I do understand why someone would go for the original movie, but mama im a big girl now in the dove cameron etc. Version is just one of my Favorite songs ever so i might be biased.
@icevulpix2013 They're still human. People often judge autistic people as either extremely cold or extremely incompetent. When a lot of the time, you're just not taking enough time for them to have a chance to show their true selves. But then I guess the way they come off is another thing you shouldn't judge them by. It's not a disability, it's a rewiring of the brain. Sort of like an Android instead of a Samsung Galaxy - performs the same functions but with its own benefits and drawbacks the other device lacks.
@@IceVulpixbut people can fake their personalities just choose people who are genuine and kind hearted never fails. Even if someone isn't super cool. I had to learn that the hard way.

The fact you didn't know James Marsden can sing leads me to believe you haven't seen Enchanted from Disney! Solid movie there, good one to check out the music from.
I was gonna mention that! He also sings a great version of "That's Amore" on the Enchanted soundtrack too. :D (I don't think it was in the actual film, but its in the soundtrack regardless! lol)
Glad you enjoyed the songs. If you do a part 2, the next choice of songs I think you’ll enjoy are “I know where I’ve been”, “I can hear the bells” and “Without love”
Definitely need a part two, with my favourite songs, 'I know where I've been', 'Welcome to the 60s', 'Without Love' and 'Big, Blonde and Beautiful'! Or a reaction to the full movie, would love that! This is one of my favourite musicals 💖
You should DEFINITELY watch the whole movie. 100% would recommend. I did this show as a teenager and it is simply fantastic and all the songs are bangers!
I agree with alot of the comments who are recommending that you watch the full musical. There is also a "Live" adaptation of Hairspray that is also amazing which you should watch. It has Dove Cameron staring as "Amber". I'm sure you'll remember how amazing Dove's voice was as she was "Mal" in th descendants movies. The actress who plays Mal's mother in descendants also plays the mother of Dove's character in Hairspray Live.
The Live version is pretty terrible though. 😬 The actress playing Tracy has very poor breath control throughout so she has limited choreo to try and compensate (but it’s still very noticeable), and there are quite a few times when the mics cut out. Better to watch a ‘slime tutorial’ of the Broadway show! 😂
@@TheLoonyLovebad1 Literally… 😬 Pretty much the only thing I ever rewatch from the live version is Jennifer Hudson belting for her life - she’s amazing. Everyone else was a bit meh.
Pretty much the entire track list is amazing. I’ve always been partial to Without Love because it is just incredibly cute. I’m glad you had a good time with the songs
you should definitely listen to the rest and watch the full musical in your own time, its so good. a couple years ago they did a live remake of it and ariana grande and dove cameron star in it; its one of my favourite things ever
Hairspray is full of bangers!! Highly recommend 😊 I'm pretty sure that lyric in "Ladies' Choice" is "'Cause it's hard having fun playing with yourself," which is… _better_ than what you heard 😂😅
18:15 I've read somewhere that in the original musical, Conry Collin is the one sing this song. Good thing they chanegd it to Link imo. The lyrics are still... a little yikes but hey, lots of songs like this are popular. People sometimes don't pay much attention to the lyrics, especially in this scene where we are supposed to watch Tracy dance.
Nah, they wrote this song specifically for the movie (Link sings It Takes Two to Tracy instead, but they didn't like the slower vibe). The actual dance scene in the musical doesn't have lyrics, and intersperses the "can I actually use your dance" conversation between Seaweed and Tracy into it (rather than in detention). In the later "Hairspray Live" semi-stage/semi-film version, they gave it to Corny instead of Link.
@Mercadian I'm still miffed about that decision tbh. It makes absolutely no sense as a Corny Collins song, and it wrecks with the pacing, tension, and build up that Tracey and Link's relationship gets in the movie. That whole moment in Ladies' Choice between them was perfect, and as you said, the song was specifically written FOR this moment and Link, so whyyyyy mess all that up???? And yeah, having Corny sing it makes the song 10000000× creepier. Ugh, I'll truly never get over such a bone-headed decision 😞
I totally told you to watch this 😅 You started with the finale, bold choice 😂 But definitely watch the whole thing. It's a 1960s timeline about being yourself in the face of adversity, during the time of segregation. Especially fighting racism and fatphobia in the entertainment industry. But it's also hilarious lol
You watched the songs pretty much in reverse order! 😂 The Nicest Kids in Town is one of the first songs, then it would be Ladies’ Choice (which is basically Tracy’s audition to catch Corny’s eye and get on the show), then Run and Tell That (which takes place after Tracy is on the show), then You Can’t Stop The Beat is the big finale - literally the last song of the musical. You should definitely watch the whole thing though; there are so many good songs that you haven’t seen yet!
