As much as I love this format and am thankful for this video. I would urge you do not play your subscribers and instead challenge randoms please hear me out. Your subscribers know who you are and they know you're an IM, This means they are more susceptible to feeling nervous as they're being watched and they're playing a high rated player, This means a higher chance of blunders and there is even a chance that someone has made a smurf account just to play you. This creates an unrealistic scenario for a normal person trying to go up the ladder and does not simulate the games we will be playing very accurately. I am not saying that the way you've set this up is completely unreliable but it does add that barrier if you're trying to simulate a true climbing the rating ladder video. Now whether you continue to play with this format of vsing Subscribers or fans I will continue to watch nonetheless. But I know that I need to take into account everything I've mentioned and so do your audience watching this on UA-cam.
It's a bit less ethical to force random 700+ ELO players on ladder to get paired up vs an IM for UA-cam content. Granted, it is educational and only one game for the opponent, but still. This format vs subs has been highly educational as it is, and as a gamer that's dealt with the frustration of facing smurfs on ladders, I appreciate this format.

I live this series. A lot of beginner videos can feel like an opening memorization series. The fact you're only using e4 openings makes it clearer what the tactics are.
He seems a bit out of touch with the concept of being a beginner/not proficient in something. His comments imply that the bad moves stem from some weird plan or understanding even though it's just a lack of understanding. Most bad moves beginners play are just random guesses due to ignorance. That being said he's a great teacher and I don't mind some banter, it's not difficult to understand why people find him arrogant though.
I found your instructions very easy to follow. I learn something or the other every time I watch your video. This is good because even after playing many games and repeating the same mistakes I don't seem to learn anything from my own game. I guess that is the reason studying chess has its advantages. At different stages of our journey different things help. I used to think that maybe just playing is the best way to learn, but found out this is untrue. If we study theory it has its benefits, if we solve puzzles it has different benefits, if we learn endgame with limited pieces it has different benefits, and so on. Your instructive videos the one with London System opening and this one with e4 has helped to start my game correctly without doing any drastic mistake and get into the middle game. Nowadays I actually feel like I am playing and using something I learnt. Before I used to feel like I am only moving pieces. Thanks for your free content. I support you with what I am capable of.
If you want someone to help you break the 1500 threshold, my lichess handle is Cujini, in 100 games with me, you will improve, and learn some natural theory fairly quickly.

@@xordid Yeah I get that, but they'll only play a single game and lose what 7-9 elo? Chess.com will probably return the points to the accounts as they know that Levy is doing this series anyway.
@@xordid He didn’t force anybody. They signed up for the game.
I like how Levy takes these videos seriously but when he’s with other streamers he is really funny. Your videos on chess are easily my favorite on UA-cam
If you call a move weird, it shouldn't be called arrogant. It's called saying what's on your mind.
50:03 ...After 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 Nf6 4.dxe5 Nxe4 5.Bc4 Bc5, rather than playing 6.Qd5, I like 6.Bxf7+ Kxf7 7.Qd5+ Kf8 8. Qxe4 for White. Thank you for all your uploads- Good times!
You have a really good voice for talking and are articulate enough to actually do it well and of course your good a chess.
I live this series. A lot of beginner videos can feel like an opening memorization series. The fact you're only using e4 openings makes it clearer what the tactics are.
You: **Looks at other screen to manage streamer queue and read streamer chat**
Random guy on UA-cam: YOU MUST BE CHEATING >:(
Breaking news: International Master has been cheating all along, is a confirmed cyborg.
Chess noob here, it's good to see someone on my level teaching me these amazing skillz. More power to you, sir.
lol, you're not arrogant bro. You're confident.
@@IchigoNote well said
I found your instructions very easy to follow.
You’re the chess brother i never had
"He's not weird, he's creative" 🤣. Take that irony, baby
Levy looks like Mr. Robot retired from hacking and started playing chess
i have learned so much from you in the last month or so, 800 to 1200 rated. thank you for all of these videos!
This is so informative and relevant to actuall games, Theory does not help us much in 800
If you want someone to help you break the 1500 threshold, my lichess handle is Cujini, in 100 games with me, you will improve, and learn some natural theory fairly quickly.
I absolutely love this guy’s chat. Makes complex stuff sound understandable and achievable to us donuts 👍
"I'm not going to teleport Rook f1 to f4". Not with THAT attitude.
