Chilean tenor saxophonist Melissa Aldana won the prestigious Thelonius Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition and is the first female instrumentalist to take the prize. JazzTimes says of Aldana, “it’s not too soon to call her great. She owns the future.”

Melissa's such a skilled, inventive and soulful player. The anticipation of where she's going is always like an adventure and full of surprises... with no cliches or overused devices and gorgeous tone to match. One thing that might rival her playing is her ability as a composer. Wonderful.
