1057-1063 Wales was ruled in its entirety by Welsh king Gruffydd. Granted this is only 6 years but for those 6 years it would have been recognised as a Kingdom. True story 👌
It still is...look up a video called..."an explanation to Welsh sovereignty" by a channel called Cymru/Wales
Yes it is we celebrate it every 1st of Martch we're I live here in Wales
Good listen ❤❤
Happy St.davids day !!

The Welsh flag isn't represented on the flag of the United Kingdom, this is because Wales, unlike England, Scotland and Ireland was never a Kingdom. When the UK was formed, Wales was already part of England and was a Principality instead.
State emblem of Indonesia is called Garuda Pancasila. The main part of the coat of arms is the golden mythical bird Garuda with a shield on its chest and a scroll gripped by its leg bears the national motto: "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika", roughly means "Unity in Diversity". The shield's five emblems represent Pancasila, the five principles of Indonesia's national philosophy. The numbers of feathers was meant to symbolize the date of Indonesian Proclamation of Independence; 17 feathers on each wings, 8 tail feathers, 19 upper tail feathers (under the shield, above the tail), and 45 neck feathers; all symbolize 17-8-1945; 17th August 1945.
Incorrect. On so many levels. The reason the Welsh flag is not currently represented on the Union Jack is actually very simple.
Firstly, let's address the part where she says that Wales was never a kingdom. This is incorrect. Wales was an independent, and unified kingdom under the rule of Gruffydd ap Llywelyn. And secondly, we need to address the part where she says 'When the UK was formed, Wales was already part of England and was a principality instead.' So wrong. So incorrect, it's shameful. And it never fails to amaze me how many people, especially English people, don't understand the difference between 'The Kingdom of England' and 'England'. It's their own history, something that the people of England should be educated on, and the fact that they regularly use those two terms interchangeably, only shows how ignorant they are to their past. Which is very sad.
So, let's be clear, Wales was NEVER a part of England. And here's why.
After Edward I's conquer in Wales in 1284, until Henry VIII's Laws in Wales Acts were passed in 1542, Wales was split into various regions, each of them governed differently from each other. The Norman Marcher Lords (descendants of the Normans who conquered parts of Wales in the 11th century) governed themselves in their various Welsh conquered-regions, while the section in North and Mid Wales that Edward I conquered from the Welsh in 1284, was labelled a principality because he gifted it to his eldest son and heir (who was a prince) to rule. The definition of a principality is a state that is ruled and governed by a prince. Hence, a principality was born in North and Mid Wales at this time, by Edward I.
But it didn't last, because in 1542, Henry VIII abolished the principality in North and Mid Wales, and instead, united all the regions of Wales into one unified country, while finally defining the all-important border between Wales and England - the exact same border that is still recognised today. Wales was then brought into the sovereign state of the Kingdom of England (which after 1542, was made up of the separate nations of Wales and England), and twenty-seven Welsh MPs were introduced into Parliament, finally giving Wales an equal political voice on the running of its country - something that hadn't been allowed to happen since Edward I's conquer in 1284. So the Laws in Wales Act of 1542 was actually the beginning of the United Kingdom that we all know today. And in 1707, the Kingdom of Scotland came on board, and in 1801, Ireland joined too.
So her statement 'When the UK was formed, Wales was already a part of England and was a principality instead', is horribly and grossly inaccurate. When the UK was formed, Wales was a part of the sovereign state of the Kingdom of England, NOT England! England is a nation, and Wales has NEVER been a part of it! And Wales WASN'T a principality when the UK was formed, as it ceased being a principality in 1542, and the UK was formed in 1801 (Great Britain in 1707)! Honestly, her inaccuracies are shameful!
So the reason the Welsh flag is not seen on the Union Jack is because, although the red dragon has been a symbol of the Welsh for nearly two thousand years, the St George's Cross was the symbol of the sovereign state of the Kingdom of England - which Wales was an equal member of alongside the nation of England - when it merged with the Kingdom of Scotland in 1707 (the Scottish and English crowns had already merged a hundred years previous to this, with the first version of the Union Jack created in 1606). So during the merger, the nation of Wales, along with the nation of England, were both represented by the St George's Cross. At the time, it made political sense, because the cross symbolised a kingdom that Wales and England were equal members of. But of course, with the abolition of the Kingdom of England in 1707, and after the first version of the Union Jack had already been created, the St George's Cross quickly went back to only being a symbol of the nation of England; a nation which Wales has NEVER been a part of, and this is why Wales is no longer seen to be represented on the Union Jack, and hasn't been since pretty much the flag's creation.
So in short, Wales became an equal member of the sovereign state of the Kingdom of England in 1542, but has NEVER been a part of England. 'The Kingdom of England' was a sovereign state that was made up of the separate nations of Wales and England from 1542, until its abolition in 1707. And 'England' is a nation that is currently one-fourth of the sovereign state of the United Kingdom. Both are completely different!
And the fact that Wales currently has its own devolved government, while England is still wholly governed by a mix of Welsh, Scottish, Northern Irish, and English MPs, only shows how Wales is actually more of a country than England is.
And did I read in the video description 'Join Gina for a dose of English culture'?! When did St David's Day become a part of English culture? Did I miss another invasion, conquer, and mass genocide inflicted on to the people of Wales by England?
Spot on! There is a good video on the history of these subjects called "an Explanation of Welsh sovereignty" by a channel called Cymru/Wales.
Taffy Ducks Thanks for the recommendation, I'll go and check that out. Happy St David's Day!
so useful!!!!!!!!!!!
No so wrong on every level. Please look again at Welsh History and try not to listen to this kind of English fairy tail
Hi Gina,
My answer for the quiz is because the Welsh flag isn't represented on UK flag because Welsh is unlike England, Scotland and Ireland was never a Kingdom. When UK was formed, Wales was already part of England.

