😍😍😍👌👌👌👍👍♥️♥️
Hey Nate. I am changing my ATF and read a post on The Samba about filling the transmission through the dipstick tube. Thoughts? Thanks.
Love!!! C u soon!!
Thanks Dana! It was a great trip. See you guys soon! Nate
We used to plan our trips. During COVID we decided to just go. Whenever the government lifted the restrictions we just went. No planning, just headed out. They were some of the best trips that we had been on. Most of our trips now are not planned. Great way to go adventurig. Such a great spot to spend the night.
Yep! Just pack up and explore. We got pretty lucky that there was no one up there camping already. Nate
Hey, where could I find that puller tool at 7:25?
It is a tie rod puller and you can get them at most tool shops or auto parts places. Nate
Yea. Can relate. Years ago lost my best friend and climbing partner of 20 years. Ya kinda assume these closest of friends will be around when you are an old guy - AND GO ON VAN ADVENTURES! And a long time pet is like another family member. Best to you both. Keep plugging along. Peace and comfort.
So sorry to hear about your friend. That’s how I thought, he will be there forever. Didn’t turn out like that. Appreciate the support. Nate
VW engine? I love my aircooled westfalia... but the footage of that climb made my hands sweat. Have had a few scary situations on steep FSR's where the engine just couldn't make it, no way to turn around, having to back down 😬
Yep, 2.2L WBX engine. We've had a few of those climbs up at 11K feet when our engine was a bit down on power. That is never any fun! nate
Hey, I didn’t remember you had a synchro, is that new… to you? Great vid. Since you have a synchro can you let us 2Wd’s know if you used synchro on those roads.
If you look close, you can see the badge say SyncNO! :) No syncro here. Still have our old 2wd Westy! nate
Great video! Nancy did great going up that hairy dirt road. Cool to see the historic lookout building intact. Glad you got to enjoy yourselves despite the roadblocks!
Glad you enjoyed it Nancy is a great driver even though she gets a bit nervous in some situations. Thanks for watching! nate
GPS coordinates?
Hey thanks for reaching out! We don't give out locations of places that are not well known just so they do not get over run. Hope you understand. Also, we have heard this place has been closed due to a locked gate on the road. :( nate
Do you know the size of the npt fitting that threads from the vans hardlines into the regulator? I’m looking to just run a grille tank via hose direct to the van
The regulator I purchased has a 1/4” pipe thread inlet and a 3/8” pipe thread outlet. Not sure about the stock regulator. Nate
Happy Birthday Nate! Glad to see ya'll out and about again on new adventures. Did ya'll get new wheels and tires?
Thank you! Same wheels and tires but we used Dipyourcar to spray the wheels in the bronze color. Nate
Great Video and Happy Birthday Nate!
Thanks!!! 🍺🍺 Nate
Thanks Nate. Great information! Was gonna do a TA rebuild but realized my 1990 has the upgraded gear so no pressure to rebuild it before 150K miles. So, just changed TA oil to Swepco 202 from Redline. Really noticing a big difference in shifting. Also upgraded to the GW SS fill and drain caps (not plugs). Both have magnets and all new threads. Recently had the linkage bushings upgraded to teflon and that makes a huge difference. Evidently the old style bushings absorb moisture and get tight. Teflon won't do that. BTW-did you two upgrade to a Synchro? Thought it looked like that on your recent video to the fire lookout.
The Swepco is a great oil, it’s all we use now. We have not done the Teflon bushings but may look into that! Nope still out 2wd but we put on our SyncNO badge 😁
Inspiring! Thanks and welcome back
Appreciate that! Glad to be back exploring. Nate
Loved. Loved. Loved this video! Happy Belated Birthday 🎉
Thank you 🙏🏻 and thanks for watching. Nate
Hey Nate nice video😊 are you 4x4 or 2wd????
As you figured out, we have a 2wd. Nate
Glad you're both back on the road and smiling again. Adventure heals a lot of wounds. Great video! I found out there's a fire tower on JBLM that is VRBO-able. Have fun!
Thanks! Agreed, getting out did us some good. That have some lookout towers in Oregon that you can reserve and sleep in as well. Sounds fun! Nate
Another great one, very inspiring and wonderful to have you back!
Appreciate that!! Nate
Awesome as always from you guys! Happy birthday! I hope it was a great one! You guys are so inspirational! Thanks so much for sharing your adventures with us 🚐
Thank you, that means a lot to us. I had a great bday and it was nice to be out camping again. Take care Nate
What a great spot up there. Nice driving Nancy. Happy belated Birthday Nate. Thanks for bringing me along.