You definitely need to watch the whole movie! Its amazing and definitely one of the best musicals and there were songs missed like Queen Latifahs slower song which is gorgeous. I highly suggest it whether you watch as a reaction or just by yourself 😅
It's hilarious, and very like you, to start off with the final song lol. But also, you should DEFINITELY watch the whole movie! It's honestly so damn good. All the of the songs are just so well performed and written. And, for the most part, really do just wanna make you dance. It's just a really fun movie with a very serious message, and it delivers it really wonderfully. I remember going to see this movie in theaters when it came out, and having no real idea what it was about other than Zefron and singing ajsdkl. But man, it absolutely blew me away and made me cry. So while I would say you could also just listen to more songs, I think in this instance...watching the movie in it's entirety would be better. Not just for the added context so things make more sense, but because it's just really beautiful and more people should see it.
As much as i love seeing all the clips and the reactions to them, I would love to see them played in the order they show in the movies so that it helps with the context a little more, and so you dont start with the big finale song where everything is closing up stories and you see all the growth culminated properly
Yes yes yes please watch the whole movie!! It’s one of my absolute favorites, a total comfort movie. Great themes, even better music! (And yes, I do know the dances. It’s VERY hard not to dance and sing along)
You should check out the Broadway cast versions! Some of the voices take a while to get used to since they're so heavily stylized but it's still so fun in a different way
Not him missing the most soul-filled, defining and theme related song of the musical. Queen Latifah best number is waiting for him, and he'll be probably impressed.
I can't believe Welcome to the 60s wasn't on this list! it's my favorite one, but I am SO glad you decided to do this musical didn't even know I needed this
We did hairspray at my school (mainly because a mom insisted we did it so her daughter can be the Tracy). In the yearbook pictures of the play out of 13 pictures only one photo had one black kid🫠
I absolutely love hairspray, I’m so glad you listened to this song. I really love the very last song and I think som of these characters were long overdue to be reacted to by you.
This was a good start but there is so much more amazing music in this movie. I hope you do a part two. Also I once again recommend Strange Magic a juicebox musical that features the voice Elijah Kelley ( lead in Run and Tell That)
Of course, of COURSE you watch the finale song first. I wouldn't expect any less of you, honestly. I highly recommend, if you listen to more of these songs, to listen to "The New Girl in Town". The only thing I'll say about it is that it was originally cut from the stage version, so it's nice that they included it in this version. There's also a transition that can only be done on film but it's done so well.
Link choosing to dance with the girl is a big decision for 2 reasons: it would make the show integrated AND talent scouts were there to see him. He takes 2 huge personal and professional risks in that one decision
this is so weird, just a few hours ago i decided to listen to the soundtrack, which i don't think i've done ever done lol. but this was the first musical i can remember watching and it was such a favorite growing up! please react to more!!! I would recommend I Can Hear the Bells, Good Morning Baltimore, I Know Where I've Been, Welcome to the 60's and New Girl in Town!
A comfort show of mine had to be ‘Over the Garden Wall’ which I hope you also get to experience one day. Every episode has beautiful musical scores, humour, adventure, melancholy and a dash of mystery that is enhanced by its vintage art style and dark, mysterious undertones. I would love to see you react to the episodes though it would be a depart from the usual upbeat shows that you react to. Hope u get to see it one day!
My favorite songs from hairspray are Big, blonde, and beautiful; Welcome to the 60s, and New girl in town (this one in the movie shows both versions). All of these were my absolute go to when I wanted to jam to some music
Many musicals, especially modern ones, have a strong point of view. It's such a stereotype that musicals are just some frivolous singing and dancing, but they can be so much more! I'm glad you're getting to see that with shows like Hairspray. Definitely recommend watching the full thing, and if you have the chance listen to the original Broadway album, Harvey Firestein is perfection as Edna!
