Great points on why to have a servo tester in everyone's RC Hanger. I use the XBC100 from Spektrum for mine. Enjoyed watching.

I do all the tests you mention, but your tip about attaching a small and inexpensive ESC is a great one. Thanks!

Good point, I have a few other uses. To hold a servo in one of the positions while installing or adjusting the horn end of the control linkage. Once the servo is centered and the control arm is installed, keep it plugged in as you tug and turn on the other end and make sure the rudder, elevator etc are in the proper position. Here is another use, some servo testers have a digital readout on how many amps it is using. If your servo binds up at full deflection, the amps spike. This is not good for your servo or the linkage. Fix it so when the servo is at max deflection, nothing binds.

I have a Spektrum XBC100 Smart LiPo Battery Checker & Servo Driver that I use. It wasn't cheap, but it's one of the few servo testers that shows how much current the servo/retract is drawing. I check the gears in servos while it's cycling them by putting a load on the servo arm with my fingers. I can also set the pulse width range when it's cycling. The standard pulse width range (100% travel and dual rate) of Spektrum radios is 1100 to 1900 microseconds (1500±400 microseconds). If you exceed that on some planes, the control surfaces could bind and damage something. I check the servos and the control surface centering and deflection on new planes before I assemble them.

My tester's just started playing up and boy is it annoying, you don't realise how much you use a tool until it's gone, thanks for the video Will I'm going to order a new one right now 👍
