Hello and welcome again to another Flat Earth Friday where today we are taking a look at Flat Earth legend Jeran, and his spectacular misunderstanding of linear and angular velocity!
Let's take a deep dive into the brain of Jeranism...

“Math is not reality. It’s a lie.”
Proceeds to use math to “prove” his point
@Steve Did you really just say that? How do you think things are designed and made? Like your computer for example, it works purely on math.
To be fair he is stating that math is a made up things and that the math works in certain ways because it was designed to present those answers as factual. IE If you do this "math" it provides the "fake" result however he's implying and showing that the math is incredible and can't possibly be true. He's showing he understands the fake narrative that the math was designed to push forth, however hes trying to show the man behind the curtain and that the "math" isn't real.
that being said the guy is either a loony or a charaltan and the math is real and true and not fake or false. But his intention is pretty clear.
"Heres how they tell you this math works, but heres why the math doesn't actually tell you whats important" is closer to the message he's trying to tell in his insane flat earther way.
@@Lowlightt Try not to unpick flattard inanities. They won't appreciate the help, and you may even get attacked for your efforts.
Math is LITERALLY the universal language
Math is not a lie. İt's an observation standardized. Even aliens would know 1+1 equals 2 in macro world as long as it has senses comparable to us. They might express it differently but the concept is the same. Basic math is this concept and rest is expansion on this standard. They are still derived from logic and observation even though they are just conceptual and not natural.
I was on train the other day traveling at 100mph. I went to the toilet. I was amazed at the fact that I can walk at 105mph. Science eh?
Mind you, when you *really* need the toilet, walking at 105mph would be handy...
cumquatrct3 are you accusing me of lying? I was on a train and I did take a piss, at. 105mph, it’s the truth. The train did exist. There is some truth in your statement if you tried to catch a train near Manchester then the existence of a commuter train is something of a matter of faith.
Try JUMPING! You'll fly out the back of the train so fast, it will make your head spin! = Flat Earther logic. LOL
Or 95mph if you are going in the direction opposite of the train's path because math adds up really we- nah it doesn't, you f*cking 24-karat plonker. Relativity, man, relativity.

Turn on the ice cream machine at McDonald’s, and instead of you receiving ice cream, instead, you get exactly a 15 degree per hour drift.

He was so close to understanding... Then he saw a big number.
And that number was 0.26 ... which, in retrospect, fits perfectly with his apparent capability of understanding.
ooh look flying turtle.....

Also "intetesting" is the fact that at the 4:30 mark here he proves that you will not feel the speed of the Earth rotating at any latitude. (He expanded the merry-go-round to just 100 feet and the horse on the outside could "just barely" feel like it was moving)
I love how he uses a globe model to get all his distances, rather than using the formula.
Forest Fifer he should be using the flat earth map...oh wait, there isn’t one.

What I'm startled about is the fact, they always say they would feel the speed. Has no flat earther ever been in an elevator? Or a car. Or a train. Or a plane. Or any other fast moving object. Whether you would say (math) or (maths) depends on the country. USA is math, whereas UK is maths. Since its an abbreviation of mathematics i think maths makes more since, even though im American.
@smorris12 I disagree. I think he does have a firm grasp on math(s) but, like others, is choosing to capitalize on it. However, he obviously used the one that was more able to prove his point. Once again, flat eRfhh science: my conclusions determine the outcome of my experiments and observations and if they don't, they are wrong or I am in error.

