    he actually wrote a true novella recently! "Straight" is a pretty interesting story about a group of queer individuals who try to take refuge in the middle of nowhere to avoid year 3 of a weird happening where for 12 hours all the cisgender straight people become murderous zombies. it touches on themes of found family, allyship, lateral hostility (lgbtq+ people who express hate/disgust for other lgbtq+ people), and the limits of pacifism. and like you mentioned earlier, there's a surprising amount of coherent worldbuilding to it! the book layout's a little weird, and there are more than a few proofreading errors, but overall i found it to be an insightful read that seems like to was very personal, if a little wish-fulfillment-y, to dr tingle. it proves love regardless
    edited to add: it also doesnt have any sex in it. it's a story about friends and survival, and it takes to those themes well

    • @Derxe123
      @Derxe123 2 роки тому +96

      @@danialyousaf6456 That's not what lateral hostility is, I'm pretty sure. Lateral hostility is essentially like punching sideways instead of punching down. You can't reach the people in power so you hit the easiest target which is unfortunately the guy beside you. Trans people decide that "Transtrenders" are the reason people are transphobic. Gay men decide it's the 'stereotypical gay' making them 'look bad' etc. It's easier to deal with a problem like "These immigrants coming and taking our jobs" than realizing we live in a system made to use and abuse us and it's a systemic issue not the new people with a different accent. (if I'm wrong somebody lemme know plz)
      *Edit. RIP my ADHD brain. Forgot to say the point is I think lateral hostility is more like transference rather than 'regular' bigotry. Trans medicalist folk end up being bigoted bc they transfer the pain of the way they're treated onto other trans people. It's like a trapped animal gnawing off its own limb. They only hurt themselves but they still do it even tho they'll never be 'good enough' for transphobes. It's really sad. A sort of withered cornered bigotry that's tragic because it's like watching somebody who internalized self hatred so deeply they're spreading it around all while hurting themselves in a perverted attempt at self defense.

Part of it also is defence of the self image, as seeing someone who is similar but different and stands out for it might make you feel self conscious, especially if their conceptualisation of what makes you both such a person is different than your own ideas about how it works. And that, defence of the ego, is extremely irrational but very core to us as humans.

    Chuck Tingle is one of my personal heroes. A bunch of reactionaries (I thank they called themselves the Sad Puppies, which is ironic) voted some of his books for the Hugo Award in protest of LGBT and POC authors that were being nominated. But it ended up blowing up in their face because Chuck used this platform to speak for LGBT and POC. I don't get awestruck much, but I'm pretty sure I'd be speechless if I ever met Mr. Tingle. God bless you, you beautiful bastard.
    Also his titles are the Western equivalent of Isekai titles. Not sure why I put it here, i guess throwing that into me legitimately talking about my intense respect for him as a human being would be weird.
    EDIT: Just realized Dom mentioned it. Ignore me and my dumbass

    • @williamhare4456
      @williamhare4456 Рік тому

      You do know the Puppies nearly ended the Hugo Awards.
      The real story is. The Sad Puppies were created to break the effective monopoly that the big publishers like Tor books had on the Hugo awards. They wanted to stop seeing all the nominations go to stories that were published by the big publishers. The ball really got rolling after the Sad Puppies managed to get a Native American video game designer and part time Author from small publisher a nomination he didn’t want. The Dragon con staff and a conspiracy of political activists they aligned with harassed the author for receiving the nomination and gloating at him for failing to win. The harassment was ignored until they accused him of gaming the system to get the nomination a slap in the face of his profession for designing and cheating game systems. He usurped the Sad Puppies and created the Rapid Puppies. With their gay members leading the tip of spear and backed by the author’s friends the Evil legion of Evil and using the same tactics as the activists. (driving the leaders of the Sad puppies to quit in disgust ending the Sad Puppies) They ran amok for two years (nominating Space Raptor Butt Invasion was to show how effective they manipulated the system) and on the third year they nearly ended Dragon con using the most destructive weapon they had.
      They simply stopped.
      Than just watched as the convention was almost cancelled as the activists attacked each other in their religious rage over the misgendering of a single author on a pamphlet. It was also the same year that new rules were implemented to stop them and broke the near monopoly of the big publishers. Leading to the disbanding of the Rabid Puppies.
      With their goals achieved and they enjoy their victory.