I *love* this series of videos, how can there be haters? Do you know how hard it is to find annotated master vs. amateur games? Showing how to punish inaccurate play is an invaluable lesson. Please continue this series, and keep doing more! IM Levy is both entertaining and instructive, keep it up!
Very looking forward to this, I've been playing the Vienna Game because of your videos, I love the Vienna Gambit too, always seems to catch people out
bro don't listen to the comments, don't change your way of being. you are super cool and you dont need to listen to some youtube haters that probably are like that because they did nothing with their life. love you man
52:49 That was beautiful!
GG YO!
Ah. Back with Gotham was actually informative.
Suggestion-when you introduce player's ranking(i.e.800), ask the source as well. Example: Richard King(900--FIDE). Suzy Parker(1000-USCF), Juan Perez(1250-chess.com). Any source(organization, site/app). It will help explain the various performances in the videos.
It's 2021 and you passed the one million subscribers milestone. Levi of the past would be very proud of you
That person who called you arrogant is talking BS, B FLIPPING S, levy...
"It's main line theory, Levy!" LMAO that was hilarious
Now do a bongcloud walkthrough 800-3000
Legendary Levy is back with another one. Disregard the haters lad you're one of the few people keeping this game interesting yet educational
Fischer already did a rating climb with only 1.e4
Who?
Google Isevil never heard about Bobby Fischer?
@@Juzam777 is he some up and coming youtuber?
TTate he played some games on the youtube of 20th century which was called « TV »
the greatest climb of all time
12:51, couldn't laugh enough! Hahahaha! You're so much fun, Levy! Keep up the good work ❤️
Best by test, nice pseudo (from a certain Bobby F.)
The idea of separate the video by the opening of the game is just perfect. Great work Levy.
You make it look too easy... i am getting better from these videos but im no prodigy and progression is a little slow. But if it wasnt hard then everybody would be a good chess player so im just gonna keep improving ✊
Being an IM helps :p
Incredible series. I watched your e4 video, then this, then won 10-12 games to bring me back up close to my highest ever rank. "You can win a lot of games if you are aggressive" is true.
thank you, i was bored of watching gothamguide again and again. i love you despite your politics levy.
what politics?
@@andimuhammad1241 He believes in some socialist values, and for some people that makes him spawn of satan. But mostly they don't know what socialism actually is, completely seperate from wether I agree with him or not.
@@lynxerax7011 I've fled from a socialist country to florida. so yeah i know what socialism actually is. I'm happy of the freedoms i get in the usa.
I don't care what anyone else says. You and James Canty are the best chess teachers on UA-cam.
'I was called the most arrogant chess player ever on youtube' haha great call! But that's what makes Levy so entertaining.
Thanks for the video Levy
Doesn't matter if you are or aren't arrogant. You are beautiful by just helping us plebs.
Now we want the d4 series!
Im confused. cant you stop the mate at 58:20 with bishop d6 and rook takes on e6? You loose a lot of material but it seems stoppable
Awesome man. Been watching this and climbing 100 rating in one day meanwhile. Took me weeks to get to 600, and now 700. Thanks for sharing
Im afraid to that day when Im watching your videos and joking about your oponents mistakes and then realize that your opponent was me.
"Of course I know him. He's me"
I’ve just recently found you and I know you said your next tournament is your last for awhile but I hope you wreck shit. You seem like a great content creator and I basically am starting from the point of only knowing how the pieces move and yet suddenly chess has become very interesting to watch to me and so I have started learning.
46:32
I havent laughed this hard ever before😂😂
Just found your channel , i downloaded all your videos and listening it at work in my forklift truck haha :-) Good Job
Aside from the fact that you’re a god at chess I think your personality really is what is driving your success, keep it up man love watching your stuff
I love these videos; as a beginner I really appreciate that you point out everything and explain every move with detail and your reasoning, very educational
2000+ players: pawn e4
Also 2000+ players: So this is basically winning.
Exactly what I was searching for..... I truly wish I could like it a hundred more times..... Just discovered you.... Thanks for the video🙏🏼
Top 3 chess non-tutorial content:
1. Rating climbs with descriptive commentary
2. Blitz game marathons with descriptive commentary (a good speed to actually have a grasp on what's happening while not being so slow I fall asleep)
3. Sub wars (reactions alone are worth, even better when you break down what they're doing wrong)
I recently started playing chess, and your videos have been fantastic. It's really nice to hear the thought process of an IM and application of fundamentals even when the opponent does something odd
I've gotten better just watching you play, and listening to your thoughts on the game is priceless. Thanks for these videos
