A payload estimator while building the truck would be awesome. They need to bring back HDPP. The Payload numbers for well optioned Lariat trucks are ridiculous. A few adults, some cargo, and a trailer will put you over.
It's a multi day process to just figure out tow capacity and mpg on these trucks.... Or to learn which models have what level of self driving assist. Headache and obfuscation!
First channel that has told me about the Navigation connectivity loss after 1 year... I SUB'd just because of that. lol! (and because I like your style/format)
The numbers are super nerfed compared to the 2023 truck. I had to do a double take on the payload numbers when the 24 towing guide came out. The biggest sufferers are the low level trim folks that use the truck for work. Both the HDPP and 2.7 PP are gone. I can somewhat understand the HDPP being mixed for simplicity, but the 2.7PP is simply the same frame, suspension and rear end of the 3.5 equipped trucks. It's literally a motor swap. It literally makes the ranger a better buy than the 2.7 equipped F-150s. That's a shame as the 2.7 is an eager workhorse. The light chassis F-150 only ever became a thing because at the time Ford thought the F-150 could replace the Ranger. There's too much product overlap on the low end of the 24 truck, and not enough on the upper end, there by steering more people to either the Ranger or the F-250. It's a head scratcher for sure, and it basically looks like Ford only cares about the Lariat to Platinum crowd. I can't recall any other time a truck lost capacity after a refresh that wasn't due to the switch to J2807 standard.
Last week I picked up a 2024 Lariat PB with 7.2 power on board, tow haul, and mobile office options. It came with 1,525 pound payload. I found Ford Navigation to be mediocre at best, so no way I will pay a subscription for it.
Thanks for pointing out the payload for that build, I'll probably use that reference for my 2025 video! About 200 lbs under the stated max, which is close to what I'd expect with the options you have. Agree with the navigation for sure.. I always go for Waze through CarPlay in every car I drive. How are you liking the truck so far?
Thanks Marlowe! The feature set for the Tow/Haul Package is the new Max Tow - when you get it you'll have the upgraded rear bumper that Max Tow had last year along with the 3.55 or 3.73 rear axle depending on the engine.

Thanks Alex! You'd be reduced but there aren't really exact numbers to quote. The issue you'll run into being 2.5" lower is that your truck will bottom out with a lighter weight. If you have a trailer with a heavy tongue or too much gear in the bed/cabin you run the risk of the wheel rubbing against the sidewall, especially when you go over bumps. For overall weight reduction though.. safe to say cut your capacity in half so you aren't bottoming out
Help Steve! We are in the process of buying a 2024 F150 to tow our new Keystone Cougar 5th Wheel wt empty 7700 lbs. Our 2018 truck would have towed this very well, but can't purchase that configuration anymore. We have found a 2024 F150 Lariat, Supercrew, 4WD, 5.5ft bed with tow haul and 3.5 ecoboost. Wil that pull our fifth wheel with gear? I'm seeing so many numbers, I'm confused. If we order it will take 4 months we were told. They have searched for a week to find this one.
Hey! The max 5th wheel towing capacity is going to depend on the rear axle ratio. If you have the 3.31 or 3.55 in your configuration your max is 8,100 lbs but if it's the 3.73 with the tow/haul package it's 8,800 lbs. You're close to maxing out the available capacity without the tow/haul but even with it that's going to be tight. If you can find one with the 3.55 or 3.73 and the 5.0L V8 you're 9,800 - 10,300 lbs respectively which would give you a great cushion. Keep an eye out for a 5.0L or do a factory order. The last thing you want is to get stuck in a truck that can't handle what you need

You're welcome! Might luck out with some more delivery allowances over the next few months but look for a local high volume dealer. They're usually open to selling under MSRP.. SuperCrew XLT 303a should have between $3-$5k in dealer profit that you can try to negotiate down!

One feature related to trailering is Pro Trailer Backup Assist, which was not covered. If my research is correct that is only available in Lariat or above. It would be the only reason I'd step up to Lariat... I think. Your opinion on this option... worth it?
Pro Trailer Backup Assist is standard in the XLT and up for the 2024 models. Big reason for the jump to the Lariat would be heated/ventilated 1st row seats, power sliding rear window, power pedals, 20" wheels and a few others. As for the worth of the feature... it'll depend on how well you can back up yourself. Having the dial for counter steering is useful but I honestly haven't had the chance to use it because I don't have a need to tow. I'm going to be in a Lightning in a few weeks and am planning on picking up a trailer to test out towing but I'll add a pro trailer video to the list!

Towing question: Can you tell me if I can safely tow a travel trailer with these specs: UVW 5132 HW 634 CCC 1662 with a 2020 F150 8 L 3.55 rt FX4 with Max tow of 9100 and CC of 1727? Thanks.
Assuming the trailer weight is 5,132 lbs and tongue is 634 lbs for that trailer your F150 would handle it no problem. I'd just be careful with extra gear stored inside the truck and so you aren't getting too close to max payload
Steve, I'm looking to pick up a 2024 F150 (XLT/Lariat, SuperCrew, 4x4, 5.6 bed, Tow Package, Truck Cap, Lowest priced group) and towing a Boat/Trailer /Motor at around 3000 lbs. Carrying 2 PAX and about 300lbs of gear. The only time I would be towing is 5 times a year to Ontario from PA, about 950 miles r/t and possibly another 2000-mile r/t thrown in once a year. Other driving would be small town and highway driving other than that. Would you lean more toward the 3.5L EcoBoost or PowerBoost? (I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee w/Hemi so I'm not looking for another V8) Thanks in advance for your opinion.
Either the regular 3.5L EcoBoost or PowerBoost will be able to handle what you're throwing at it but the better fuel economy in the PB would make it worth it. Plus you'd be able to use the truck as a mobile generator just in case!

That shouldn't be the only reason to not look at an F150 though. Most cars I review have factory navigation but I always use Google Maps or Waze through CarPlay
It's on the buyer if they let a dealer screw them though. If I ever see a markup.. I'm out. You're the buyer and if you look hard enough you'll find a dealer willing to work with you. Always a good idea to just get up and leave if you ever feel uncomfortable when buying a car if something seems off

Does the 6.5 bed option usually add or subtract from the payload numbers?
Not necessarily. There are a few configurations where the 6.5' bed will have slightly less, but it works the other way for some configs as well
