What a wonderful success story of environmental conservation. Thank you so much for sharing that. Greetings from the Great White North. Home of the brook trout.
Stunning colours at spawning time.! I'm in Hebrides and we do have char ( small ! ) here . Poor feeding..! I've caught one on fly in 9 years !! A depth with some kind of bait would probably catch more . Catch and Release of course!
I live in Maine, USA and we have about twelve lakes left with landlocked Artic Char. I am not sure if any of them migrate and spawn in the streams connected to those lakes. Cool to find them elsewhere!
According to the biologists, they spawn on gravel shoals here in maine. I'm not sure I agree, ive caught the most colorful fish in brooks, even had one spray milk
boy the part with the bridge, it looks just like canada where I'm from. They made a good call pushing back the conifer trees. that's how it is in these areas naturally. we have char and also several distinct mountain trout species that need cold, clean, and clear water the very same way. They usually only thrive in rough rivers with lots of rocks strewn about.
No longer a sad story - the efforts to clean up the river have brought the Char back! Very inspiring, and far more successful than efforts to re-introduce the Atlantic Salmon to inland rivers and streams here in New England, USA.
Hi, sorry for the delay I've been out filming in the Highlands. It was the Sony Z1 HDV camera in an Amphibico housing. Getting a bit out of date now, I need to update.
How evil of the original Forestry Commission to poison the river and block it with bridges, thus wiping out the Ice Age char population for the sake of a few trees that nobody wants.
there is a loch in wester ross, loch clair. The arctic char in this loch still travel to rivers to spawn
Great filming and project…big respect!

Gareth Browning should be awarded an MBE. If he does nothing else his is a life well lived.

Would they be related to American Brook Trout?
They are actually both char.
They are both members of the Char family

It wasn't evil. It was ignorant. Nowadays at least some of the staff are more enlightened
sadly it has been confirmed today the the char is now extinct in lough corrib and 4 other loughs in ireland.
Sorry to hear that :(
heartbreaking
Hey look it's charborg
