kingikiller Jesus, let her speak how she wants to speak. Just because she says some slang doesn't give you permission to be rude.
kingikiller What the heck? How is "bean" derogatory?
Everything about this performance is amazing, people don’t realise how difficult it is to do that in a stage all by yourself
also i feel like Brian is doing such a great job resisting and being the straight man to Andrew’s funny and they play off each other so well
Riff at 5:04 is the best I've ever heard. Ever. Clean, perfect, in tune, on time. Stellar.
It's fantastically good... you get glimpses throughout the song when he does "i believe" and then on that riff he lets it go. Awesome
Outrageously good
That guy has sunshine in his eyes.
Has anyone else listened to this song on repeat for the past few weeks
Nicholas W yes
Saw this in person last December and been listening to it ever since. I’m pretty sure I know the whole album by heart!
Nicholas W help I’ve watched this four times today, still counting.
Nicholas W yes
how can you make a song that makes fun of something to be so ridiculous but is still so uplifting and wholesome
i constantly sing this song i honestly think ive lost friends cause of it
Saaame
All my friends look at me as if I'm a lunatic... And then I proceed to yell "I BELIEEEEEVVVE THAT IN 1978 GOD CHANGED HIS MIND ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE!!!!!!!"
+Anna Shrader this is so me haha i just go round screaming 'I BELIEVE THAT SATAN HAS A HOLD OF YOU'
Anna Shrader heavenly father told the prophet we need to remember that is why we have a prophet so we can know what heavenly father wants us to change for the glory of him the father
same
That pose at the end tho. It's pure Broadway.
5:02
ok can we just talk about that riff for a minute because I can't stop rewinding that part
+PupCake1025 YESSS I love that part thank you! haha
YEESS
sooo good!
+PupCake1025 YES
i always put my hands up whenever i hear that riff xD
One of the cleanest vocal performances ever
Seriously! Knocked it out of the park!
"A warlord who shoots people in the face. What's so scary about that?"
I love that line
+krisscouture Ahaha, me too. I also love that the whole intro is a paraphrase of "I Have Confidence" from The Sound of Music
+Tapnerd I'm a bit of an anomaly in that I hadn't seen The Sound of Music all the way through until about a week ago even though I'm fairly well versed in most Broadway shows (the rest of my family of course holds the movie and musical in the highest regard). Anyway, I knew of this song before I knew of "I Have Confidence", so when I heard the beginning of "I Have Confidence", I had to do a double take because it instantly reminded me of something, and when I realized that that something was this song, I nearly choked from laughter. It just made me appreciate the satirical nature of Book of Mormon even more.
New on my to-do list:
Jumping in a room, pointing at somebody and singing "I believe - that satan has a hold on you!"
Just for the heck of it
I love how happy he looks singing that last note 😊
that one riff lives in my mind rent free. you know the one.
5:03 gets me right in my musical theatre soul 😩🙌🏼
Bridget Nally I love that too!
So cute, yes!
Amen!
Is there a word for that kind of technique?
Exactly
Excuse me and excuse me some more. The level of Andrew Rannels in this situation was absolute. I don't know that another person will be able to put that much spirit and commitment into this character. Bravo.
this was such a great performance, wow!
I saw him sing it on Broadway and I think my jaw is still on the floor of the theatre. And lordy is he cute.
Someone get Elder Price some chapstick.
this comment made my year!!
he licked his lips 17 times
Blake Bowker HAHAHAHAH
yeah and get it lickety-split ;)
I guess it’s more a dry mouth because of nervousness.
Look at Shakespeare's husband go
all the references in one sentence
Something Rotten AND Falsettos? In one sentence? Nice.
BAHAHA
Mormons shun and excommunicate gays
@@Perririri Dude it was a joke. The pun was from two different musicals, Something Rotten!" and "Falsettos".
What is awkward about this, is that after the song, Elder Price had his book shoved up his ass by the warlord.
