J Cole isn't just a "celebrity", he's an artist who's art implies that what's going on in the black community, is something he'd be involved in.
No one is necessarily looking for Chris Tucker at the protest.

Don Lemon called out Chappelle and other celebrities to say something. Chappelle said "“who cares what a celebrity has to say right now" but then spent almost 30 mins on the police brutality issue and everyone watched and raved that he addressed the issue on the streets. Clearly lots of people care..Lemon didn't even respond to the Chappllle calling him out because he got Chappelle to do what he asked him to do.
People had an issue with J Cole because he claimed that he doesn't know enough while he's out there on the streets working his activism. Also for what he perceives as not to know enough of, there are plenty of articles written by fellow activists that he could easily Google or contact them about. He spent half of the track saying how he read her timeline and summarized what he got from it but her tone and her perceived hate in that 1 tweet is what REALLY got to him????
NoName Song 33 showed him how his Snow On That Bluff should have been. Address the main issue like Chappelle then throw a 1 line shade about calling you out.

Mal is right, but I think the other side is right too. Basically what they are saying is the same complaint I had against white friends and etc . You said nothing about the injustice and the countless black people being killed by cops, but you have everything to say about the protest and riots.... if you can’t address the injustice you shouldn’t address the symptom of the injustice.
Well they are saying the same to Cole.... he may be out in the field but he didn’t choose to use his voice in this time to speak up on the more prevalent issues he felt more compelled to address this black woman in a period where that’s not really the most important thing.
So I don’t think what he said was wrong and I agree a lot with mal take, but I also agree with the other side too.
I also agree with J.cole on what he said, and the very things he said in the song has been told to me by black men and women. Very much like Joe said that some “woke” people speak condescending to or about those they perceive as sleep, or sheep, and etc.

Yall missed the point. Narcissists want a socially acceptable way to express their ego, so they do so behind the cloak of a righteous cause. This is what Cole was talking about, and how conveying moral superiority is mistaken as leadership on social media. Belittling "lesser" people in the name of your ego is counterproductive to any movement. Cole shared one of the more profound messages that people needed to hear, but of course yall simplified it to the same identity politics bullshit ("black woman" this, "white man" that)

How was her tweet toxic if she did t say names. Cole made a song about an old tweet that had no personal attachment and made a whole song.He tweeted out basically he only trying to be deep and not worried wether what he says is factual long as it sounds good. That’s the toxic level because on things of this nature in these times you shouldn’t play with it especially when it’s documented that he flirts and benefits from the aesthetics of activism.

Kimmminem West She wasn’t shot and oppression isn’t the context of the conversation. This is about being accountable for what you say & how you say it. She sent out a tweet that subliminally dissed certain rappers. Because she didn’t put a name on it ANYBODY & EVERYBODY HAS A RIGHT TO RESPOND. When speaking as an adult to other adults it is always best to address the person or situation you are speaking to/about so it won’t lead to any confusion or misunderstandings. Secondly Cole & Kendrick were out there weeks before she tweeted that. It’s been reported by multiple news outlets as well the multitude of things Cole has done in his hometown of Fayetteville. So what exactly has anyone gone through that gives them the right to slander or make comments about ppl of their own race without proper research or background info??🤨😒😑

He wasn’t divisive he message was correct, but it’s about perspective. When I saw folk upset I stopped what I was doing and went listened to the song, and said I see nothing wrong, so I then said let me go see why they are upset.
Once I did that I said ya know they do have a point. It’s really no different than your white friends and etc who said nothing about the injustice but they have everything to say about the protest and riots . Only difference is Cole is out there, but it’s the same things. It’s not that what he said is wrong, but it’s that he feels more compelled to address her rather than the fact that even recently that a black woman was sexually assaulted and killed(by a black man) who was out protesting... or how a black dude took a skateboard and knocked a black woman out and walked off while other black dudes stood around laughing and etc, along with the protest and etc going on.
So with all that especially being someone who seems deep and that he was out there you would think he felt more about that to write rather than her...
That’s why they are upset. It’s not that what he said is wrong it’s just he could have said a multitude of other things.

In a time where everyone who can say something has to say something now even silence is offensive. But no one ever stop to consider maybe he/she is shutting up so I can speak because he/she is self-aware. Self-aware enough to realize that their lack of knowledge may prove more detrimental than helpful, should they speak up. But everybody's on the Quick Draw with their phones and so eager to add their voices to conversations they shouldn't be a part of. Actions don't speak louder than words anymore that's one thing I've learned. Someone saying the most relevant, poignant, articulate, educated things do nothing to support their stance. But people listen. Someone silent but Physically Active trying to make the impact they would like to see in the world. People forget. Disputes like this shed light on one critical flaw in the movement for equality. We expect perfect allies and for people we like or admire to be infallible. And it can be the Doom of this entire movement. Perspective has become a rare Earth element and it's almost gone.

Anytime a topic like this comes up they tow the exact same line...it's annoying and cowardly. Even after Joe and Mal tried to press them and make them focus on Noname's role, they refused.
At the end of the day Noname has enough "clout" to reach out to the rappers she was blasting and help them to galvanize their influence. this would've been so much more effective. instead she chose to "shame" them (funny how women like to use that term so much). And with that tone comment, his thing was " im good with your telling me how you feel but what you're not gonna do is talk to me like you're better." There is no way I can see a man speaking to a woman with tone being involved without women getting offended because of the world we are in.

To be honest, a lot of BW can be "attacky" in delivery. Angry BM especially, but as a BW who cares about Black Women's issues, I'm still not scared to admit that. Maybe managing that would help BW better get their points across.

Keep in mind also TONE has been a historical trigger for black women. Think of the many Sterotypes developed by white culture including neck-snapping and abrasiveness attacking their Tone. He used a trigger word the same as telling a woman to "calm down" in an argument.

In his defense, he may not have known that. J Cole said himself that he doesn't have all the answers, which is why he hasn't been vocal on social media aside from responding to NoName.

When addressing someone, you do it respectfully. Tone plays a part in whether what you say sounds respectable or disrespectful, and condescending. I don't see how grown folks (especially black folks), can sit up here and act like this isn't something that's either correct it Immediately( in the beginning of a discussion), or leads to an unfinish discussion coming to an abrupt conclusion. Because no one is going to sit idly by and allow someone to speak to them any type of way.
You tell your kids to watch their tone, but also speak to your children with one. It's a chicken and an egg scenario

Black Women are great & amazing, BUTTTTTTTTT why cant a black man speak his honest opinion without getting judged? Cole been that dude to speak out and be honest with his audience, but when he disagrees with a black women about her tone on speaking about him and others that becomes a problem. When he writes a heart-felt honest response with no aggression in it, people wanna cancel him. Like Foh

A lot of these so called "pro black" people are so arrogant and so uppity. J Cole is a true lyricist and emcee he did what a true emcee/lyricist does put his feelings into a song....Heterosexual black men are just on the chopping block we can't disagree with a black woman without being attacked or criticized for being misogynistic or just hating women in general...

  • @TheCelticD

I don't agree with anybody saying the song is sexist, but part of Cole's message IS to "Get off your high horse". The other part of the message is "Show us how we can do better." which can also be interpreted as a snarky. It's like when you're doing something your way, and someone tells you "Nah don't do it like that." And then you snap back "Well why don't you show me how to do it since you have an opinion?!" But I'd like to think Cole was being sincere with that message.
All in all, I don't think Cole was wrong for making the track, and I don't feel like people were wrong for feeling some kind of way, but I don't think it's a beef.
