    Good job, working on the ground as most people do is a lot worse then working on a workbench, pleased you didn't mess up the new rubber with your screwdriver installing the chrome strip, you can buy a little tool for inserting the strip very cheap or make it yourself with a strong wire and a round end the size of a thumbnail, and can save you a lot of time and troubles. Keep up showing us, great!

    Hi, Spitfires are a bit thin on the ground here in Australia as well as my mechanical experience so I really appreciate your videos. Well shot and informative. I'm about to replace my head gasket with a bit more confidence since watching your channel.

    Can't believe someone disliked your video Steve! Anyway good video, glass fitting can be a right pain in the ass so the pair of you did well. I always enjoy the little driving bit at the end 👍

      Cheers mate, now what's it they say, you can't please them all. It was a right bugger to fit it, but like anything it's a learning curve and I'd do it again now I know how to do it 👍

      Cheers Ole, it was a bit of a pain getting in the glass until we got the right technique for doing it. And thanks for saying so, it means a lot to me 👍🏻

    Well, that's an efficient way to get the glass out.

      Cheers Graham, I though given the rubber is scrap, cutting it out is the most safest way for getting the screen out without cracking it; it seems to have worked perfectly. However getting back it was a whole new learning curve 👍

    Thanks, currently rebuilding a Spitfire 4 and a Mark 2, so any job done is interesting to see how others do it...question for you... do you know if the Spitfire 4 are the only cars with turnhandles on the doors and Mark 2 models have buttonhandles...I've seen Mark 2 Models with turnhandles also? Incorrect or....? Nice Mark 3 you have there... Top!

      @johndavey72 4 роки тому

      I'm not sure myself. Google "pictures of Triumph Spitfires " you'll find your answer there. I actually thought all Spitfires had push button handles but every days a schoolday !

    • @SteveDentonClassics
      @SteveDentonClassics  4 роки тому

      The problem with the round tail Spitfires is they had a lot of cross over parts, so the door turn handles where on Mk1 and Mk2 until chassis number 56578FC then they go over to button handles. It's best if you can to get hold of a Triumphs parts manual, or if you can get hold of the Moss Europe parts catalogue they are pretty accurate for detailed info such as that 👍

      @@SteveDentonClassics OK, thanks, as you are British and Triumphlover, you' were the best person to ask my question to. I have all the Triumph workmanuals and partsmanuals, I'll check in there. What I know for sure as from the Mark 3 the wooden dash is used, before that it was a metal black one, the first Spitfire 4 hadn't even carpets or sometimes even a heater installed... I'll upgrade my Triumphs anyway, other cooling, adjusted rear spring conversion and electronic inginition and so on Thanks for your response! Greetings!

      No probs, yes early mk1s didn't even have anti roll bars!! There is so much you can do with a Spitfire and so many paths you can go down. Modified, original, or original with symphonic upgrades, its all how you want the car to be. I'm sure you'll do a great resto with your Spitfires, and if my videos help you along the way then that'll makes me happy to think that they have done there job, helping someone out 👍

    Was it Sywell for a celebration drink ? The speed you were going l thought you'd put a Merlin in ! (Get it ? Merlin...Spitfire...)😂😂. Actually Steve you fit the screen trim in before you fit the screen. When "stringing" the screen in l always use robust string or thickish electric cable , something like earth wire but string is the best. I've seen the string placed around the screen in various places but l start at the base about 6" from one corner then loop it around making sure that you feed it well into the groove . Go completely around , past your start point until your about 6" from the opposite side. Do make sure that you have at least 12 to 18 " of surplus string at each end. Lift the screen into the aperture keeping a good pressure from outside and then start pulling the string up towards the opposite side of the screen keeping it as flat to the screen as you can. This normally works. Fitting a Stag screen is something else and a nightmare ! Regarding the M.G the fitting method is completely different and you have to be very careful removing and refitting the mouldings. If you need advice ,give us a shout! Haven't seen "baloo" recently. Cheers !

      Yeah, it's Sywell, it's my regular for a pint. We tried stringing it with household earth wire, but just couldn't get it to start as the rubber had just swallow from the amount of lub and attempts we'd tried. In the end it was a case of flat bladed screwdriver, a little popped in at the bottom, then a little at the top, then just gently worked our way round until it went in. Cheers for the advise though John, thought you'd know being a bodywork guy. The MGB will also be done too soon 👍

      @@SteveDentonClassics With the M.G. cut the mouldings out so they don't distort . Cut the rubber out to remove the screen. Be VERY careful if it's laminated ! Fit the seal to the aperture , then fit the screen in , then put in the black rubber filler.lncidently, you need a tool for that. You can manage without but it's hard work ! The mouldings are tricky but patience is the virtue ! Feed the mouldings so they tuck into the outside locating lip. Then tuck the inside of the moulding into the inner lip. Should you slip, the "tool" (l use a thin blunt screwdriver) will tend to track to the inside and not towards your paintwork ! Do be careful ! The Spitfire screen was probably toughened and will tolerate rough handling a laminate won't ! Hope this helps !

      I’ve no idea if mine is any good. Had it for a week. Needs new skills and castle sections. Floors look ok. Back wings need work. But first I’m trying to get engine running and it’s turning over too slowly

      You’ll get there mate, mechanics on MGBs are simple and bullet proof, it’s the metalwork that’s makes them costly. But anything is repairable, it’s just time money and effort

      Fair comment, what I’ve done lately is try and do a balance between both so the audience see what is being done with the music playing, and small breaks between to describe what I’m doing. If I could play the Rolling Stones or something like that I would but UA-cam would screw me for royalty’s hence the royalty free music 👍🏻