The split second of Trey and Matt smiling and clapping at the end is actually so wholesome
5:02 Hit that "Believe" so good I had to get up and walk it off. Now that's the power of Jesus' planet i tell you what
The brilliance of matt and trey is that they're able to totally thrash something while celebrating it at the same time
I've watched this like 20 times in 2 days specifically for that "I bel-ieeve" at 5:03, incredible!
Only 20?
Each time I come back and watch this performance (which is often), I always replay this riff at least 40 times. It’s so incredible; he sounds even better here than in the OBC album (in which he is sensational)!
"And DANG IT!" Whoa...easy there, Elder Price...
SOME👏BODY👏 JUST 👏GIVE👏 THIS 👏MAN 👏A 👏DAMN 👏TONY👏

This is honestly one of the greatest musical songs ever made. Still get goosebumps listening to it, even now.
Exactly. Goose bump city...
yes and so much better from legally blonde too
I've seen the show twice, and would definitely see it again and again, but I'm hoping they eventually release a dvd/blu ray. Such an amazing show, in every way!
they didn't record it for a number of reasons, the main being broadway productions rarely turn a sizable profit and a recording team (like the one that made this) costs money to hire.
There are a lot of broadway musicals that are in fact recorded, but the tapes are just kept in a library in NY with very limited access to scholars only, basicaly.
So glad to know I'm not the only one! I flew from Amsterdam to London twice this year to see The Book of Mormon, something I had been dreaming of for years. After five years of wanting to do this I finally did it in february. In octobre I won their lottery so I coudn't let that change slip. Now I'm actually thinking of going a third, forth, fifth time.
The gospel choir singing "SATAN HAS A HOOOOLD" is the most trey parker thing ever hahaha
I would give $1000 to hear the Mormon Tabernacle choir sing this.
I'll convert and do it for that amount.
I’ll convert and do it for free

I broke into hysterical snotty laughter at "I believe that I'll get my own planet" 😂😂
I know it's part of LDS lore and faith, but still... it's almost too surreal 😂
I’m an actual Mormon and we don’t believe that...

I know. I was just being an ass when writing that previous comment.
My apologies...
If LDS church brings happiness and serenity to it's members, it's definetly a good society ✌🏼
(Also your church's Tabernacle Choir is awesome. I saw their Christmastime concert last year via online broadcast. Gave me good chills like half the runtime 🎶🎵)
Mr J. Kottari thanks! There’s just a lot of things people say we believe that we actually don’t. Anyways the tabernacle choir is pretty good and I do enjoy them myself. Thanks for being cool and have a good day
@@kaelnipko8958 Umm...yeah actually you do. Or should. Since you are taught you can become gods and create your own worlds which will be populated with your own spirit kids.
BLACK ALIEN MUSINGS That is only some what true. We are taught that if we strive to do our best everyday and follow gods commandments, we can go to the celestial kingdom with him again and become equal with not God, but Jesus. After the second coming, God will purify the Earth and we will live on that purified Earth for the next 1,000 years
I've seen this musical twice now, both times on tour. No matter how many times I see it, Andrew will always be Elder Price in my mind. His performance is unparalleled and remains as amazing in 2024 as it was in 2012. It is truly something incredible.
i agree entirely!!!
This makes me wanna watch the whole musical so badly now XD
+I Don't Even Like Chai Latte's It's hilarious and wrong. Everyone needs to see it, it's soooo good lol
I would love to! But, I've yet to find a version online. And I don't live where I can watch it live :(
It's on primewire!
Have you found it yet?
if you search up musical bootlegs it should be in one of the playlists. its unlisted though so if you search it up it wont show up :)
Can't tell you what I love more..... This song or Andrew Rannells singing it
Andrew is super great and reminds me of a young Jim Carrey.
Zooba57 are u f****** kidding me right? This is guy is 💯 times better looking than Jim Carrey.
Zooba57 I can see it
young jim carrey was a hobo tho.
Agreed! It's the hair, I think.
Dani G.R lol
So I'm LDS my little brother served in Oslo Norway and they have this play at one of the theaters there which they would sit outside the theater after the performance to give out copies of the book of Mormon to people as they walked out the theater. He said it was pretty fun doing that as people loved seeing real missionaries after the show.
