I'd give the cats a chicken wire door after they've been there a week, when they are comfortable in the new space. That way they can safely interact with Pablo, see him and get used to him. and vice versa. I've done this with numerous cats. There might be small spats or hissing at first, but you'll know when it's safe to release them. Feeding and treats near each other, but on either side of the door, helps too.
"I'm not a cat person" says the guy who lets cats climb on him, records himself cuddling cats, goes full on dork for mother-daughter names for his new cats, and clearly bonds with his alpha barn cat.
My dad used to say similar stuff about the dogs, until after a lot of pleading, we got the cutest cockerspaniel ever and she became his favorite child of the household
Kitten needs some toys! Very important for developing their prey drive and it's like occupational therapy. They're so pretty! Baby looks just like Mom. Mother daughter name suggestions: Judy and Liza.
I think you need to stop saying you “aren’t a cat person at all”. Haha. I think you’re SORT of a cat person. Or a person “formerly known as not a cat person”. Not that you are super into cats, butttt. I dunno, Morgan. Maybe you’re not a “everyone else’s cat” person but you’re a “my cat” person.
No but he is a cat Guardian. The interesting bit will be when the kitten meets Toby because he’s obviously enormous compared to her. Then again he will be a cakewalk compare to dealing with the geese lol. Hopefully come winter all three of them will be curled up in a big pile above Toby.
Since Pablo's name comes from a famous person's barn-like name, I suggest Carol for Carol Burnett (BARNett) and Audrey for Audrey Hepburn (HepBARN). Not mother and daughter but still fun!
Not surprised Momma and Pablo growled at each other. Pablo because it's another strange cat in his territory. Momma because she doesn't want a strange male cat near her kitten. Hopefully they'll learn to get along.
If you want to get them to integrate quickly without much fighting brush them all with the same brush. The more you intermingle their smells and yours together the quicker they will all get on. Include Toby in the mix too so when they meet there is less fear involved. I’ve used this method for introducing animals together and it has in my opinion made it easier.
You should get all the cats microchipped. I know our shelter does it for like 20 bucks a cat and its a great way if they do ever go missing to make sure you get them back. Plus it also means they dont technically need a collar which reduces the risk of them getting stuck on something and and getting hurt
We have a cat with those exact markings. Everyone who meets her is blown away by her personality. She is very outgoing and an awesome hunter. And many people know other cats who look like her and report the same qualities. Nice choice!
They're adorable!! Some name suggestions: Duchess and Marie (Aristocats), Donna and Sophie (Mama Mia), M'Lynn and Shelby (Steel Magnolias), Lorelai and Rory (Gilmore Girls). Can't wait for the next video :D
As someone who has overseen about twenty generations of barn cats, your method of habitation is basically perfect. The barn itself looks very well built, with no gaps for wind to cut in. And likely full of fun little bugs to practice stalking. Adopting an outdoorsy mother with her kittens is the best way to ensure that they will become productive, vicious predators. Amazing job. I love to see happy cats living their best lives in ideal conditions, and having freedom to hunt.
If you haven't been watching this channel, I hope you continue to and catch up eventually to see how the cats and the cattle get along, out in the pastures and in the barn as well 😸 Oh, and the livestock (or poultry) guard dog who should have his own TV show.
You want mother-daughter-names? Try *Rhea* and *Vesta,* both come from mythology. Rhea herself is a daughter of Gaia/the Earth/“the land”, while Vesta, her daughter, is the goddess of hearth and home. So you would have two cats, one is “the daughter of the land” (Rhea), and the other is the guardian of hearth and home (Vesta). How about that?
@@moniquem783 - But she is _inside,_ so she would be more one of the household gods, a “lar”, while Vesta is outside also 😉 No worries, Rhea (for the mother cat) and Vesta (for the daughter) are nice short names the cats would recognize, and although you can of course start a theological debate, I think Gaia, the Earth, will smile upon the farm for naming guardian cats after her daughter and granddaughter nonetheless 😊
Mama Barncat and Baby Barncat would probably be the easiest choice, but I like a lot of the other suggestions so far! Hope they acclimate well and get along with Pablo
“Momma Barn Cat” You alway call Pablo “Pablo Barn Cat” and “Lil” is still “Little Barn Cat” even though she’s a house cat now. Just seems fitting. And I like “Ditto” for the baby, because it’s a copy of the the mom, so it even implies that it’s a “Barn Cat” name too.
How does one book passage on "the kitten train"? Your personal non-cat person allergies aside, this is pretty heart-warming stuff and is evolving into shades of We Bought A Zoo. You have a very engaging extended family.
OH MY GOSH IM SOOO EXCITED MORGAN THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO. Pablo's also like the loner cat .for the momma cat I think she should be named Dorothy barn cat
Awesome video Morgan, those kittens are beautiful. I myself am just filming a video of the first day our two barn kittens in training get promoted to full time barn cats. I’m freeing our kittens today after weeks of barn training in a cage. Love to follow your guys story Morgan. Have a great day bud, Chad.
When mama-barncat's slow blinking at you, that's a cat's way of letting you know they're friendly. I've heard it called a love blink - and I've used in the past to calm nervous cats - it works. Don't look straight at her, at first at least, and when you do look at her - slow blink then look away.
