Tears of the Kingdom 1.2.0 can feel a bit limiting and maybe you’re yearning for the days of old - where you had the YB Glider dupe and the MsgNotFound Master Sword. You CAN return to 1.0.0… but it requires you to be on a physical version, and delete all your data. Redownload all your games you may have downloaded, and you cannot get your old Tears of the Kingdom save back, so you’ll have to start anew. You’ll also lose every save for games that do not support cloud saves, such as Splatoon and the Pokemon series. If you’re still resolved to go back, go into your system settings and scroll all the way down until you hit format options. From there, you’ll want to go to Restore Factory Settings. Once you’ve done this, the switch will be as if you’ve never held it before. Now what you’ll want to do is make sure you don’t go online when you add your profile. You can link your Nintendo Account later - for now, go into the game as it is on 1.0. Now you’re free to do what you want on this older version!

@@traplunge Your accounts will be deleted off the switch, but can be added back afterwards. Just make sure that when you add them back, make sure automatic software backup on cloud saves is disabled so you don't automatically get yourself stuck on 1.2.0 again.
This is also why, unless you have Nintendo Switch Online cloud saves, you will lose all your saves. There is no way around that, unfortunately.

I'm livid cuz i haven't updated since the patch.. but I was just out of town for two days and I guess my power went out or something cuz my switch was totally dead when I got home. I guess It must have reset or something because I made sure to disconnect all my internet before I turned it back on. However, once I did it had already updated and I am so so mad lol

I scoured eBay for a first gen console and checked against the serial number to confirm that it was indeed completely unpatched so I could have my way with it. Indeed, the battery leaves a lot to be desired.

I have an old one too. I can play ToTK for all of about 2 hours from battery if I'm lucky. If I'm loading alot and in intense areas 1 and a half hours.

You absolutely can, I'm sorry for the people that did the process as shown in the video. I accidentally updated my game so I removed my cartridge and deleted the game and just put back the cartridge, my data was not deleted and I'm back on 1.0.0

@@Toohak disconnect your switch to your WiFi, the download still starts but never ends. Any time you launch your game you'll have to start the software despite the update

Can you go online if you turn off auto updates?
Once you've made a save and turned off auto-updates, you're okay to start restoring your switch back to normal, user account and everything. Just make sure not to download a ToTK cloud save if you had one.

same here, i downgraded to 1.1.1 with a funny little paperclip but if i wasn’t able to do that i think i would have just accepted the loss of glitches over losing all my hard work in not only totk but dozens of other games

@@tyopsie this is not intended to be a tutorial, just a demonstration of how easy it is with the right tools:
firstly, make sure you have a switch from before july 2018. there are methods for more recent ones but you need to be on specific updates i think. also, you can buy a proper jig instead of the paperclip and it’s likely a lot safer, but for the paperclip i cut off one of the loops, made about a 45° bend in both of the arms. then bent the loop in the opposite direction to make a handle - there are a decent amount of pictures on google for how it should look. the most important thing is that it should sit right up against the edges of the joycon rail so it touches pins 1 and 10. that way pressing power and volume + will get you into recovery mode and you can inject whatever payload you want. then i used tinfoil to delete the update file from totk, threw a backup i found of the 1.1.1 update onto my sd card, and installed that. it honestly took me longer to get the paperclip just right than it did to delete and install the updates
there’s a proper guide for this on gamebanana with a much better explanation. best part is, since you aren’t messing with any saves, or touching really anything on the system aside from deleting, it leaves no trace so you don’t have to worry about being banned. if you have any concerns just go on airplane mode for the entire process, then go back online after you’ve restarted back into stock firmware

You don't need to have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription active to relink your Nintendo account again. However, since you will not be able to use cloud saves, any eligible save that you can keep with cloud save backup would also be gone.
If you haven't already used the free trial, I recommend using that if you have any saves or uncertainties! Just remember that no matter what, you cannot downgrade *and* keep your save without modding your switch.

If anyone is still trying to do this, don’t download any cloud data save for ToTK that you already have as you will not be able to play the game without updating as that data was done on a newer version and you can’t delete it after that so you’ll end up doing the whole process again

If you have a modded switch or know someone who does, you may be able to get the saved data "downgraded" on their console. Otherwise, Nintendo has carefully prohibited you from doing this :(

this does not work because the game says you have to update the game before you can play with no bypass. then you are right back to 1.2.1 and you lost everything. so how do you get this to work?
Don't connect online until you make a new save after wiping.
Short explanation - the factory reset also wipes the system that tells the switch an update should exist.
I completed all of the shrines and now I’m bored with the game and I’m going back into it with dupes and glitches

