      If you keep going over books without movies, I wonder if you will go over more conservatives propaganda books. Like the one written by Ben Shappiro. its always interesting to see more progressive people's views on them.
      Another crazy book is Trigger Warning where a "traditional man" has to save a college full of modern liberals from a terrorist attack.

      @@izimmzskizzmz I'd suggest starting off with either short stories or poems. when i was 14 i was already trying to write a novel and that was a mistake, im trying to write 2 right now, but im writing either 1 poem or a couple of poems a week. Just pick a subject you feel passionate about, and start writing and see what you come up with, and build up from there, that would be my advice.

    Ya know, this has a very distinct domestic horror vibe. A widow, not yet ready to move on, pushed towards a mysterious man who seems to win over her family instantly, everyone playing on her love for her daughter to strong arm her into "moving on" from her dead husband when she's not ready and noone knows anything about this new man who acts so strangely and abruptly leaves for hours at a time without warning...
    Just saying, the vibe is there, it just needs a twist ending and boom, domestic horror.

    If I had to genuinely guess, my hypothesis would be that Liberty Adams doesn't exist at all. The VAST differences between the content, style and writing competence of the first and second books suggest to me that they were probably ghost-written to-order by some kind of online author mill and each book had a different ghost writer. Someone (or a group of someones) saw the open market for "MAGA Romance" and decided to cash in on it, but were too lazy to write anything themselves, so paid other people to write some books on the general theme and invented the "Liberty Adams" identity to sell them under. The reason that we see so much variance in, for example, the amount of the book dedicated to right wing propoganda vs the actual romance is because we are seeing different paid-by-the-word ghostwriters' interpretations on the brief "write me a MAGA themed romance novel in X-thousand words".

      Exactly, you don't even need kids to be a family. Sometimes a family is two people, usually living in a romantic relationship. Sometimes its multiple people living in a romantic relationship. (As long all consent no issues. I do have issue if only one has the ultimate choice. That sister wives comes to mind as an example. He can date and "marry" multiple women, but they can only date/"marry" him.) Sometimes it's close friends' who know they have each other's backs and support each other. Sometimes the best family is the one you create yourself but have no blood ties too. A family is created; not given. Sometimes we get lucky with blood relations but even then, you gotta create those bonds.

I point you to JustPearlyThings, Mikaila Peterson, Blaire White, Candice Owens, JK Rowling, etc, etc. Women are just as capable of perpetuating patriarchy and misogyny. If anything, the existence of such women is integral to the maintenance of patriarchy. If all women agreed that things were shit, we probably would have made a lot more progress by now. That some percentage of women not only go along with it but actively maintain it helps sell the narrative that everything is fine just the way it is.

    I've seen enough examples of people who discriminate against their own minority to know that women can be just as sexist against their gender as conservative men, but Liberty's books still make me feel like she's not who she advertises herself as. And this book, as well as your theory about it being an earlier work reinforces my belief that Liberty's husband has had a heavy hand in her writing.
    This book sounds like something a woman could write, a fantasy about a single mother meeting a man to sweep her off her feet, with the author's personal beliefs and world view colouring everything and glib remarks. But the first book sounds like Liberty's husband took a very vested interest in helping her write it, more interested in pushing the personal beliefs than the romance, or had a hand in writing it himself but using the female-presenting liberty as the sole penname.

Etc.

    Its at least better then ladies first because this one doesn't feel like Liberty is trying too hard to prove her delusions as correct but wanted to make a legit romance novel with all the MAGA stuff feeling more forced then anything. Its like she realized too late into writing it that it doesn't conform to her brand so instead just put it in random parts like the cruise and thanksgiving conversation.

Not only is it a great way to fight transphobia (however unintentional), my experience with the romance community suggests that Liberty being who she says she is, simply using a pen name for anonymity, is not outside the realm of possibility. I mean, when there are authors like EL James, Anna Todd, and Jamie McGuire (she’s also a MAGA author), with works rife with internalized misogyny, Liberty has good company.

    about the songs playing in the background, I feel like often less experienced writers (or any sort of artists, I'm totally guilty of doing this when I made music) will use aspects of more established writers' work, for example Irvine Welsh VERY often includes the music playing in the background, but there it makes sense, it has a lot to do with the characters, the time period, the subculture etc, or GRRM often describes clothing in great detail and I remember a book I worked on once, it was a kind of fantasy-action-erotica deal (very entertaining and a bast to translate) did the same thing, but when they ended up doing it in an intense fight scene, it came off as odd, I totally get the urge to do the thing our favorite authors do, to utilize these elements, but it takes practice to know when to get it right.

    • @b.parker1740
      @b.parker1740 8 місяців тому +3

      I also really wouldn't be surprised if the songs in question for this particular book were selected for, for a lack of a better term, virtue signaling to the audience type reasons (i.e., how right wing media in America recently tried to prop up those songs about small towns {or so Jason Aldean said, with certain images in the music video and contempt for protesters on display in the lyrics} or the one lambasting food stamps under the guise of working class vs. rich men values). There's also a few songs that people in a certain adjacent conspiracy group have declared anthems, so I'm sure the songs listed in the novel probably link back to those types of things (which I can't blame Dom for not picking up on if so, American culture war stuff like that is pretty exhausting for people on the outside).
      Edit: I guess dogwhistle or Tara Mooknee's Vice-Signal would also work, but whatever.