Since when has St David's Day been an English holiday!!!
Liz Perrott What's the problem with this, aren't they all part of the United Kingdom?
SkeetsOfLegend Wales is not and never will be a part of England. Why can't people get this right. Do you consider Scotland or N.Ireland as part of England...No. United Kingdom yes but not England.
@@skeetsoflegend99 Yes, we are all a part of the United Kingdom. But we are not all a part of England. England only makes up one-fourth of the United Kingdom. The other three are Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland; all separate countries with their own languages, cultures, history, and traditions. So St David's Day is a Welsh holiday, NOT an English one.
bollocks the reason why the welsh flag isn't on union flag is that the welsh flag is pagan because it's so old and the other flags are Christian with Crosses and Wales is a kingdom because the Head of state is the queen and not the prince of Wales
Gwyn Williams please elaborate further if you can. Very interested in your point of view. I know this is 2 years old but if you still use this account Gwyn, what else can you share along these lines? Diolch yn fawr

Your video description is downright rude - I quote 'Join Gina for a dose of English Culture. Also you refer to it as an English holiday. Whilst the video itself is fine factually (to a point) you need to rewrite this description. It is about British culture and the nations within it
Christianity came to Britain in 37ad under Llid now Llanilid in Glamorgan
Yep...The first Christian Church is in Glamorgan.
Dewi Sant
You mean St davids day Welsh holiday
I learned that English people will stop at nothing to but the Welsh down. Even if it means feeding this kind of propaganda to people across the world.
Wales, Scotland and Ireland -celtic tribe. England are anglo saxon of germanic tribe. Never the two shall meet. Separate youselves from the pagan english.
Your leeks are spring onions
Actually, the Wales used to be a kingdom but it was destroyed by the mighty army of Anglo-Saxons.
st davids is not an english celebration it is welsh namely one for beating and resisting none other than the english to assume otherwise is Ahistorical and ludicrously incorrect

Are you sure that is a leek? Looks like a spring onion.
This was a very poor lesson, from my point of view. The complicated history of Wales and its difficult relationship with England is sanitized and presented in the most technical and superficial way possible. Even beginning learners of English are entitled to a more honest explanation than this.
St Davids day, Dydd Gwyl Dewi in Welsh, is a WELSH holiday and is not English! (Britain is made of 4 countries, not just 'England'!)
A ridiculous explanation of why the Ddraig Goch ( National Flag of Cymru) is not on the Union Jack. ‘Was already part of England’? Please, if you are going to ‘educate’ people, then do so correctly.
Bollocks !
Wales isn’t a part of England get it right 😡
Disgusting, Dydd Gwyl Dewi (St David’s Day) is a WELSH Celebration not English
Not English!
