Thank you Filipe your videos gave me a lot of information about Obsidian but I am still confused on how to structure my hierarchy files. No point in having folder as they will not show in graph in hierarchy structure, no point in having sub tags as in graph they will not show parent child relation. Only way to structure hierarchy which will be displayed in graph is having links and backlins. Is that right or I am missing something? Thank you!
You are right Mike. Some people still like folders and that's fine. Personally I prefer to throw a new note in the pile and find another one that I can link it to. If there's none, I link to the daily note. If the thing requires hierarchy I create a central note with all the links in bullet points representing the hierarchy (topic 1 -> topic 1.1 -> topic 1.2 and so on). Tags only to track status (to-process, done, etc). I hope it helps :)
I use folders for mutually exclusive categories. I’ve been using Obsidian for worldbuilding, so I have folders for Characters, Groups (organizations), Locations, Items, and Lore (events and trivia). Then I use the Groups feature of the node display to color the nodes by folder. It helps me recognize the type of entity at a glance.
@@AlexPBenton, I am coming from the folderless Roam Research and I think folders in Obsidian will be useful. Sometimes I do not want to search but browse a folder.
@@RyanNagy You can always open the raw folder that your notes are saved in, though I wouldn’t recommend moving any existing files around that way because you might break the links
Filipe, thank you so much for your Obsidian tutorials. Before I discovered you, I watched so many other videos that just confused me. You have managed, with just a few videos, to help me understand Obsidian and decide on the filling method that’s best for me. A big ‘Thank You’ and keep up the good work. Mary. 🥰
Great video and explanation of the topic! I've watched dozens of other Obsidian videos since discovering your channel, and you are still one of the best 😊
What is the best way to structure & organize notes if I am accumulating reference materials for research? 4:17 Do you recommend any videos on how to use Obsidian to gather together & organize research? Do you have any tips on how to work with different sources such as books, online articles, UA-cam videos, and pictures? Everybody explains their Obsidian workflow for taking notes but I’d like to learn more about how to use Obsidian for research purposes. I want to gather information & organize it in a way where I can make connections more easily. It’s very easy to get lost when collecting research material because everything is scattered. I’d like to learn ways that I can use Obsidian to better understand the bigger picture, even when I’m dealing with information from many different sources and sub-topics.
devon think, Roam research, and Logseq are some other apps that researchers use. You can look for their way of organization through tutorials and apply them in your obsidian, because as i also saw, currently most obsidian tutorials are about content creation not research.
You have a new follower! Everything is too clear, when you start, you generally want to have everything very controlled and you get frustrated in the process, "just write notes, then you will see how you organize them" is the best, so you adapt to your way of working! success!
Cool! A new platform that has no programming done and I get to do 90% programming and 5% note taking and 5% questioning why I wake up in the morning!! COOOOOLLLLLLLLLL
I have a problem with the program, because I need to organize my notes in folders that are inside other folders and with that, they are not organized in a hierarchical way, it seems like a lie, but it is not. I've been looking for a solution or plugin and I can't find it. My notes and folders really need to be hierarchical, because the content I'm studying follows an order (it's Grammar). Where can I find a solution?
Where can we see a master list of tags? For example if I want to delete a tag that's no longer in use in any documents, does it disappear by itself? Thanks
Folders and links work if you have documents like PDFs in your vault. Tags do not work....yet. Just as I would like other document types to be recognized by obsidian.
Hi, how do you suggest to make notes of a project or specific subject and makeing update on the note when there is one (ex: meeting, decision by email...) I was thinking in using a header with the day the update occurred and putting the update information .... Would be something like . ... # date2 Information and updates # date1 Information and updates ----- Is there a better solution?
Hi Daniel. Your solution is good and I do something similar. The note is like a "changelog" with all relevant updates about the topic/project. Sometimes I create a new note when some update branches off from the original topic, with a link connecting both so I can understand the context. I hope it helps ✌️
@@FilipeDonadio do you have any way to make a shortcut to add date do the note? I have a daily note and then use project/meeting notes with the changelog off a subject.

You are speaking to people who already have similar knowledge about obsidian as you. Can you teach actually how to link, tag by demonstrating? Sorry this video is not helping someone who wants to learn how to do
Thanks for the feedback. The video is more than 1 year old and it’s obvious that now that Obsidian is popular people know more about the topic. It was not like this in 2021. I plan to make more videos about tags and links soon.

Anyone know what plugin is being used to add colors to nodes within the graph view as seen in the video 5:36?
That was very helpful!

Os números são apenas para que fiquem em ordem de prioridade

Thanks for the video!!, is there any way to put links only in a bullet point of a note, and insert only a bullet point of a note in a different note?

You need to enable the tag pane in the core plugins

Atom. But I'm constantly changing themes
How do you enlarge certain nodes in the graph view? Such as your home node.
It enlarges automatically according to the number of links to that note

I use color groups in the graph view settings (small gear button on top left corner)

Just put [[]] if you want to link files (example: In ‘File A’, type [[File B]] so it would link to ‘File B’).