@@TheSackese EXACTLY !!! AND NOT ALL OF US FLAT EARTHERS DRINK OUR OWN PEE !! SOME ASSHOLE JUST MADE THAT SHIT UP !!!
"That speed would make anyone fly off the earth, no doubt about it." Really? Then why didn't Jeran demonstrate the math behind that? I'm sure there's an equation that would tell you if and when rotational speed would be enough to overcome earth's gravity and send people flying off into space. If you had a wet tennis ball floating inside a room with no significant source of gravitic attraction, and you spun it at one revolution per 24 hour period, the water would remain stuck to the ball all the way around. But guess what? No flearthers EVER spin the ball at one revolution per day - they spin it at something like one revolution per 0.2 seconds, and of course the water goes flying! (can't really escape the earth's gravity, so a slow spinning ball wouldn't throw off the water, but would still drip)
Here's another thought experiment for Jeran and his ilk; pretend you have a merry-go-round with a diameter of about 10m, or about 32 feet. On the vertical surface of the very outside of the merry-go-round, there are some bacilli bacteria taking up residence. The size ratio between the bacteria and the merry-go-round are roughly equivalent to the ratio between a human and the earth. Now let's gradually spin it up to a speed that will assure us a rotational period of 24 hours. Once it arrives at its proper linear speed to meet the required rotational period, we'll let it spin for a day or two. After the time limit, we'll gradually slow it back down to a stop. Now we'll check to see if the bacilli are still living in the spot where we left them. (assuming we have a good way to mark them so we can find them again after spinning) Sure enough, those bacteria are still gonna be stuck on there.
Thing is Jeran, you fail to factor in the mass of the object - or person - as well as the force of gravity when you think you're "doing the math". When you omit vital parts of the calculation, you get what can only be useful as garbage can filler. At a certain point, an object with enough mass (compared to the mass of the earth and it's subsequent gravitic pull) WOULD fly off into space due to momentum overcoming the pull of gravity. If you just wanted to know how fast the earth would have to spin linearly to launch us human folk into the abyss, it would be about 17,000 MPH, or 28,000 KPH. Take note Jeran, this is about 17 times faster than we're spinning right now.
Science isn't wrong on this, math isn't fake, you're just a ninny looking for anything you can find to try to prop up this ridiculous flat earth conspiracy. And for what? So a handful of disgruntled imbeciles can kiss your ass on the internet? I sure don't see any of you with any kind of actual "plan of action" for this supposed cover-up. If you DO manage to get a majority of the people on your side, what then? Storm the government? Demand they change the textbooks - and all relevant fields of science and industry - to accommodate your "truth"? What does any of this accomplish? Can flat earth theory make even ONE accurate prediction about the reality of the earth that the globe model cannot? (not that I've ever seen) In fact, flearthers can't even seem to put together a coherent FE theory that they all agree on, aside from "earth not round, because smart people stupid".
You had your chance to excel and be knowledgeable in school and college, but you didn't. Instead you moped around grumbling about how the institutions are rigged to feed you bogus information, the government is lying about everything, and how all the people who spent ACTUAL time and ACTUAL effort studying are just sheep. Fuck off mate.
Why not write this under his video?
@@catonaplank3429 - Probably because he is blocked from commenting on @Jeranism's videos, just like I am.
the equation is mv^2/Radius
"No flearthers EVER spin the ball at one revolution per day - they spin it at something like one revolution per 0.2 seconds, and of course the water goes flying! (can't really escape the earth's gravity, so a slow spinning ball wouldn't throw off the water, but would still drip)"
I did a calculation out of interest of how much my gravitional pull towards the earth would change at the pole with 0 linear speed and then at the equator at maximum linear speed.
Linear speed at pole: 0 m/s; at equator: 436.3 m/s. Using the centrifugal/-pedal force equation, radius of 6371 km and my weight of 70kg, we can calculate that the force trying to fling/lift me off of the earth at equator is 2.36 Newtons... Now the force pulling me towards the earth is g*m -> 9.81 (m/s^2) * 70 kg -> 686 Newtons.
So we can quite safely say, that the earth is not gonna let me go anytime soon without a fight.
Damm
I love how math is valid when he thinks it's helping his case (of course he's too stupid to realize it's not). Calculate Earth's circumference using math and suddenly math stops working. Interesting.
but he did the maths properly, he got the results that he should have got. its just a shame that his interpretation of the results was batshit crazy.
@@kieranhardy660 That's nothing new for flat earthers. In rare cases where they don't bungle up the experiment and get correct results, they still come up with completely wrong conclusions. You can't be honest and flat earther at the same time.

He also just stops with his calculation at the point that gets interesting... all he would have to do is plug in the numbers and find out that even at the equator (where the centrifugal force is highest) it is only about 0.3% as strong as the gravitational force holding everything back... So no, you don't fly off into space because gravity is about 300 times stronger than the centrifugal force.... -.-
All it does is reducing the force thats pulling an average person of 75kg down from about 736N to about 733.5N... congrats, thats the equivalent of about 250g weight difference. So according to his logic people should fly into space whether they poop...

I have to agree with them: Math is not reality, and we don't live in a model. But, and it's a big BUT, what they fail to realize is that math can be used to measure all kids of aspects/dimensions of the reality in which we live in, and models can be used to test our understanding of reality.
If the model conforms with the predictions we can make about reality, and the measurements are also in line with the predictions, then I'd say that we have a pretty good understanding of reality.
This is something a flat earther will never be able to do, using their flat Earth model, which doesn't even exist, and/or using their flerf math (5/0 = 5 or 10^-17 is a negative number, a negative number is any number less than 1, and so on).

