  • Our R32 Swapped Mk2 Golf has pretty good bodywork, and paint - but is lurking some nasty secrets underneath. Some of which are important safety critical components. In this episode we replace the very rusty wishbones (control arms) and swap out the polybushes. But all does not go to plan... Did the captive nuts break off? Are they too far gone? What else did we find?

      I'm glad you found it helpful. Just remember to shock the rear wishbone bolt out and torque back up in increments. It's not a fun job, but worthwhile. What model is your Mk2?

    So much better, well worth the effort. It makes the subframe look like it needs attention now though 👀

      Thank you! Wasn't easy by any means, but glad it's done now! Have you had any fights like that before on Mk2s?

    I recon the mintness underneath of a car is just as important as the paintwork, I used to get annoyed watching wheeler dealers when they restored cars, i mean when they re spray them, gave them nice paint job, then you look underneath and see rust every where.

      @@golfmk2 Many moons ago I had the same trouble whilst poly-bushing the front end on mine, had to get a mate to cut and weld in the end, and went overboard in the poly department too 👍💯🔥😀👌

    • @golfmk2
      @golfmk2  7 місяців тому +1

      Ah no way. Well we thought we'd be getting to the stage of cutting, especially with that front wishbone bolt.
      How did you find having the whole lot polybushed? Having gone to the TT bushes I can't actually tell any difference, but then I'm not a seasoned track driver.

      @@golfmk2 I went too far, steering column poly transmits all road vibrations, I did not like it to begin with, but now I compare all cars feedback to MK2, it's like running your hands down the road. A 4-5hr journey to Cornwall left me almost crippled for a few hours( I am 6"4 though).

    • @golfmk2
      @golfmk2  7 місяців тому +1

      😂 yeah that sounds a bit extreme. Must have ended up with white finger through the vibrations through the wheel! I bet chucking it round some twisty roads or on track it felt incredible though. Just day to day would be tiresome.

      I very much agree! Nothing like being catfished into thinking a car is mint when it's knackered underneath. This was something that probably could have waited structurally, but they were so bad visually, and seeing that bolt, you have no idea how far that rust is eating into the subframe etc.

      @xXaurajXx 8 місяців тому +1

      Absolutely agree on this. I met a chap who went to view the Jensen Interceptor they "restored" He had one already and wanted another for his collection. He said it was absolutely rotten underneath and bodge job repairs not shown on screen. Underneath is just as important, if not more so than what you can see daily.

      @xXaurajXx absolutely, and with lunar miles on the clock, it's paramount to keep on top of underside maintenance, and nip things in the bud before any thing becomes a major issue.