They did the same thing outside the theater on Broadway too! Lol
How did the guy playing the war-lord manage to keep a straight face?
That's acting, baby.
Say It!!!!!!
cuz they practiced it so often that it isnt funny anymore, if you watch the first rehearsal, he probably laughed his ass off
I would love to see early rehearsals from before they could all keep a straight face the whole way through. After saying the same lines and doing the same things over and over, it stops being funny to you.
he is a really great actor XD
Oh God I can't stop watching this I love Andrew's voice
I must have listened to this a thousand times by now.
Make that 10,000
3:50 the way he looks around for approval/recognition is HILARIOUS and so adorable
5:03 literally my favourite part - in love with how he sings that believe
AND HE DID THAT SHIT ON AN "E" VOWEL
oooo that gave me chills
i still can't believe the creators of south park wrote this musical
The tone of South Park and the tone here are very related
They’ve always been great at writing songs, the South Park movie and Team America are great examples
it's really not surprising when you listen to the songs they've done before, they've always been REALLY good at picking up the mood of different types of songs. I still get Cartman's "too many minorities at my water park" song stuck in my head lol
I believe.
Well The South Park movie and Team America were musicals. And very good ones at that. America: Fuck Yeah is basically Americas theme song now.
Every time I hear, “what the f**k is this?” I laugh 😂
Unbelievable voice. Seen the travelling cast twice but no one quite hits that 5:04 note like Andrew does...thing of beauty
He licks his lips 20 times. Exactly. I counted.
+Michelle Dempsey doing god's work.....thank u
+Michelle Dempsey
Now I can't _not_ see his tongue. The first time I watched it, I didn't even notice. But the second time, after reading your comment....
+Michelle Dempsey Omfg he licks it so much... I can't stop laughing it's like a lizard
29 times actually, a few are hard to see
He did an interview where he said as soon as he entered the stage all the moisture left his mouth
The main thing I love about this musical is how it's more than just a satire, it's a serious well written story and one of my all time favorite musical. Thanks Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
How is having a bible shoved up your ass supposed to be serious?
Because General Butt Fucking Naked doesn't care about religion?
kevin lim
kevin lim You are missing the bigger picture ... watch the episode of southpark all about mormons ... at the end (last 15 seconds) the mormon kid says something to stan ... and I think they kept the same message in this play!
I haven't seen that episode yet.
elave16
kevin lim It would be seriously sore...
Personal observation: the first chorus has a summary of the old testament, the new testament, and then the book of Mormon.
+Holly Boreham And the three of them are hilarious. Like the whole song : )
+TheMetfan81 wow that was a really bad joke... Like the three of them :)
Holly Boreham true holy heck
"The Lord God created the universe" is only a summary of the first chapter of the old testament. The rest is _very_ different.
He killed it. Amazing performance.
Andrew Rannells deserves all the credit he gets and more, but we also need to talk about the other actors on that stage. I can't even think about this song without laughing, and there's not even a flicker of a smile. That's some acting right there :D
yea i cant believe there was no mention of Brian Tyree Henry, he was kinda skinny here lol
I always laugh at "What the f**k is this?!" and then tear up a little bit at "This is the moment I was born to do... and I feel so incredible to be sharing my faith with you." Elder price is bae
Out of all the things I would call this song before I clicked on it, I never thought it would be "adorable". He is literally too pure. And that face!!! XD I need to watch this musical now
5:02 is one of the best pieces of singing in musical history

Can we talk about how nice it was of his co-stars to come on stage to help another actor try to win a Tony? That's real solidarity right there.
What do you mean?
He is simply amazing. The voice, the comedic timing, the absolute earnestness of every line. Wow.
I’m in an Andrew Rannells rabbit hole and I’m not complaining
Best place to be!
Obviously it is a hilarious song, but what an EPIC performance. Absolutely kills it
The first time I heard this song I thought it was really emotional and powerfull...and then "and I belive that in 1978 God change his mind about black people (black people!)".
If I were had been drinking I would surely spit it out all. I fricking love this musical.