Mama and daughter are BEAUTIFUL! Once a “mama cat”, ALWAYS. a Mama Cat meaning just call her Mama Barn Cat! I’m sure Allison’s name for the daughter is probably perfect!! My only suggestion is during their stay in the barn, please provide another litter box in the other room for them. Yes-there are “litter box rules” and that is one per cat +1. But, in this case, two should be sufficient! They will eventually have the entire outdoors at their disposal soon enough and you’ll be back to just cleaning Lil’s box inside! Lol! I know your not a “cat person”, especially with your allergies, but you always make every effort to care for all your animals well!! Looking forward to seeing how well the new kitties do on the farm! Thanks for vlog! Mesquite, TX. ❤️ Gold Shaw Farm!!
We raised several barn kitties when I was growing up. Most of them were strays that wandered into our barn to give birth...so we spayed them and let them live there. We always found that the tomcats were the worst barncats, simply because they wandered more and came back a month later with cuts and bruises all over them. But the female cats were the best, since they hung around the barn and didn't wander as much. Good luck on raising them.
So glad you have some additional barn cats Morgan. They are beautiful. I hope they settle in well to their new home. Cheers from the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia.
I have been watching you at my job at home depot regularly 9am PST for me, and I kept awaiting the time you would finally introduce the new cats. Thank you awesome Allison and Morgan for all the videos you do together. Have followed you since aboot the beginning. It's great seeing you succeed Morgan at your dream. Wish this could be done in my city of Boyle Heights but its too much city life here for the success of farm here. As to kitty names the Kitten could be named Rosie GinaPurr and her mommy could be AshStar. Either ways those are awesome looking kitties. Cheers and much more success to you guys.
Training these little balls of fluff into useful barn keepers is a wonderful experience. We are currently doing the same with several cute little kittens. They always make such wonderful additions to the farm!
A very important question; are all cats spayed and neutered? Kittens can get in heat and pregnant from as young as 4 months old. Also, cats are much less motivated if they are fixed; to run away and find another cat to mate with. You could get Pablo barn cat used to the new cats systematically and in a very good way! When introducing new cats, it is often advisable to feed them (tasty) food on either side of a closed door. Having a family member (also preferably on each side of the door) petting them during mealtime makes that even better. They can smell the other cats during the meal and associate the new cats with something really good. Once the growling of all cats is gone, you can replace the door with a mesh door that is partially shielded at the bottom with a cloth to start with. If that goes well, remove the sight-blocking cloth and they can both see and smell each other during the meal. It goes very well when they do not pay too much attention during meals at each other. That will more than likely result in less conflict and/or fighting among all the cats later on! Jackson Galaxy is a cat behavioral specialist and speaks extensively about cat introductions on his channel and so is Cole & Marmelade. *(another popular cat channel) If you have the time; please watch the videos that I pasted in my own comment below this one. You could see if you can learn something from them.
My postmaster named my barn cat (kitten) for me 15-years ago - Barney (the barn cat). Barney is nearing end-of-life now. My best friend told me that it would be best to put him down now. He is pretty much incontinent but I have that under control. I can spend 20-minutes a day to allow him to live another 24-hours. It is the least that I can do for 15 years of love and companionship.
Maybe you could name the little baby cat Artemis, after the Greek god of the hunt, because they’re barn cats born and bred to hunt. The mother cat could be named Leto, after Artemis’ mother and the wife of Zeus.
She is a real beuty, the mom-cat. And the kitten is just cute. You know, I found your channel because I watch cat-videos a lot, so UA-cam recommended one of your early videos about your barncats to me. And then I just kept hanging around, enjoying your farm life.
Cat names: Debbie and Carrie (Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher). Judy and Liza Goldie and Kate Sophia and Dorothy (the Golden Girls) Demeter and Persephone Blythe and Gwyneth (or just Gwen) Thinking about it Reynolds and Fisher would be great too.
Thanks Gold Shaw Farm and UA-cam algorithms. I just stumbled onto this video and learned something new: bird feed attracts unwanted critters. Sadly, that never occurred to me. I am now changing up our bird feeding setup. The best advice is often coincidental and unsolicited. Many thanks. Good luck with the barn kitten!!!

You can train cats. Pretty similar to a dog really. I have taught more then one cat to sit on command. One would even sit on her back legs and "beg" too.
Try putting something like a big box or a shelf in front of the window so momcat can jump up and look outside to get a feeling for her new home. Helps to familiarize her with the new environment and territory before she really gets to go out and hunt.

Alright, whoever thinks he is lying to himself when he says "he is not a cat person" raise your hand!

I hope that Momma and baby girl are spayed! Lovely pair, I hope they work out well.
Apple and cider would be quite entertaining lol
Both of the new barn cats seem very sweet.