Thanks! Yeah Nancy did an awesome job for sure! Nate
Great call on the crispy fried onions in the burrito/wrap!! Both Kim and I went “😮 ohhh yeah “ at the same time!!!!😅
😂😂 they are the best, right! Nate
Wow, what epic views!! I’d be so sketched out on that little road! Happy belated birthday 🥳
Nancy crushed it huh? Next time you see her, give her a high five for that! 😁 Nate
That mountain climb was epic! My stomach was in my throat, just watching it! Love the "Syncno" badge 😅
Nancy did a great job driving up that. That top corner was a bit sketchy. Nothing the Syncno can’t handle 😁 Nate
Ya, that’s a scary climb in a Vanagon 😬
It was pretty intense for a bit! Nate
The reason I prefer winter camping, less people
Winter camping is pretty amazing. We are looking forward to getting out this fall and winter for some cold nights and quiet forests. Nate
Wow! Not sure my Syncno would have done as well! Great to see the “joie de vie” after all that your family have endured. Yeah! Still the nicest (and most capable) Westy on the internet in my opinion! Thanks for taking us with, the panoramic views were awesome!
🙏🏻 Thank you. It was a fun road to get up with a great reward waiting for us at the top! It was a much needed get away and helped us a lot. Thanks for watching! Nate
Loving that Syncno badge! 👌
Thanks! I have to give credit to my buddy Dave from VanagonLife who has that decal on the Descend van! nate
A new "syncno" badge and new rims?
I sprayed the wheels with Dipyourcar Plastidip and made the SyncNo badge from a few Syncro badges from Syncrofest 😁 Nate
Another one added to my list, thanks!
It pretty amazing up there! Nate
What a nice video, new wheels and syncro?
Same wheels but I coated them with Dipyourcar paint. Still our 2wd SyncNO Nate
Didn’t catch that.
😁
Ok I did see that der, just read other comments 😅😅
2WD SYNCRO?!😂
If you look close, it says SyncNO 😁 Nate
did you guys paint your wheels?
Yes kinda. We painted the with Plastidip type paint from Dipyourcar. Nate
Great adventure, always look forward to you guys. Dispersed spots are getting harder to find for sure. Happy Birthday!
Appreciate that. Thank so much for watching. It was a great bday! Nate
Nice work! Skillful driving to the top. Glad you didn't meet anyone on the way down. That might have been a challenge.
Yes it was! She did a great job for sure. It would have been interesting meeting another vehicle on that one section! Nate
Nice seeing you guys again. Thank's for the video, fantastic as usual....
Our pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it Nate
Another great story, thanks for sharing it!
Glad you enjoyed it! Nate
Welcome back 😊
Thank you 😁 Nate
You are greate. Can't wait to see my syncro finished and start adventuring.
Thanks! Nate
Best video explaining how to reassemble. I have mine off now waiting for new boots. Very helpful. It is a messy job with all that grease.
Glad it was helpful! Nate
Sooo sorry to hear of your losses and the affect that it has had on you both and your family. Take whatever time you need to heal, and when you are ready, well all be here, subscribed and ready to share your next adventrue. Until then take care.
Thank you so much. Appreciate the support Nate
I am glad to hear that out of all this, it has brought you two closer.
Thank you 🙏🏻 Nate
Sharing your experience with grieving and mental health will help many others face their own trials and losses.❤
I agree and I hope this helps others start talking about their own mental health concerns. nate
I'm so sorry for your losses! Thank you for being real! Sounds like you may be slowing down a bit and paying attention to your mind. That's a good thing! You have an amazing resource: Portland Friends of the Dhamma www.pdxdhamma.org Looks like they have a program starting in September with the monks. These guys are the real deal! These practices and teachings have helped me tremendously in dealing with depression and anxiety. May you be well 🙏💖
Thank you for the kind words and yes we have been slowing down and paying attention to not only our mind, but our emotions as well. Thank you for the resource. nate
Life goes on til it doesnt. We dont know when so enjoy the moment. Love yall.
Yes it does… Love ya
Great video Nate! Is your TA just a stock rebuild from GTA?
We had it rebuilt at GTA then done again a few years later by AA when we had the Peloquins installed. Nate
Ounce of prevention worrh a pound of cure!
For sure!
Sending you soooo much love, and hugs, and good energy!!! The Lasswell Pack has been on a journey of its own. We completely understand the strengthening of the bond of love. So grateful you have each other. 24 years for us. You're an amazing team and we look forward to a time we can just "be" all together in a forest somewhere again. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you, we look forward to that very much. Hope things are looking up for you guys. ❤️ Nate and Nancy
12:38 - So at the end of the ride up that road (King's Peak?), did you find that your 2.2L Westy was enough motor? Any overheating issues? Looks like from a couple shots you were able to keep her at 3,000RPM's (or above) so as not to bog down. Finally, do you have an auxiliary cooler on your transmission?
Yes plenty of power if you plan ahead and not stall it out. Slip the clutch if needed but 1st gear was plenty for all of the climbs. We have a manual transmission so no tranny cooler for us. Nate
