    My gal and I have been watching Little House in order lately from the beginning. Haven't seen them except in occasional random re-run episodes in decades... and I gotta admit, the damn show has us hooked and moved way more often than we were anticipating. Of course we know many of them but I guess it's just weird how differently I related to much of what goes on in the episode as a much older person than I did back then. Not surprisingly really, but the show just has a lot more depth than I thought it did. So there Nancy - we love that show. :D

      I just give Nancy a hard time but I do like the tv show. We watched it growing up all the time. I still clearly remember the episode when Mary woke up blind. Freaked me out as a kid!

      @@ThatBaldwinLife Same here - I remember that one vividly eh! But yeah, I guess I was just surprised how much l genuinely really liked it *now* when actively sitting down to watch it. It's def been more than just nostalgia. :)

    Do you find the swivelling Captain's seat to be a 'must' on your van? We have only got fixed seats and are wondering whether to go to the expense! You looked so comfortable on that windy night snuggled up in that chair!

      For us, yes they are a must have as we camp year round and it is so nice to spin it around and open up our living area that much more. I like to sit there in the mornings and drink my coffee and read while Nancy sleeps in. I would say if you get the chance to install them, you will wonder why you waited so long.
      Take care!

    How funny. I bought the 9 book set recently for my granddaughter. I loved the show too!
    Nice camping trip, even if cold. What was the heater you used?

      Little House has always been one of our favorites. We use a gasoline heater made by Espar that pulls gas from our gas tank. It is amazing.

    Where did you get your window insulation? Would you recommend? Or, is it homemade?

    • @ThatBaldwinLife
      @ThatBaldwinLife  3 роки тому +1

      The window insulation in this video is home made. We have since moved on to the GoWesty window insulation you can see a bit in our Painted Hills video. We have a full review of the GoWesty insulation coming out this weekend if you want to check it out.

    My fiance and I live in Portland and we have an 81' Westy (@sandysunshineventures). Poor girl spends more time in the shop than us behind the wheel. Been to half a dozen different shops so far, but still haven't found one that makes us confident it will make a trip over 4 hours. Suggestions? Thanks! Also, loved the video!

      Thanks for the feedback on the video! The old air cooled Westys are a bit tougher to find good mechanics than the newer water cooled ones for sure. They are a weird combo of old air cooled tech and newer VW fuel injection. I do all of my own work but the only person who has touched my van is Dave at D&M Automotive in Beaverton. Not sure how he is with air cooled but he may be with a try. The best thing would be to learn to do the work on your own that way when you do break down, you can feel more confident in getting it back on the road. VW- Making mechanics out of drivers since 1949. :)

      There was an excellent book by John Muir titled something like the idiots guide to air cooled VWs might be worth trying to find one loads of info and some humorous tales too.

    Can you share any details on the engine. Van looks great

    • @ThatBaldwinLife

      Hey Chris. We have the stock Waterboxer engine but it was rebuilt by Rocky Jennings in Walla Walla, Wa to be a 2.2L instead of the 2.1L. He also puts in a more aggressive cam and port matches the intake and other performance upgrades. We coupled it with the Rock Mountain Westy exhaust but we put on a larger Flowmaster muffler to quiet it down a bit. Performs pretty well overall for being a stock like configuration. Thanks for the compliments!

      Agreed! We are a bit antsy to get back up to Canada this year and explore some more. Hopefully by the summer we can do that.