Please consider listening to 'Welcome to the 60' and 'Big, blond and beautiful'. They are both from hairspray and i just love it when Queen Latifah sings the later one.
Oh my gosh I love Hairspray SO MUCH it’s a BIG comfort movie and my mom, when I watch the musical I get reminded of how much I love my mom and it’s just a swell time; the songs have been stuck in my head for 10+ years
Just telling you now, but there is a live TV version from like 2017 with Dove Cameron and Arian Grande that I think you might enjoy. More or Less the same songs but since your a Dove Cameron fanboy now- you might like it. Also she just dropped a new album.
mathew you need to watch the full movie to get the full context. also, the movie is different than the broadway musical, which won best musical at the tony's in 2003. just saying, hairspray is so much more than it's finale number.
YOU NEED to listen to the opener Good morning Baltimore! It's so good and also couldn't believe you didn't know James Marsden sang, he was in enchanted and that really good. Another one you should listen to is any of the Queen Latifah songs in this movie, SHES SO GOOD 😭😭😭 like I know where I've been and Big Blonde and Beautiful
If you like James Marsden’s voice, you might like his singing in Enchanted. He plays Prince Edward, and he is so hilarious in that role. That movie as a whole is an absolute delight if you’ve never seen it!
I watched this movie so much as a kid, I even had the CD and would play it over and over in the car when I was with my nana. And talk about a star studded cast. Like I forget how many names are in this until I start listing and I’m just like whoa. You might have recognized the girl playing Amber as one of the girls from Pitch Perfect. Brittany Snow. It’s that time again. That time where I recommend the RWBY (pronounced Ruby) soundtrack, starting with Volume 1, continues. Once again because they’re bangers. Lyric vids recommended. V1 Soundtrack: - Red Like Roses - Lyric video by Autumn-22 - Mirror Mirror - Lyric video by Autumn-22 - From Shadows (full version) - Lyric video by FlyntofRwby - I Burn (full version) - Lyric video by Grifball25 - This Will Be the Day - Lyric video by FlyntofRwby - Gold - Lyric video by Smol Cinnamon Roll - I May Fall (Full version) - Lyric video by Koiyoko Chan - Red Like Roses II - Lyric video by FlyntofRwby - Wings - Lyric video by Griffball25
This is definitely one of my favorites and me and my mom would watch this together and sing the songs together as well I’m already waiting for part 2 of this
Hairspray has such a special place in my heart, my school did it like a month ago and I played Velma Vom Tussle!! It was so fun and genuinely an incredible experience :)
As a new subscriber but a long time fan of musicals and story telling alike, im surprised you haven’t tackled Dear Even Hanson ost (the broadway version not the recent movie specifically) or the Mean Girls musical ost My personal favorites from each are ‘So Big So Small’ tied with ‘For Forever’ from DEH and ‘Apex Predator’ from MG 😊
You should do a reaction to the songs from "Star Darlings". I highly recommend it, I was very sad when I found out that the show was canceled and that no one remembers it because there was a big potential. And yes I'm using Google translate
Amazing but kinda wish you listened to Good morning Boltamore from this movie it has to be one of my favourites and i know off by heart but other than that your videos always brings a smile to my face no matter what is happening ❤❤ thank you
Musicals! Hairspray Was Always My Sister's Favorite. Particularly "I Can Hear The Bells". It's Cute But My Favorite Was Always "You Can't Stop The Beat" Mainly Because It's So Incredibly Energetic And Sounds Like An Oldies Song. If You're Gonna Continue Musicals, One Of My Absolute Favorites Now Is "The Count Of Monte Cristo". Partially And Mainly Because Most Of Those Songs Are Amazing. They Aren't So Much Upbeat But Rather Dramatic.
Hairspray is one of my favourite film musicals! I've watched it many times and still listen to the soundtrack! I Know Where I've Been is my favourite song!
Hey Matthew, recently one of my FAVORITE musicals came out to theaters, and if you haven't reacted to it, I'd love for you to listen to it! "Waitress: The Musical." Its a musical version of the movie "Waitress."!! I'd reccomend to listen to "It Only Takes a Taste", "You'll Still Be Mine", "When He Sees Me", and as a final, "She Used to Be Mine.", a beautiful and sad song.
