptist Convention and National Chiors, etc., was started. Willie Mae Ford Smith stood her ground, but in a more sweet, Grandmotherly kind of way. But Sallie Martin was no-nonsense and ready to battle over it. Ford-Smith said with a bemused smile...."Now, I'm not going to get my pressure up about it...it was 19 and 33!!" Professor Dorsey, who was sitting in between the two sparring women, just sighed & smiled....LOL But he didn't DARE take a side on the matter. **Wise Old Gentleman**
She had an adopted daughter named Cora Martin she was part of her mothers group. The sallie Martin singers just for a short time tho. She passed in 2005.
I remember her in Say Amen Somebody....exactly as you describe her (Sallie Martin) and also as you just described it "Mother Smith" kept her cool....I remember Dr. Dorsey saying "the Bible says when two or more or gathered together".....I say "Trouble" lol...Dr. Dorsey brought some humor to it.

Are we supposed to follow the teachings of the apostles? Acts 2:42, And they continued steadfastly in the apostle's doctrines. Ephesians 2:20, We are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone. Don't get Titus 3:5 mixed up with James 2:14-26, about WORKS. One is a WORK of your OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS OR GOOD DEEDS and the other is a WORK OF FAITH.
