Hey everybody Aaron here with Brain Dead 13, one of my favorite odd games. I'm playing the Sega Saturn version for you. And you're thinking "But Aaron, the Sega Saturn isn't in HD you idiot". Well through a combination of custom made NTSC SCART cables to HDMI converters, I have upscaled the video to 720p.

I would love to see a Braindead13 movie done in this style. You don't really get these traditional looking animation anymore. Shame too, the animation here is beautifully fluid.
Lance reminds me of Bugs Bunny.
I know, I really loved the idea of games like this as a kid. It was really entertaining to watch, and since it doesn't have traditional levels, took me a very long time to beat, so it was also like a puzzle game. It also perfectly walks that border between horrifying and funny perfectly. This was so much fun to record and edit, I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
They should made this movie and another movie of Liz from brain dead 13 of his own movie
I remember seeing ads for this game in magazines when I was a teen. I'm glad to not only see it in action, but in its entirety! I like the fun and spooky setting, the self-aware gags, and the mute henchman Fritz that doggedly pursues Lance throughout the story. The animation goes from excellent to just okay, the pacing sometimes doesn't feel right, and the 90s attitude is embarrassing, but I can tell the creators had a ton of fun putting it together.
Thanks for the comment! Yeah I remember seeing this in gaming magazines, but it was only for 3DO, so I had to buy it the moment I saw it on Sega Saturn so I know what you mean! This game would have been phenomenal to work on.
This FLV videogames are amazing. Ever since Dragon's Lair I'm constantly amazed by what they deliver. This in particular is a gem!
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! As a kid, I was always fascinated by these kinds of games. I remember seeing Dragon's Lair in magazines and wanted to play it really badly. So when I saw this in stores ages ago, I had to buy it. I became hooked instantly. To this day I still haven't gotten a copy of Dragon's Lair 1 or 2, nor Space Ace. It's a shame this game got overlooked because it's great!

I feel like Fritz would be able to easily take over this castle if he was just a tiny bit smarter. Throughout the game, Dr. Neurosis poses practically no threat by himself. The only threat he poses is in so far that he can order Fritz around.
Ending made me feel like I was watching Mortal Kombat. XD

Honestly, while editing this I had to look at all the ridiculous crap that falls out of Fritz and I shook my head haha
You know.. I'd like for this to be given a revival or even a sequel. Rather than being a Reaction timed game all the time, You actually have some Puzzle solving tasks that need to be done too.

+MertHacks whynotboth.gif anyone remember captain power? Yeah, that but a 'toon! Would work great with a wiimote.
(basically the same style but as a 'serial' where how well you did on previous deliveries + the order you did them in changes a few things in the others, would feel more natural than with a pad as you're directly guiding him...kinda like using a laser pointer on a cat!)

Very nicely done playthrough and a nice bonus death montage at the end. Though you forgot one death that includes Fritz pouncing on Lance and thanks to an egg beater attached to his hand, he trims all of Lance's hair and later we see him with half is hair, a black eye and full of scratches before he gets pulled by Fritz again.
i love the premise of this game, with the cartoony horror gore and gross outs and stuff.
but it's executed so poorly.
how the hell is the player supposed to know what to press the first time through?! at least dragons lair gave you a visual cue. this is just, try buttons, if it's wrong, you die.
i like the story, i think it's hilarious. the animation sort of reminds me of courage the cowardly dog.
but holy cow, the reuse the same backgrounds over and over so many times, it's worse than hannah barbera.
Yeah I definitely agree with you, admittedly the very first time I played I had no idea what to do and the instruction manual didn't even explain much. I also refrain from admitting how long this game took to beat the first time. But coming from an age where every game was either a 3D platformer or sidescroller, this was very refreshing in terms of being interesting enough to watch the same thing over and over with trial and error. Love the hanna-barbera reference- I lol'd
They did the reuse of stage in dragons lair too but the lack of visual aid did make my play though of this take weeks
The Japanese version has arrow prompts. I wish the English version did too. Also subtitles would be great

It's because Fritz has no bran and the bad guy IS a brain.
Funboringness I think the brain was pissed off because Lance called him a average bad guy. So I think he decided to just kill him. And take his brain.
And seeing as fritz has no hands, yea...

Yeah it's the way the Saturn handles pre-rendered backgrounds, especially when they move like this. It is annoying isn't it?

Scott Kinoshita No clue. I'd love to see that, and the 3DO version, I'm sure the PC version is awesome, I'm just not too into the PC scene. I think they even re-made the whole thing for the iPad. Might be worth checking out

Yup exactly, the first time I ever played this I didn't understand that you don't really control Lance and I kept getting killed over and over. At 10 years old I was VERY confused!

Sure did. I managed to snag a manual too and put in some magazine clippings of ads for the game. Quite a distinct game, easy to learn and forget not to mention entertaining to other gamers.
Toomnyusernae Yeah I had to make a few practice runs and plan it out long before I hit the record button for the perfect run. I also avoided things I knew I'd screw up on, like the manicure scene with Vivi, the book worms in the library, and the chef gator. I also didn't want to have a bunch of beeps and boops on the audio haha
Haha I can relate. What's the point if you can't see it all right? Pretty novel game. I think I wrote a route map and all the solutions so I'd have less of a hassle the next time I played it. And you're right, beeps and boops do take some practice. It's funny how we can forget dying repeatedly just to pass a scene.

AJX-99 In my experience, the order that you do things isn't important, you need the two eyeballs from the witches. That opens the elevator to the final boss. Game logic right?

I'm 100% positive that I would have been out of breathe 3 minutes in, and I would have totally died immediately after.
+iHazGamezz Not to mention by getting your head removed by Fritz or getting brutally dissected by one of those spider freakoes.
I think the Dragon'sLair is a way better then this,because they show the direction and to attack ,or something,but this is a little dificulty to dodge on minigame stages(dodging as many attacks as possible)

Awesome! I tried to capture them all, when re-watching this I realized I didn't actually show Moose ripping Lance's butt off, but I showed the Yeti do it, so I guess that counts??
Ah, you mean the red-ish staircase? The exact same thing happens as the stairs to the right, so I guess my dumb-brain decided not to include it. My bad!