I ADORE this musical, one of my longtime favorites. I'll admit I'm not very familiar with the movie, but if you do a part two some songs that I know are at least great in the Broadway soundtrack are "Good Morning Baltimore," "Without Love," "I Know Where I've Been," "The Legend of Miss Baltimore Crabs," and "I Can Hear The Bells"
You NEED to watch the whole movie!!! But if you dont you HAVE to listen to "Good Morning Baltimore", "I Can Hear the Bells", "Welcome to the 60's", and "Without Love"
You need to watch the movie itself, or better, the musical if it comes back to Australia (I saw it onstage in Melbourne a few years back). Here's a few things you need to know: "You Can't Stop The Beat" is the finale. Inez winning is a movie-only addition. The original non-musical movie from 1988 and Broadway musical from 2002 both have Tracy winning. The musical takes place in 1962, around May or June. The significance of hairspray was a fashion statement at the time. You'll notice Tracy's hair is backcombed and puffed up. That's just what girls did to their hair back then. "Ladies' Choice" is also film-only. Link saw Tracy dancing with the other kids in detention while they were looking for a new girl to be on the Corny Collins Show and told her that Corny would choose her if he saw her dance like that, and he happened to be hosting a school dance. They added in the song for Tracy to dance to, and the next scene has Penny (Amanda Bynes) showing her parents the opening sequence, where Tracy shows up during the roll call. Finally, if you want to hear Amanda Bynes and Zac Efron singing, the best song for that is "Without Love". Without giving too much away, the two main couples sing to each other about how much they need each other in their lives. The only difference is that in the musical, Link and Tracy are together, and in this case, they're apart and can't hear each other.
Oh my god yes! The whole show is so amazing, but everything makes far more sense and has a far bigger impact in context, doing a full watch of the movie would be ideal
I'd finally get my herniated disc treated for the sole purpose of joining that flshmob of "You Can't Stop the Beat" with Mathew and the community someday
You absolutely HAVE to listen to more songs!! Your reactions are amazing, and you should totes listen to "Without Love," "Hairspray," and "I Know Where I've Been"
Lmao, I did hairspray in highschool, and during nicest kids, he said if you knew the song and dance it would be impossible to not sing along, I was currently singing along when he said that 😂
Nobody: UA-cam reactors watching a musical: how do they all know the lyrics and choreography??? It's.... it's a musical. The songs are a storytelling device not meant to be taken fully literally or applied to real world limitations. They're using music to illustrate character emotions, plot points, and developments. It's like watching a movie with a flashback and going "uh how did the world just ripple? Is everyone seeing this? Are they just standing in silence for two minutes? This was in the past, how did they time travel??" 😂
Also, you must watch the pandemic virtual singalong of You Can't Stop the Beat. It is so JOYOUS. It gathers alumnae of various productions and you will hear riffs that heal your soul. And please watch the movie.
Oh you're missing a few amazing songs still Good morning baltimore New girl in town I can hear the bells Baltimore crabs You're timeless to me Without love Also please react to the songs from Anna and the apocalypse
I was really hoping for Big, Blinde, and Beautiful. But! I love all of these songs. Can't Stop The Beat is the finale song. As you listen to more musocals, you'll get a sense for opening and closing numbers as well as intermission songs. (Orayne that's just a me thing...)

this is so weird, just a few hours ago i decided to listen to the soundtrack, which i don't think i've done ever done lol. but this was the first musical i can remember watching and it was such a favorite growing up! please react to more!!! I would recommend I Can Hear the Bells, Good Morning Baltimore, I Know Where I've Been, Welcome to the 60's and New Girl in Town!
I am all for a full Hairspray watch along. 🤞🏼🎶
PLEASE! I NEED A VIDEO OF YOU WATCHING THE FULL FILM
"I had a thought and I ran with it"
Yeah this is why I love these videos!!
These songs have always been such a bop
Yet all the Broadway or musicals, both Broadway and off-Broadway compilations only have that song.