I get what you're saying, it would be nice for us to have a universal language, so we can understand each other without any ambiguity, but then we would have to say goodbye to poetry, because math, as a language, leaves nothing for interpretation. I would love his explanation of how someone can stand up in a bus travelling 70MPH or in a plane travelling 500MPH. By his theory, it should be impossible.
that's because a car and a plane are closed systems. I don't believe the earth is a closed system is it? I thought that space ships fly freely from earth to the vacuum of outer space without a problem so that would make the earth different than a car or a plane.
@@3cs3hs ok.... Go in the car doing 70, now open a window, its now an open system.
Space ships don't fly freely, just like cars don't travel at 70mph for free. There's tons of fuel burnt by spacecraft to get out of the grip of gravity.
But they too ARE a closed system, the environment inside differs from the one outside. Just because the outside environment changes as they leave, does not mean it's not a closed system. Like scuba diving - once you put the breathing apparatus on, it doesn't matter if you are in water or out, you're breathing from the closed system, the air tank. The environment around you can change from air to water, but you can still breathe.
So, one of my favorite things about the flat earth “debate” is that their arguments against globe earth only work if you take key points out of the model.
“Spinning at this velocity puts a constant upward force on everything standing on the edge of the planet” “How come water conforms to the surface?” “Why don’t we fly off the earth?” Gravity. To all three. “Without gravity, your arguments don’t work!”
Yeah, but at least we HAVE a working model...
_“Without gravity, your arguments don’t work!”_
Yes. Yes, indeed. That's what happens when you remove a crucial part of an explanation: they don't work anymore. That's part of how you tell a proper explanation from a false one.
Take a car for example. The reason a car moves on its own is because of its engine. "But if you remove the engine, the car doesn't work anymore!!11!" Yes ... that's basically what I just said. If instead you removed a mirror, the car would still run fine; which is how we know it's not an essential part of what makes a car go.

@SciManDan - You'll notice he just claims it's "insane", yet doesn't bring up the most salient and devastating observation.
You are on the Merry-go-round in his example. You are sitting at the one of the Non-Blue dot, on your horsey. Now, obviously, the Blue Dot horsey is moving faster, according to Jeranuerysm. But, if you are sitting on one of the "slower" moving dot horses, if they have different speeds....shouldn't one be moving away from the other? But you can sit there, rotating at ANY speed you like, and they never change position relative to one another. EVER.
THIS is why we use ROTATIONAL speeds for rotating objects, and linear speeds for objects that aren't rotating.
Centrifugal force has to equal centripetal force because otherwise the object would have an imbalance of forces, and the object would start spiraling inward or outward. The fact that he doesn't grasp (or deliberately ignores) this is very telling.
For orbiting objects, the Centripetal force IS gravity. So of course they have to be equal, or the object wouldn't stay in orbit.
Jism is completely clueless.....but we knew that. "Interesting...."

And there is no way that actual scientists are using mirrors placed on the moon by fake astronauts to lie about the moon moving away from us. Basic school boy physics. But too much for F E goats to grasp.
Absolutely. Rotational and linear speeds - two different tools for different situations.
Claiming otherwise is like claiming that screwdrivers can't work, because hammers exist.
CoolHardLogic shortened his name to "Jism".
Sure. But: In the sense the the centrifugal force (please no discussion about it being real) is non-zero we *do* feel that we are moving on a circular path. And if the rate of rotation magically changed we *would* feel a difference. So the question why we cannot feel the movement at whatever m/s is not as pointless as Dan makes it sound. Would you agree?
@@carstenbohme8813 - You don't "feel" motion unless there is a change in velocity (∆v, or Delta-V). It is the same as traveling in an automobile. You do not feel the motion unless the velocity changes.

From who?
Physicist here. Actually the flat earther does have a point. Travelling at constant angular velocity is not the same as travelling at constant linear velocity in terms of Newton's 1st law. If you live at the equator you are not travelling in a straight line, but your accelerate by about 0.03m/s^2 towards Earth's center. (The centripetal acceleration.) That would be enough to be barely noticable if it were not swamped by the gravitational acceleration that is 30 (Edit: 300, thx Jules) times stronger. Still, the sentrifugal effect at the equator is big enough that we tend to prefer to launch space rockets from sites closer to the equator instead of launching them from sites nearer to the poles. At an altitude of about 36 000 km, the sentripetal acceleration becomes equal to gravity, allowing satellites at that altitude to stay in orbit at the same position relative to the earth's surface (the so-called geostationary orbit). And beyond that altitude, anyone maintaining the same angular velocity would actually experience being pulled away from the earth.
Håkon Fløystad - Actually about 300 times stronger, not 30, but otherwise spot on.😀

That sentence was going so well ...
Brian: You beat me to the punch on that one. Every argument he makes about the flaws in a spinning earth are even more applicable to a revolving sun. By the way, you should put "it just does" in quotation marks. It would make your comment much easier to understand.
No its cause jesus
This is so ironic, because when he is driving his car he undoubtedly will demonstrate that he perfectly knows the mechanism he so opposes in this video. When he's doing - say - 80 mph and must make a turn into a side street he will slow down because he knows he can't do that with 80 mph, because he will spin out of control and end upside down.
But if he's on the highway and that ever so gently curves over the course of the next mile, he will happily keep on doing 80 mph, because he again knows there is no centrifugal force to speak of.
In other words: he intuitively KNOWS that no matter how fast you're moving, as long as the curve you're following is wide enough, you won't feel a thing. An that thus also goes for a speed of 1,000 mph and the curve of the earth.
Perhaps that's a better analogy to explain it to them. Not talk about linear an angular speed but about the width of the curve in relation to your speed.
Well, they should understand your reasoning, because so many of them seem to make their videos while driving around in their cars. But then again...
