    It definitely reminded me of the Painted Hills here in Oregon only on a larger scale. I can only imagine what that scene would be in the Summer at the height of tourist season. I like the before and after images as it shows that you do have a deft touch with your post processing. Subtle warming up and bringing out the details versus cranking up the saturation like so many images I see on the internet. Well done Adam and Karyn!
    What a fantastic adventure to share together and thanks for sharing it with us! It will be interesting to see what you can do with the 200-500mm going forward. Cheers!

  • @PhilThach
    @PhilThach 5 років тому +1

    I'm excited that you picked up a 200-500 f/5.6. I really love mine and though I bought it mostly for wildlife, I find myself using it for all sorts of photography. I even use it for near macro stuff both with and without a teleconverter. It is perhaps the best bang for the buck lens in the Nikon line-up in my opinion. Be careful with it in the rain, I don't trust it's weather sealing very much. If it gets wet at 500mm, I make sure to dry it off before retracting it back to 200mm. I really enjoy your videos and photography. I think Hardcastle is mistaken, you don't seem grumpy at all to me. best, -Phil

    Haha, good one. One of the most funny things I saw while travelling the world was in Cusco, where some local agencies advertised a trip to the Rainbow Mountain (there's also one near Cusco) with oversaturated photos from the Rainbow Mountains in China ;-) Another nice find is Mu Cang Chai in Vietnam. You'll find a lot of stretched and oversaturated content on google.

    The 200-500 is indeed a great lens. I use it all the time for birds and wildlife, but once in a while I do point it towards a mountain and take a landscape shot. Also, I don't think Nikon has introduced any upgrade in the lens since it's launch, so as long as it's a good copy, you're good. Loved that dark moody shot at 9:09

    I also found these oversaturated images some time ago on the interweb and thought I would like to go to that place as well. Thanks for the reality check Adam, great video. The transition from raw to processed image was very interesting. The best time to shoot in a place like that, with long lenses is as early as possible - soon after sunrise you will see atmospheric disturbances with long focal lengths which degrade the image sharpness significantly when the sun heats the surface of the hills. Thanks for sharing.

    To my eye the flat-light example at 7:30 works quite well as abstract art in the Helen Frankenthaler/Morris Lewis mode. I could envision it as an oversized print, perhaps even on matte or semi-matte paper to enhance the flatness. Well done.

    Adam,
    A nice visit through your eyes. I do believe the saturation slider was rather "enthusiastically" applied in the photos yielded by your initial Google search. The telephoto abstracts are quite intriguing once the light started to get low on the horizon -- very "Painted-Deserty."
    As far as being thrown-out, I'll just comment that I've been thrown out of much nicer places than that, so don't fret over it!
    Karen's closing footage is a treat!