V1 Soundtrack:
- Red Like Roses - Lyric video by Autumn-22

12:02 The actress playing Little Inez is Taylor Parks, who is now a singer called Tayla Parx with great music!
This is definitely one of my favorites and me and my mom would watch this together and sing the songs together as well I’m already waiting for part 2 of this
My old secondary school did this as a musical and it was amazing
I did learn part of the dance for Nicest Kids in Town for theatre once, it's very fun lol
this might be the earliest I've ever been to a video... but Hairspray's songs slap.
Hairspray has such a special place in my heart, my school did it like a month ago and I played Velma Vom Tussle!! It was so fun and genuinely an incredible experience :)
As a new subscriber but a long time fan of musicals and story telling alike, im surprised you haven’t tackled Dear Even Hanson ost (the broadway version not the recent movie specifically) or the Mean Girls musical ost
My personal favorites from each are ‘So Big So Small’ tied with ‘For Forever’ from DEH and ‘Apex Predator’ from MG 😊
You should do a reaction to the songs from "Star Darlings". I highly recommend it, I was very sad when I found out that the show was canceled and that no one remembers it because there was a big potential.
And yes I'm using Google translate
Amazing but kinda wish you listened to Good morning Boltamore from this movie it has to be one of my favourites and i know off by heart but other than that your videos always brings a smile to my face no matter what is happening ❤❤ thank you
As a proud marylander I agree
There will undoubtedly be a part 2, so he *better* include that next time
@@TheWiseGrifthere wasn’t a part 2
You need to do part 2 there is soooooo many more bops in this xx
you know that happy infectious feeling you were getting from each of the songs you kept mentioning? yeah, the whole musical is like that.
Gotta do a part 2 with I Know Where I’ve Been, Big Blonde and Beautiful, and Miss Baltimore Crabs! ❤
i also hadnt seen hairspray until more recently so i get this feeling of "WHERE HAVE I BEEN?!"
Here's a few things you need to know:
"You Can't Stop The Beat" is the finale.
This musical has been in my head for a week and now I'm blessed with a react to it!!! Woo!
I'd finally get my herniated disc treated for the sole purpose of joining that flshmob of "You Can't Stop the Beat" with Mathew and the community someday
PART 2 PLEASE
Also that scream that Zac Efron does is just omg, love it
You absolutely HAVE to listen to more songs!! Your reactions are amazing, and you should totes listen to "Without Love," "Hairspray," and "I Know Where I've Been"
Lmao, I did hairspray in highschool, and during nicest kids, he said if you knew the song and dance it would be impossible to not sing along, I was currently singing along when he said that 😂
Hairspray is one of my favorite movies, you should totally react to more songs!
Its def one of my fav movies, growing up near baltimore its hard not to love it lol.
Nobody:
UA-cam reactors watching a musical: how do they all know the lyrics and choreography???
It's.... it's a musical.
Bro I’ve never even HEARD of Hairspray you’re not the last person. Don’t feel bad about that man.
If you want to watch hairspray, it is actually free on youtube. All of the songs are good so you'll love it.
You need to do a part 2 you need to listen to I can hear the bells and without love
Also, you must watch the pandemic virtual singalong of You Can't Stop the Beat. It is so JOYOUS. It gathers alumnae of various productions and you will hear riffs that heal your soul. And please watch the movie.
Oh I really want Mathew to watch Chicago! I think his reactions and input would be interesting
You DEFINITELY need to do a part 2!!
Mathew: "This feels so 50s/60s"
*the movie liteary taking place in the 60s*
I love this movie so much, I watched it when I was a kid in theaters
The opening song to this movie/musical is my absolute favorite
It’s hard having FUN playing with yourself. Not foreplay 😂😂😂
Oh you're missing a few amazing songs still
Good morning baltimore
New girl in town
I can hear the bells
Baltimore crabs
You're timeless to me
Without love
Also please react to the songs from Anna and the apocalypse
There is a version of Hairspray with Dove Cameron and Ariana Grande in it I believe that was the live version
I was really hoping for Big, Blinde, and Beautiful. But! I love all of these songs.
Can't Stop The Beat is the finale song. As you listen to more musocals, you'll get a sense for opening and closing numbers as well as intermission songs.
(Orayne that's just a me thing...)