I beat the game on 1.1.2 with 130 hours and 50% then reset back to 1.0.0 and am 100 hours in and 60% completion.ill update eventually

I just did this god I am a Totk drug addict I cant stop my self from playing this dame amazing game 1.2.0 sucked a** and watching a lot of the speedrunners have a good time doing the og glitches made me super jealous hope cloud save backed up my other games BOTW, SS and SMT V and nocturne and DQ 11 and since I did this please no totk dlc are this was all for nothing.
Luckily for me I just bought the game and I turned off auto updates so I’m set

Occasionally this works just as a new update is out for some inexplicable reason, but the way the Switch system works is that the update remains in its system memory in some capacity, almost as if seared into the system itself. The only way this can be taken away is if these remnants are taken out of system memory, and the only non-hacking way to do that is a system reset unfortunately.
This is good if you want a master sword that doesn't break

You won't lose anything in cloud-backed games. Anything cloud-backed can be restored after you've made a save in the new Tears of the Kingdom 1.0.0 version (as having a different save file will prevent the cloud save from auto-downloading), but you won't be able to get your old ToTK save file back because that would force the update to 1.2.0 to happen again. Make sure you turn off auto-update too!

i wanna go back to 1.1.1 that one had glitches you could also not do in 1.0.0. Also this for what i lose from going from 1.1.2 to 1.0.0 is just not worth it
I have 1.1.2 and haven't really bothered to dipe much after playing with it a bit. Alsp do note that 1.0 version isn't quite stable. It has a more unsteady framerate and was improved in the patch after. May be noticeable to some. I believe that patch was a day 1 patch for launch so only early players pr9bably experienced it or those who didn't update right away on physical.

if you have a year one switch and are willing to do a no no to it then you can go in and delete the update file as well as the flag saying that an update is required. shouldn’t be possible to get banned for this as it’s not piracy or cheating, but if you’re worried just stay on airplane mode for the whole process. after you’re done you can remove all the no no if you want and you’ll be back on 1.0.0 with no trace of any funny business. if you prefer 1.1.1 because 1.0.0 has its own problems you’ll have to hunt down the update data online and install that
I got a new switch cus i lost my last one. Absolutely devastated i lost all my pokemon and animal crossing data. I had so many shinies and legendaries and hundreds of hours in pokemon violet. Gone. Never to be gotten back unless i find my old switch which im pretty sure fell in a bag that got sent to the dump

@samrg7072 Doing this would require you to factory reset your switch which does delete literally everything from the last 6 years the switch has been released, yeah ^^ Some are still open to the idea.

Just use an old switch. Transfer all your data to said switch. Reset the switch then add your saved data on the other switch to the one you reset

I did the factory reseting but I clicked the “Restore Factory Settings Without Deleting Save Data”. And I turned off Auto-Update Software and turned on Airplane Mode. But, it gave me some stupid message that doesn’t have the start software button. How do I fix this please without losing data and without hacking?

Can’t you just erase remove the card and delete the game data from storage settings? Sure, you’ll probably lose your save (I haven’t tried it but I doubt it will let you play with new data on an old version), but surely the console won’t keep update data if you erase the game…
You'd be surprised! The Switch holds a database of every software's "newest version" in its ticket system. The ticket system only gets wiped when the console is formatted/initialized, so the only way to completely get rid of the update in full is to go through that.
They really wanted to lock it down as much as possible.
So glad i went in offline mode, turned OFF automatic updates and never updated my game.

If I have all my data saved on a micro sd card remove it from my switch and then do this will I still have everything from my other games, after I put my micro sd card back in ?
Good question, but no, that doesn't work. The reason being that the switch, once formatted, assigns a new ID. Your Save Data is locked to this ID on the SD Card, and even if you're using the same nintendo account, the internal ID on your switch will still be different. (The full explanation is a lot more difficult but this is the gist of it)

It will happen if your close the software. I was in airplane mode, auto update of I was always chosing start game and it installed it even though I chose start game. I'm pissed but have 200 hours in this game already.

Ok so i have a switch lite and OLED the lite one was my first switch but then when i got the OLED made the OLED switch my main and i have all my games and progress in my OLED (And some data in my lite) but the question is can i transfer all my OLED data to my lite? and then do the reset? is it possible to do that? if so then what am i gonna lose? like Mii's or data or idk what?

Why not go online?
If you go online, you might end up accidentally auto-downloading a cloud save. If you do, the cloud save will prevent the game from loading on 1.0.0. you *must* make a save first on 1.0.0 and make sure auto-update is turned off. Then you can go back online :)

Breath of the Wild would be deleted but can be backed up normally using the cloud save feature with no strings attached.
