Well =(. Calling it the Byzantine empire is not good my friend. I mean, i know a lot of ppl call it like this, but i think this term should be erased from the books

We can simply call it the Medieval Roman Empire or the Roman Empire of the Dominate Period if we want to both be precise and distinct it from the Ancient Roman Empire and the Principate Roman Empire (the Principate and Dominate refer to the nature of power the Roman Emperor had). The truest name to call it is either Roman Empire or better an simpler the Roman State. I believe that even calling it the Eastern Roman Empire after 476 AD is wrong, as it politically ceased to exist after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, when the Eastern Roman Emperor received the Western Imperial Regalia by Odoacer. But true, calling it as the Byzantine Empire (from the old name of New Rome, Byzantium) makes as much sense as terming the Ancient Roman Empire as the Pallantine Empire (by the old name of Old Rome, Pallantium).

@@paulmayson3129 Yeah this is what i ment =) I TOALLY agree with all of what you said, and i might add that i also heard the name "Late Roman Empire" who also can fit but yeah i also believe that calling it the Eastern Roman empire is wrong after the fall of the west and even before, i mean when you have Only Valentinian I as emperor or only Constantius II/Julian/Jovian as emperors, you cant really call east or west since there is only oen ruler =). But yeah you totally say what i wanted to say

The name "Late Roman Empire" is also fine, however I think it better applies for the period post 1204, as it would be silly to call 1123 years since the foundation of New Rome (Constantinople) as "later''.

@@paulmayson3129 Haha you are right on this =) Its like ppl telling the roman empire is in Declin from the end of the 1st Century like "duh 14 centuries of decline" =p

I read lord John Norwich 3 books on Byzantium: the rise and fall, absolutely fantastic read and looking forward to all your videos on it as well, only seen 2 of them but very happy

Although not a scholarly series, (and he does make mistakes and tot out now out-of-date analysis) is a great read and a must for anyone interested in the history the empire. The thing i like the most at Norwich is his prose and his own personal analysis and speculations. Not only is he telling you the history but making you think about the many facets of it too.

3DWaffles no, no majority of people in the world know of the Roman Empire which fell in476, when the last Roman emperor was killed. Not to many know of the eastern half of the empire which survived and was founded by Constantine the great in331. Which comprises Greece the Balkans modern day turkey, Syria Palestine and Egypt and Libya. And that lasted till1453
