Back when Star Wars games took risks. That's honestly the best part of Lucas-era gaming, they tried so many different things and, regardless if the game flopped, practically all of them have their individual fan groups so they clearly captured hearts and minds.

Honestly what irks me is whenever gaming channels talk about this game, they only ever talk about the dance off, which really misrepresents the game. This is the first time I’ve ever seen a channel mention the rancor mode which is by far the coolest feature
If the podracing and Jedi games had an option for traditional controls, I feel like this would have been remembered a lot better. Also would have been nice to have a blaster game where you play as a clone trooper, there's a kinect title called The Gunstringer which I remember being a fantastic rail shooter.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the modding scene eventually made it so. Sonic Free Riders recieved a community made controller mode patch, so anything’s possible at this point
Kinect really messed up. They should have thought it through. Not only it should have had different controls (Playstation got that somewhat right), it should have taken things like this into consideration. The pod racing should allow you to sit on a couch, put two pillows on your legs and support your arms on them.
The idea of a Star Wars VR game seems pretty cool, it's a shame the execution wasn't as great as it could've been but it was a decent attempt. Also, the "I'm Han solo" song is kind of iconic, and the rancor destruction mod is a really neat addition imo
The idea? There’s 2 Star Wars be games. Tales from galaxies edge and my favorite Vader immortal. I always thought Vader was bad ass but let me tell you as someone who is 6’4” when he walks up to you it goes from Vader’s in front of me to omg Vader’s in front of me lol.

There was a Pod Racer Arcade machine back in the day that had a physical cockpit and controls in the style of Anakin’s Pod. I guess this is as close as you can get to a home version of it.
These arcades are very common in São Paulo, the last time I went into the arcade, he was there beatiful as ever. In the golden times of Star Wars marketing I remember some arcades having 4 machines together.

Honestly I remember getting it the day it came out being really excited to play it. And dance number aside I remember it being a pretty decent game with somewhat clunky controls, the dance game was still fun too in a wacky way though. At this point it is the only game I've thought about hooking my kinect up for! You made some really good points I'm gonna have to go and give the game another go! I think I'll enjoy the levels and campaign now having seen more prequels expanded universe
Actually, considering Obi-Wan's hair cut, the final level is NOT set during the Battle of Courusant from Revenge of the Sith. It's right at the start of The Clone Wars a few months after.

Personally I don’t get why people hate Kinect Star Wars. Though the last level did suck it was a very fun game which me and my siblings played. Seriously that was one of my favorite childhood games.
People getting oddly mad over the dancing minigame in Kinect Star Wars still confuses me. It's like everyone just took it seriously as if it weren't just some silly fun side-feature.
This game actually looks like loads of fun! I never had an XBOX, so this was something I never got to experience. Seeing a high-res podracing game gave me some serious feelings just now 😂❤
When I played this game I thought it was a dueling sim that had a few minigames, I've seen the dancing mode but never really played it or the pod racer or even the rancor rampage. The dueling mode and the jedi knight campaign were my bread and butter.
Shame you can't play it without a very specific hardware set up. Much like the DS, the Kinect experience is engineered to create barriers to emulation/preservation. At least the DS hardware is handheld and softmoddable, unlike setting up a 360 with a Kinect to check this one out

Who knows, there is a chance that the tech behind the Sonic Free Riders Kinectless Patch, could be used to make Kinect Star Wars playable without the Kinect. It made Free Riders an enjoyable and playable experience, one which allowed people to actually understand what the game was really like. So who knows, if there is enough push for it, someone might be able to re-work the Kinectless Patch for Free Riders to work with any Kinect game. Though the Free Riders patch only really happened due to it being the last game in the series, and one many people never got the chance to play. Not to mention that as a Sonic game there is already a large community surrounding making the game better, the modding/hacking/decompilation community for Sonic is completely unrivaled in its capability. You would probably have to ask Rei-San the creator of the “No Kinect Patch” if there was any way to use the tools for it with other Kinect games. Of course you would also need a good enough computer to run Xenia and the game itself in order to experience it, so that would still be a bit of a problem for most people.

One of the oddest recurring complaints I hear about the campaign is people talking about the voice acting being "The worst impressions of the characters they ever heard."..... even though it was the actual voice actors from pretty much every other Star Wars game doing the voices. So like, have the big UA-camrs who reviewed this game for the laughs just never seen any other Star Wars THING outside of the main 9 films?
Always liked this game. Kinect games had a well earned reputation for having clunky, unresponsive controls for your body movements. Not saying this one was perfect in that regard, but as Kinect titles go, it was one of the best when it came to responsive control. As a southpaw I was extra impressed it lets you pick which hand you want for your lightsaber and which hand for force powers. Kudos for pointing out how the dance part of this game is supposed to be a fun, not take yourself so seriously joke for Star Wars fans. Agreed that there's a fair bit of hyperbole behind the assignment of the "one of the worst games ever" label, something KST has attracted a fair amount of in spite of seemingly being more mediocre than outright awful. Regardless it was an unsubstantial and underwhelming title released during a period when Lucasarts was facing decline in terms of both sales and artistic merits, although it did sell well heavily contrary to the critical reception. After the Prequel films wrapped up games, or any form of media beyond Clone Wars really, that took full advantage of the Star Wars world were in short supply, even less so than today, so to a fan of the franchise the Kinect game did feel like a bit of a Diablo Immortal situation at the time. Can't say I'd pick it up now either, there's so much better Star Wars stuff in terms of both gameplay and story.
Thank you for showing this game some justice and actually talking about the good parts like the rancor instead of just being like "ha ha, look stoopid cringe dance section!" It ain't perfect, but there are worse games out there.
Lucas arts didn’t let canon get in their. Way of creativity, Disney and ea became beholden to canon to a fault, smothering any sort of really creative ideas.
We should have got a true battlefront 3 instead the games Jedi fallen order and Jedi survivor might be the only two games that actually deserved to be known a Star wars game I wish Star wars would start caring about the fans again instead of supporting discrimination and pandering to slave owners

Kinect was just crap to use as a controller. VR controllers are much better, because it feels more natural with something to hold in your hand, rather than waving your arms like an idiot in air.

Agreed that there's a fair bit of hyperbole behind the assignment of the "one of the worst games ever" label, something KST has attracted a fair amount of in spite of seemingly being more mediocre than outright awful.
Regardless it was an unsubstantial and underwhelming title released during a period when Lucasarts was facing decline in terms of both sales and artistic merits, although it did sell well heavily contrary to the critical reception. After the Prequel films wrapped up games, or any form of media beyond Clone Wars really, that took full advantage of the Star Wars world were in short supply, even less so than today, so to a fan of the franchise the Kinect game did feel like a bit of a Diablo Immortal situation at the time. Can't say I'd pick it up now either, there's so much better Star Wars stuff in terms of both gameplay and story.

Thank you for showing this game some justice and actually talking about the good parts like the rancor instead of just being like "ha ha, look stoopid cringe dance section!" It ain't perfect, but there are worse games out there.
Lucas arts didn’t let canon get in their. Way of creativity, Disney and ea became beholden to canon to a fault, smothering any sort of really creative ideas.

We should have got a true battlefront 3 instead the games Jedi fallen order and Jedi survivor might be the only two games that actually deserved to be known a Star wars game I wish Star wars would start caring about the fans again instead of supporting discrimination and pandering to slave owners

i think id rather play the game if it had something like oh i dunno a CONTROLLER!!!!! seriously sometimes the tried and true methods exist for a reason
Kinect was just crap to use as a controller. VR controllers are much better, because it feels more natural with something to hold in your hand, rather than waving your arms like an idiot in air.
